The staring contest went on "Jade! You still there" she snapped out and brought the phone to her ear "yeah, someone...opened the door" she replied half heartedly as the scene on the plane replayed in her mind. "Okay, that's my friend Ryan." Jade nodded before remembering her brother couldn't see her "I see" The rude hot specimen she just discovered was called Ryan moved out of the way, "what a small world!" She thought to herself sarcastically. He left the door wide open for her without uttering a word. "I'll call you back after settling in" she said and hung the call, dragging her suitcases in, one after the other. Ryan didn't offer to help her, he gave her space instead.
By the time she was done, she saw Ryan standing in the kitchen. Making himself comfortable with a cup of coffee "why is he so comfortable? I definitely don't like comfortable Ryan......Ryan ..... Ryan" she repeated the name in her head as she tried to ignore his presence. Once all her bags were in the living room, she closed the door and breathed tiredly, rubbing her forehead.
That was when she felt someone staring at her, Jade almost couldn't believe it "Ryan was staring at her!" Deciding to meet his gaze, she saw him walking to her. And he was no longer staring at her, as soon as he stood before her, his piercing green eyes stared straight into her brown ones. And instantly Jade became breathless, her chest was beating so fast but she tried to bring up a tough front "is he going to talk about what happened on the plane?"
Ready to defend her actions, she stepped back a bit in order to be able to match his gaze since he was more than six inches taller than she was and she didn't want to be intimidated. She saw his brow quirk probably at her action and then he raised his hand "Here's the apartment key" he speaks! Jade thought sarcastically as she heard his flat magnetic voice.
Only if there was a bit of life in that voice, she thought to herself again. Ever since meeting "Ryan", she noticed she had been speaking more to herself. She raised her hand to receive the key, she definitely can't leave things awkward like this. He was her brother's friend and she was bound to meet him more frequently than she'd wish. Or maybe she was looking forward to meeting him......often? She thought and couldn't help blushing.
He was already about to walk out the door when she spoke up "Ryan!" He stopped. Surprised by the way she blurted out his name she froze and cringed at the low tone she used, she prayed fervently in her head that he won't find her tone weird. And then he turned his head to face her with his face still as calm as it was, waiting for her to talk.
"Uhmmm, I know we didn't get off on the right foot.........so maybe we can do this again" she managed to form out the words. "Do what again?" He asked calmly, now fully turning to face her. "Getting off on the right foot?" She added and waited for his reply with held breath. "Okay" he said after a few seconds and walked out without another words and the door was closed with a clicking sound.
Jade sighed and rolled her eyes as she turned to properly explore the apartment, she actually just noticed how beautiful the living room was, all her thoughts were occupied with the hot male specimen that was in the room with her. Suddenly she chuckled "I can't believe I was acting like a f*****g teenager with him, he won't be the first hot guy I'd see" she mumbled out trying to make herself see reasoning. "Get your acts together Jade Becker" she chided herself just like her mom would do.
Bringing her focus back to the room, she couldn't help being amazed by her brother's taste. It was not grand or extravagant, but it offers a retreat from the outside world, providing a cozy sanctuary to come home to. It is a cozy haven that radiates warmth and charm. The living space adorned with soft earthy tones and subtle decor. The walls are painted in a serene shade of off-white, creating a peaceful atmosphere. She was definitely in love with the place already, she had to admit it felt as comfy as her home in New Jersey.
There was a plush sofa, perfect for lounging and unwinding after a long day. Jade could imagine coming back home after a day's work and sinking in the sofa to relax, with a warm cup of coffee on the coffee table nearby. The room is illuminated by gentle, warm lighting that fills the space with a soft, comforting glow. Adjacent to the living area, a petite dining nook provides a quaint spot to enjoy meals. A small, round table with two chairs is set against a window, offering views of the outdoor and allowing natural light to filter into the space.
The kitchen, although compact, is equipped with all the essentials. Clean, white cabinets line the walls, and a small countertop offers space for meal preparation. The kitchen is complete with a stovetop, refrigerator, and a compact dishwasher, making it functional and efficient. Jade had a guess about the contents of the refrigerator and she opened it to confirm and she was definitely right. The refrigerator contained an empty gallon of milk, burger bread and ..... nothing. He was still a pathetic bachelor, she thought and shook he head.
Jade walked into the bedrooms and was definitely not disappointed with the design. She picked the bedroom that was empty and sank on the wide bed adorned with crisp, white linens. A wooden bedside table sits on each side of the bed, providing a convenient place for personal belongings or a bedside lamp. Soft, flowing curtains frame the windows, allowing just the right amount of daylight to gently wake you up in the morning. She was definitely satisfied. Jade fell asleep almost immediately after falling on the bed, and she slept for a while until her phone rang, disrupting her perfect rest.
