CHAPTER 1
"Your mom defended your sorry ass until she passed away. Here you go again, tarnishing the family's legacy. I wish she was alive to see how you rubbed her name in the mud. You're such a disgrace to this family. You should be ashamed of yourself." Wellington yelled at Jane and further humiliated her.
"I apologize for causing you pain, Dad. It wasn't my intention. I did it for Love. I…"
“Shut the f**k up. What the f**k do you know about Love?.” Wellington sharply cuts in and landed a slap on her chin.
"Wake up and smell the coffee, Jane. Don't you get it? Jack doesn't give a f**k about you. He is a mother f*****g jerk. What can he possibly offer you? He's too poor! He can't even take care of you. Quit that relationship while you still can," Wellington charged his daughter but she waved it off. No matter how hard he tried to convince Jane, her mind was made up already. Is it Jack or no one? She lives and breathes for Love. Not even her father or anyone could convince her to quit the relationship. Wellington's hate for the poor all started when he paid for the surgery for his old staff. It turned out it was a scam. Since then, Wellington has sworn never to have anything to do with the poor. Now seeing his daughter falling in love with one pierced his heart like a dagger. Not only did she defile his orders by falling for Jack, but she also dropped out of school to ensure Jack completed his education.
"What has Jack ever done to deserve such treatment from you? He's a cool dude. All he ever wanted was to seek your approval for our relationship," Jane made a U-turn and defended Jack in front of her father.
"This isn't the daughter I raised. What have you done? You dare defend that son of a b***h? Where's my daughter? What have they done to Jane? Please wake up," Wellington screamed and tossed Jane's body to be certain his daughter hadn't been replaced with another body.
"Let go of me, Dad. I'm not insane. Of course, I'm in my right senses. Let's make this work. Please, Dad," Jane pleaded, placing both knees on the ground. She gripped her father's legs firmly and wouldn't let go. Seeking his blessings on her relationship, Jane wept inconsolably and faced the ground in fright, playing the victim card. She lacked the impetus to look at him straight in his eyes.
This wasn't the first time Jane would be risking it all for Jack. A few years ago, she reportedly forged her father's signature and swindled away $20k from his bank account. It turned out Jack needed the money to sort out school. It took her father days to discover about it and when he did, he locked Jack up for conspiracy, but of course, Jane was blinded by love and threatened to end her life if her father refused to drop all charges against Jack. Wellington had no choice but to drop all charges. He wouldn't risk losing his precious daughter for Jack's sake.
Wellington wants Jane to graduate from law school and become one of the biggest lawyers in that country. He's super connected to top men in the law firm that would guarantee her immediate employment with ease. He had already told his friends Jane would be graduating from school today.
.
“Get up, Jane. It breaks my heart to see you cry. You brought this upon yourself. I warned you to stay off him, but you refused. Now see the shame and disgrace you've caused this family. What will I tell my friends, or business associates? That my gullible daughter forfeited her education for Love?” Still upset about what she did, Wellington strives to embrace Jane.
"Dad, I know I wronged you. But trust me, I can fix this. I can still go back to school, do a part-time or something. Please, forgive me. My heart is troubled,”
"I want you to stop seeing Jack,” Wellington commanded.
"Are you serious right now?” Jane exclaimed in shock. She never expected that from her father.
"You heard me. I don't care how much you love him, what I do care about is securing a better future for you. With Jack, get ready to embrace poverty. I've got diverse connections needed to secure you a good job. Call Jack this minute and quit the relationship, then your future is secured." Wellington uttered as he shuffled to his bar and took a shot of vodka. That was the most difficult challenge of Jane's life. She was stuck in the middle of making a decision. She never imagined a day like this, when she gets to choose between her father and relationship.
"Is there another way? This is too much for me to handle." Jane questioned.
"Don't you dare question my orders? I'm not asking you, I'm simply telling you. Call off the damn relationship, or I'm gonna cut all ties with you. The moment you walk out of that door, you cease to become my daughter." Wellington threatened and invited more fear in her mind. For 10 minutes, Jane was dumbstruck, still thinking about the proposal. Jack has always been her first love. He might be poor, but his simplicity is unmatched. An Angel sent to wipe her tears after countless failed relationships. Getting into another relationship with a total stranger appears the most difficult task of her life. In Jack, Jane found true love, companionship, and a best friend.
"I've made my decision, Dad. I'll pick Jack a thousand times. My love for him is priceless; can't be traded for gold or diamond,” Jane made the ridiculous decision that stunned her father.
"Are you sure about this? Tell me this is a prank." Wellington trembled.
"No, Dad. I've made my decision and I hope you'll respect that,” Jane reaffirmed with confidence.
"Then consider it done. From this moment, you cease to be my daughter. I'll order the confiscation of your properties and bank accounts. They're only entitled to my flesh and blood. Good luck with your pathetic new life, loser.” Regretfully in anguish, Wellington declared and disowned his only daughter.
