The Last One

Mate

Axel's POV

    When the fireworks started my wolf said the one word I was craving for: mate. Everything started to make sense. Why I couldn't get Lilah out of my senses and whenever she was close I wanted to be near her. Her scent was driving me crazy and she was just three feet away from me. With her back at me and her gaze at the fireworks.

    "Happy Birthday Axel", she whispered still watching through the window. 

    I couldn't help but stare at her figure. She was looking at the fireworks like she has never seen it before. 

    "They are beautiful", she said still memerised by them. 

    In less than seconds I was by her side and stared at her conteplating all of her beauty and replied still looking at her, "Yes they are".

    She looked at me and gave me a soft smile. Her smile melted my heart. I wanted to kiss her so badly there and then. While I was fighting myself whether mark her and make her reach cloud nine, she widened her eyes realizing something I couldn't figure out. 

    "f**k", she mutered and made her way to the door. 

    "Where are you going my mate?", I asked grabing her wrist. The sparks on my skin felt like heaven and I didn't wanted to let her go.

    "He said before midnight. If I don't leave now I'll be grounded for who knows how long", she said and then gave me a confused look.

    "Mate? Did you just say mate?", she asked me amused. I nodded in response and she all of a sudden was pale. 

Lilah's POV

    I felt sick. Not by the fact that he was calling me his mate but because I couldn't feel the mate bond and I knew why. I haven't turn twenty one, which was the age for lycans to find their mate. I was an hybrid between a werewolf and a lycan and he could feel the mate bond because minutes ago he turned eighteen. Werewolf find their mate earlier than lycans and due to the fact that I am both a werewolf and a lycan he can feel the mate bond before me. 

    "Eden, Rylee, is it true?", I ask my wolves.

    "We can't feel the mate bond but just like you say, if you were completely lycan then he wouldn't feel it but due to your werewolf part he can percieve the mate bond first", answered Eden.

    "He's hot as f**k. Guess we do have a mate that will give us a hard time", Rylee said in a teasing way. 

    "Lilah's not ready to mate until she reaches twenty one. Her body is not ready to mate. We need strong pups", replied Eden to Rylee and before they could start a war in my mind I pushed them to the back of my mind.

    My mind was overdrive. My vision started to get blurry and soon I realized I was crying. I covered my sobs with my free hand while Axel looked blurry in my vision.

    "Did I hurt you?", he said as he started looking at my wrist for any injury. I shook my head as a response.

    "I'm sorry", was the only thing that came from my mouth. I couldn't say anything else. I couldn't feel the mate bond and that was killing me slowly. I didn't felt the same way he did about me. 

    "Why are you sorry Cupcake?", he asked wiping my tears away.

    "I'm sorry that I'm your mate", I said with sobs. Axel pulled me into a hug and caressed my hair. 

    "Don't be sorry. I'm happy that you are my mate", his words crashed my heart. While he was ready to give his life for me, I couldn't feel the mate bond. 

    I broke our embrace to look at him in the eyes. His eyes were showing love and affection and I started regreting the words that were about to leave my mouth. 

    "I can't feel the mate bond", I confesed. His eyes held nothing but confusion. I wasn't expecting him to understand why but he soon shook his head.

    "Maybe it's because you're not eighteen yet", he said trying to convince me. But I knew I had to wait four years for that to happen. I shook my head and just when I was ready to tell him who I really am the door flew open with a very angered Connor. He smelled like wolfsbane and alcohol, he tends to mix those two because he wants to get drunk as fast as a human. Dad told him to stop doing it but he wouldn't listen.

    "Step. Away. From. Her", he said with dark eyes. 

    "Lilah you can't trust him yet", he said through mindlink.

    "But he's my mate!", I defended through mindlink.

    "Mine!", growled Axel pulling me closer to him. 

    "She may be your mate but she's my sister and she's coming with me whether you like it or not", warned Connor. 

    Axel's eyes were no longer blue, he was indeed smelling my scent to calm himself. He even started circling my back and I was getting used to his touch. I cupped his cheeks and made him look at me. Ignoring that Connor was in the same room, I caressed his cheek. 

    "I'll see you tomorrow. Ok?", he looked at me with intensity. He leaned down putting his forehead in mine. I closed my eyes by instinct and tried to remember his scent. I was sad because I couldn't feel the mate bond and not because of my bond with dad. Axel's hand caressed my cheek and just like that I smelled them. 

    "Rogues!", barked Eden.

    My eyes snapped open and I turned to Connor.

    "Rogues", I say almost in a whisper but he hears me out and his eyes go wide. 

    "Where?", was Connor fast response. 

    I start sniffing again but I can smell them everywhere. Axel give us a confused look. 

    "They are everywhere! I can't tell where are they!", I say to an anxious Connor.

    "What do you mean they are everywhere?!", screamed a frustrated Connor.

    "Do not scream at her!", growled Axel.

    "We don't have time for this", I said before Connor's response. I gave Connor a stern look and he narrowed his gaze. I turned to look at Axel with the same expression and he looked like a puppy when I landed my eyes on him. 

    "Axel, I need you to stop the party. We need to lead pregnant women, children and elders to safety first.", I tell him and turn to Connor, "Connor regroup our pack members. This party had a lot of our pack members and even our future Beta is here. They are surrounding us and if they fall, we fall. Axel's pack needs all the help we can get", I said and he stormed out of the room while he started giving orders through mindlink. 

    After Connor left, Axel hugged me from behind and said in my ear, "You're so hot when you're in charge". My skin felt like fire by his comment. He kissed my cheek and stormed out letting me alone with my thoughts.
