Cat sat at her desk, daydreaming. She’d spent nearly every night over the past week at Ryder’s and every minute she spent with him and Kylie felt more and more right. Ryder hadn’t mentioned marriage again since that first night she stayed over, but Cat thought about it constantly.
Susan and Joe walked into the office while Cat’s back was to the door. Joe cleared his throat and Cat spun around. The smile fell from her face as she took in the looks on her parents’ faces.
“What wrong?” she asked them.
“Nothing is wrong, Catherine. But your dad and I need to talk to you.”
Cat sucked in a deep breath. They never came into her office together unless there was a problem. The last time was when her Aunt Judy died three years ago. She braced herself for news she wasn’t prepared to hear.
