CHAPTER 10: EAGER BEAVER

** ROMAN’S POV **

I turned 18 three months back and I am yet to find my mate, unlike Nick, who is the playboy alpha in line of the pack, I decided to save myself for my mate and it has not been easy to fend off all the she wolves that keep throwing themselves at me, I have seen men looking at women like they are a piece of meat but the she wolves, damn, they keep giving me those looks ‘I wish I find my mate soon coz I can’t take all these hungry stares!’

Our teach told us that there are 2 new students that will be joining our class this year. Nick had to go to Germany with his dad, who is our pack Alpha, the Red Hunters pack is hosting a party for his daughter for her 18th birthday. The Red Hunters pack is one of the most powerful packs in all of Germany and forging an alliance with them will make our pack the strongest in Australia.

The only issue is that Nick has a reputation that is known throughout the werewolf community and there is a nine out of ten possibilities that Sabrina, the daughter of the Alpha of the Red Hunters pack, may reject Nick as her mate.

I dialed his number to see if there is going to be a war “Yo, Nick, how is it going over there my man? Did she reject you yet?”

“Dude shut the fu*k up and no, turns out that I am not her mate, which I am more than grateful for seeing how uptight the whole family is” he sounded too happy to have not found his mate “I am too young to be stuck with one woman especially when there are so many out there offering themselves at the drop of my hat!”

“You know, one day, that cocky attitude of yours is going to be the reason for your heartbreak” I scoffed but stopped as I could smell a something faintly, it was a unique smell, a mix of cinnamon rose and something that I could not put my finger on. Nick’s voice faded into the distance “I will call you back” without waiting for his response I disconnected the call and followed in the direction from where the scent was coming.

As I kept walking the smell became more prominent ‘You know everyone in this school so why is it that you are only able to smell this intoxicating smell now? You need to find it’ my wolf, Rex, said excitedly as he paced around in my head.

‘You have to stop distracting me with all that pacing Rex!’ I yelled at my wolf and sniffed the air, but that smell was gone ‘See, if you were not such a nagging bit*h, I might have found out who it was!’

“Hey Rom, what are you doing near the girl's bathroom dude?” Sebastian spoke up from behind me ‘How did I not feel him coming up?’

“Hey Seb, I heard someone call out for help so just wanted to make sure that no one is hurt” ‘Phew! I hope he quits it!’

He pats my shoulder “Come on man, the girls are waiting for us, the class is about to start, and I do not want to go to Mr. Renzo’s office on my first of school, I am sure you do not want to as well!”

“You are right!” we regrouped in class and were busy bit*hing about when the very same smell hit me but this time it was very faint and there was something else mixed with it ‘It is not the same smell, stop sniffing like a dog!’ my wolf howled at me and that smell disappeared just as it appeared.

Two faces that I never saw before came into view ‘So, they are the new students, huh!’ both of them was about 5’2, one of them had curves for days on her while the other one had more softer curves on her ‘Just right!’ and for some reason, she was making my wolf go restless ‘Calm down Rex!’

‘Who is she? And why do neither of them have any smell neither human nor of any supernatural being?’ Rex, my wolf, asking those questions had me questioning if them being here is a blessing or going to be our doom.

Elaine, being Elaine, was being her usual bit*hy self, again and went after those girls ‘So, the one with softer curves is named Angela, huh! Nice name!’

‘You can’t let them bully her like this! Stop them Roman or I am going to, look at her, she looks so scared!’ Rex was bothering me, again so I had to block him out ‘You dare not shut me…’

‘I will deal with him later’ While I was busy fending Rex off, my friends were busy toying with her “Elaine, lay it off! Nick is not here and if our alpha gets wind of what you are doing, he will be extremely disappointed!” I tried to reason with her through our mind link and get her to stop being a bit*h but ended up getting nothing.

I was about to open my mouth and use my Beta tone to get her to heed to my command, but this girl, Sarah, stands up for the both of them and was not afraid in the least but my eyes were drawn to the timid girl standing behind the fierce lioness. When they started to walk away in the direction of the table, I was slightly disappointed that they gave up but damn, those girls have some balls to defy someone like Elaine.

My phone started buzzing in my pocket as the girls walked away, it was Nick calling “Yes, Nick” I did not let him speak “are you calling to tell me that you found your mate and are spellbound at how happy she makes you feel?”

“Oh, shut up Rom. I just called to check how things are going there, any word on the rogues?” his voice had a tinge of worry and there was a level of maturity that was not there before.

“Everything is quiet and fine out here. No word on the rogues yet, seems like they have gone into hiding all of a sudden! Nick?”

“Yeah”

“Is everything all right with you? You do not sound all right, what has got you thinking so much?” I wanted him to answer me honestly, but knowing him, I am sure that he will come up with a way to deflect my question.

“Everything is fine! There is nothing to worry about, I just had a little unsettling feeling, like something was wrong, so just wanted to check if my worry is uncalled for!” the worry was gone now from his tone.

“Ok”

“So, how are the new girls?” I shook my head at how much of an eager beaver he is being.

“You reek of desperation, future alpha, it does not suit you and the girls are more than fine actually” my gaze traveled to Angela having her lunch on the bleachers “They are not wolves nor do they carry a smell unique to supernatural beings, so that is something”.

“Hmmm…” there was a long silence from Nick before he continued “they could be witches hiding their scent to not be caught”.

“Witches? Were they not driven out during that war? There has not been a sighting of witch since then!” ‘Can they be witches?’

“Just make sure no one does anything till we are sure of who they are”
