Laura P.O.V
"Dad, I'm heading out right now," I yelled.
"Come back home safely," dad yelled back.
"I will," I replied. As I closed the door behind me, I walked out of the house. I glanced up at the sky stretching across the horizon. I could catch a glimpse of the world tree just to the west. It has always been one of my wishes to enter the ancient library to read astounding magical books. But whoever made entry into the library, death awaited for them at the exit of the door as commanded by the king.
All supernaturals hated the current king including myself. All of them held the same belief that the king had done something awfully wrong to the previous king to usurp the throne. We wished that the previous king would see the corruption that has been going on right now and save us from the pool of the corruption. The country that he fought hard to build is falling into apart. The five generals of each region are doing their best to fight back, but the new greedy king had all the power one would never have had imagined. He wanted to wipe out the supernatural species.
The coexistence of the supernatural with the humans that visionary previous king had established peacefully were falling apart. I hated war, but I feared the war breaking up between the supernatural species and the mankind. I prayed for our salvation at the mercy of the gods who was willing to save us from calamity. No one wanted to die.
Yggdrasil, the world tree came into the picture. It held the histories of the entire universe. The world tree contained every vital information including stories of the gods and goddess. Perhaps the world tree must be having something that can help us to stop the occurrence of war. While I was immersed in the thought of war, another image came into my mind.
If it's true that every single information is contained in the world tree, then without a doubt, they will have the story about a girl who is stuck in the forest. Which meant that there must be information about Ahri. I need to get in there. If I can dig up any clues about Ahri's whereabouts then it's worth the risk. Even if I'm caught I will figure something out.
I glanced up at the sky then to north seeing a speck of the world tree. I had gone to the world tree once when I was young. I learned a few tricks there, and I am going to use it right here and right now. I closed my eyes imagining the world tree inside my mind. I inhale and exhale and thought of the spell I used before, “Momentus Isaharl Festus.”
I opened my eyes with high hopes. As expected I found myself standing before the tree. I vented out my anger without making a sound. I didn’t want to be caught. Luckily, I remembered a spell from the past and whispered quietly to myself, “Come camouflage me where no eyes can see me.” I could feel the trickling sensation crawling up my skin. The spell was working! However, using magic comes with a price to pay and that is the absorbance of our energy. I needed to get into the tree fast before my energy depleted. I did not want to get caught.
I ran to the tree surrounded by the bushes. The fear roared loudly inside me. The fear of getting caught and failing miserably overpowered me. I was sweating so much. I could feel the drops trickling down my spine. The magic started taking a toll on my body. My energy started depleting. s**t! No, I can’t give up here. I dashed towards the tree. Since I made it this far, I wasn’t going to back down. The minute I saw the entrance of the tree I slipped inside using the last bit of strength. I said the invisibility spell again and it got dispelled.
Behind my back, I closed the door and glide down to catch my breath I was hyperventilating. I knew that I needed to rest, but it was impossible with the king guards keeping a close watch at every corner. After the slight dizziness faded from the image, I stood watching their my every move around my surroundings. I knew that the when will the guards show up at any moment.
I took precaution with the area before walking into it. I needed to find the keeper of the tree, the fairies. They would know the information I needed desperately. The fairies kept and organized the huge magical library. They had the knowledge of where the information was kept in the vast endless library. I needed to bring myself back to reality. There were always a couple of guards to check up on the place.
As I continued to look for the fairies, I somehow touched the tree. The older tree had so powerful that it brightened up my terrified soul. It wasn’t like those ordinary old trees, drying up in the sun. Having given up all hope of survival standing to gradually rot to the ground. This old tree had so much life in it despite its wounded trunk. I could feel its powerful breathing, the air gushing in and out.
As I turned around, my eyes fell upon the tiny immortal beings. They suspended themselves in the air they flapped their wing beautifully into the fragranced air. Fairies. I gasped. It's the fairies I had been trying hard to look for. Their big eyes gracefully switched to the right and then to the left. As they realized everything was clear and safe, they advanced toward me.
"We haven't had visitors in a long time," one of the fairies in a white petal dress flowing down her curve broke the silence.
A fairy dressed in orange nodded in agreement."Indeed. we have been so lonely. It used to be exciting and alive. But now we are dead yet alive."
“Aren’t you the werewolf. But that was really a long time ago?” a fairy in a pink dress pointed out. Her face beautifully and perfectly blended with her dress.
My lips gradually stretched into a smile, "That's me," I whispered.
"Laura!" the fairy in the white dress called out. "What you seek will be presented to you, but there is one information is missing from it. Nut we can fill it in. We will tell you the story."
I looked at them in confusion, my eyes spoke better. "What is it?" I questioned. The fairies are one of the knowledgable species. By just having a glance at a particular subject, they had the power to read the other's mind. They could dig into their eyes and explore their history.
"The girl who was trapped in the forest." the pink fairy added.
"Once, long ago." the green fairy started with the story. "Just when the world tree was being brought in, a young girl had entered this world. She wanted to discover more about the amazing creature so called as the human being. She decided to learn about the land in which she had stepped in. But as time passed by, everything changed. She badly wanted to return back. She saw a boy sitting on the edge of the cliff. As he stared thoughtlessly into what lay beneath him, she quickened herself towards her. Sharp edges of the rocks opened up to the sky, branches of the trees, slim and evil. She needed to stop him. Stop him from taking a step or else he would drown himself slowly into the air and land on the branches and the rocks. It would mercilessly pierce his flesh and stop his breath. She rushed over to the cliff in time before the boy could take a step further. She poured her heart out as tears pooled in her eyes. She explained how precious his life was for himself. No matter what dragged him to that state, he needed to be considerate to himself. And then the boy understood the value of life and decided to change for the better. Since that moment, they spend most of their time together. The girl gave her best to make him feel better. Her presence made him safe and comfortable. But the boy was not what she thought would be. One day the boy betrayed her and trapped her by using the tree knowledge. So that is how she got trapped."
"But do you guys know her name? Was her name Ahri?"
"We do not know," the fairy in white spoke.
"But there is one thing she is the daughter of the most legendary elder race the one who created this world?"
"She is an elder daughter?" words flowed out through my boneless tongue.
"Yes," the fairy in pink replied. "He is a very powerful elder one who rules the entire Earth?"
"So can you guys tell where is this girl trapped?" I questioned. I was glad that I was getting the information that I needed. I was glad that I came. I do not regret coming to such a dangerous place.
"No we can't," the white fairy said. "One of the elders personally told us not to give that information to anyone. We are forbidden to speak about it but to give a little story to a girl whose name is Laura Glimpse, an alpha who can't control her wolf."
"Why me?"
“Because they think that you are the only one who can save her. And one last information that we can give you, and that is in here, in this place, where this tree is located. There is also a place that is called the valley of shadows and many mysterious things unravel here.”
"The valley of shadows?"
"Yes, and it could only be open if you say these words, Sun, stars, and moon open the path to the universe’s darkest corner. This will be your only clue to figuring out where the girl is?"
"Thank you.” I shall truly remain indebted. It’s been a while and not a single guard had come into the tree to capture me. That surprised me.
“We have set up a barrier around us where the guards will not hear our words, but you should go now before they suspect that we are gone for so long.”
"Yes," I said and set up the invisibility spell again and ran to the exit. Once again my energy started depleting but I was safe. I ran a safe distance from the tree. I dispelled my invisibility spell and started walking but to only bump into someone. I fell to the ground.
As I glanced up,I saw a familiar pair of eyes. I remembered that she was the girl I saw on the train the one who kept on looking at me. "Who are you?"
"There is no time for me to talk," she spoke.
"What do you mean?"
"Please, you got to hide me?" She heard the panic in her voice.
"Why?"
"That is because I am the daughter of the king and I ran away from the palace."
