Two weeks later.
"I want you to take care of yourself, Everly, Seattle can be dangerous," says my mother, crushing me in her embrace.
"It'll be fine, I'll be staying in a hotel, and I'll only be away from home for two weeks!"
"I'll miss you, dear."
"Me too."
I give her another hug, and we part. She looks behind me and frowns.
"Isn't that your teacher?"
I look back and see Joshua. We agreed to go together, but he could have avoided showing up in front of my mother. He's in the boarding line pretending not to see me.
We walk over to him, and he pretends to be surprised to see us here.
"Everly, Linda, it's a pleasure to see you again, are you traveling?" I feel like laughing at his act.
"Eve is going to Seattle to take entrance exams for college. and you?" my mother asks cur
