Punishment

I froze, about to take a bite of the tart which is obviously what I was going to eat first. Placing the tart back onto its holder, I looked at Gidon in the eye, a large thump in my throat as I attempted to compose myself. Of course you would be very awkward after declaring to be a traitor and fighting with the people that you grew up with. Even I couldn't make a remark about that so instead, I just sat there, staring at the floor in shame and utter embarrassment. "Interesting fight you put up for that man," Gidon finally said while pacing slowly around the empty room. I looked up, glancing up at his expression and looking back down at the floor. Even though it was not my say to speak, I had to defend myself. "Sir, you always say we are swor~" "Enough! You broke a rule to defend an enemy of your species. And you defy your superiors to protect this man. Who are you but a traitorous enemy yourself? If it weren't for me, you would have been beheaded this morning. Either you listen to me now or I let the axe fall." I could tell he was furious but I had no other choice but to listen to him. I looked at his gaze and nodded in understanding at the threat that was looming over my head, letting him continue. "Now, for one, you are still bound to this man and therefore, we are going to get rid of him once and for all. Either you choose to sacrifice your sanity and let us kill him or we lock him up where he can't escape. The decision is up to you." I thought for a moment. Even though I had never actually gotten to meet this man fully, I still had an obligation to protect him at the cost of my life. Killing him would also make me defy my orders. Though of course, it seemed like I was going to have to listen if I didn't want to be killed. But I still found it somewhat ironic that the only choice I had was to lock him up. If I didn't listen to Gidon, I'd be beheaded, if I followed through with getting my mortal killed, I'd also be driven to death from sanity. So either way, I had to choose the latter. "Lock him up. But, I have my own circumstances." I looked at him with a serious gaze. "If he is to be locked up, I want no harm to come to him for since I am bound to him, he is my weakness quite literally." Gidon held my gaze for a second. "Only if you decide to obey my rules from now on and forget your oath to protect him." Seemed like he was trying to play a game, getting basically everything he wanted but only giving me half of what I wanted. But there was a fair deal in it though. I looked at him and nodded, "Alright then. As long as no harm befalls him, I will obey my orders, but as long as he is not harmed. And believe me when I say I will feel it if he is." Gidon looked at me with a confused gaze. "What do you mean by feel it?" he asked. "When I first met him, I was able to feel the pain you were inflicting on him and by my guess, he can feel mine as well." Gidon placed a hand to his temple, a very weird habit of his it seemed to be of course. "Well then you have my word he will not be harmed." was all he said after a moment of contemplating my words. I nodded and gestured to the thing around my head and the liquid metal that held my wings folded. "Can I get this off?" I asked, touching the cold band around my head. Gidon shook his head, "Not until you prove that you are back on our side. Now, lets go. I suggest you eat while we get preparations to locate him." I nodded, quickly scarfing down the fruit and meat while holding my tart delicately like it was fragile. We walked out the door and I was met with a loud noises coming from the directions of the library. I glanced at Gidon and saw that we weren't even going that way. Instead of asking though, I just kept my mouth shut and kept walking behind him. Looking at the floor, I could feel eyes on both of us as we walked through the large hallway, most likely smirking at me because of how I was being bound. We turned a couple of corners and finally came up to a steel door with no handle. We were in the council room where the other members were seated at. When I looked up to glance around the room, I saw that they were all looking at me. I felt my cheeks flush a bit, as I knew it was strange to see the greatest warrior as I was known to be bounded together like I was a prisoner. That was probably a title to be stripped of. I was most likely known as the traitorous one to all the other fallen angels and angels alike. Knowing how fast gossip spread around here, I wouldn't be surprised. Gidon motioned me to sit but it was quite embarrassing to do that when my wins were bound directly behind me. They pushed against the seat and I couldn't sit comfortably so I cleared my throat and glanced at Gidon, signalling I would stand instead. He waved it away and sat at his own seat, looking at the others. "So, we have come to an agreement and we are going to capture him instead. Kayla has agreed to help out but the only thing is we are not allowed to wound him in any way." When he said this, I saw all of them look at him with a frown. This made me feel somewhat better since they weren't getting everything they wanted. Gidon raised his hands up almost as if in surrender. "Kayla, can you explain to them why we have came to those terms?" I looked at him with a confused expression. I had just told him the reason. Why couldn't he say it himself? I cleared my throat and looked at each member of the council and nodded in agreement. "If harm were to come to him, I would feel it. If I ever feel it, our deal is off and I will not be bound by our recent agreements." Murmurs erupted from all of them and I looked at Gidon in confusion, wondering if there was something he was not supposed to agree with. As the murmuring continued, Gidon placed his palms in the air, signalling everyone to calm down. Gidon finally turned to me and looked at me with so much seriousness, I was very scared for what he was or wasn't about to say. "Kayla, the reason why it comes as a surprise to us is that the last war between us and the serpents ended because of two individuals who were so powerful, an overwhelming emotion could easily s*******r the entire Council. Those two could feel everything that the other can, but with just the news of you being able to feel the pain of this mortal is concerning. However we may have to develop further tests later on." I looked at him with a surprised expression. "Tests! Are we testing me with needles and stuff now?!" I coughed as I realized my voice had risen and brought it back low. "You want me to test what I can do with this mortal of mine? He's not really a mortal anyway, I don't even know him well. I was captured and then brought to a place where it was full of icky snakes and then I was bombarded by you. So, I need better clarification on this." I folded my arms and frowned, a gesture made by a child that I used way too much when I was younger. Gidon looked at me and sighed, "I said later on. It just depends if there turns out to be other things that pop up that aren't supposed to. However, we may have you visit him for a test run. But our rules still stand. If you disobey my rules, we will not hesitate in killing him; or you," he added quietly, glancing at the others. I nodded, realizing I just needed to continue my initial job and worry about the scary stuff later on. Everyone else fell silent as the sound of chairs sliding signaled that everyone was now standing, "Now we need to get you to earn your title back." I looked up from where I had been staring at the floor and saw Gidon now held a bucket of paint and a paintbrush. I heard snickers from the Council as I took the tools and left the room. I would think twice before making last minute decisions next time.
