Chapter 09: The Empire (1)

“You b***h! You dared to hurt the future Empress!” - a very familiar voice angrily said to me. I cannot clearly see his face but I know him because of his voice. But why is he scolding me? Why is he calling me a lowly name that even a mere commoner can’t stand.

“You stay here and repent! If anything happens to her again I’ll make sure you’ll be executed!” - he said again and before I could even defend myself I saw his figure disappearing from my sight. What is actually going on? I believe that I did not do anything to harm someone, especially the future Empress.

I am about to close my eyes to reminisce every thing that had happened when I heard footsteps coming towards the cell where I am in. So I decided to keep my eyes open for a little while.

“Tsk it’s a waste that you did not get executed. Well, I guess it is an advantage of being the princess of a foreign kingdom.” -the person said and I can’t help but to be shocked to see the crown prince’s lover in front of me with a smug look on her face like she was really disappointed that I did not get instantly killed by the crown prince.

“What have I done to be in this situation?” - that question instantly came out from my mouth and I saw how her lips curved up to form a grin

“Well first it is because of your face. I started hating you when the crown prince looked at you like you are the most beautiful person in the Empire. Second is because of your kindness, your kindness sickens me, it makes me want to p**e. Third is that I just want to kill you Princess Eclipse Raeliana Wynknight”

“Rae! Wake up!” - agad akong napadilat dahil sa malakas na pag-gising saakin ni Nox. Tumingin ako sakanya at napakunot ang noo ko ng makitang puno ng pag-aalala ang kanyang mukha.

“What happened? Why do you look like that?” - takang tanong ko and he sighed

“You are having a nightmare so I was worried. Anyways we are already inside the empire, a few more minutes and we’ll arrive at our arranged home for our three days stay” - he said and what shocked me the most is not the fact that we are already inside the Empire but the one that I actually had a nightmare.

Napasapo ako ng aking noo at sinimulan kong alalahanin ang nangyari. I dreamt about me, or rather about the original characters in the novel. It was the time when Raeliana was already sent into prison for attempting to kill the female lead which she actually did not really do.

Thinking about that I will already meet them makes my head throb with pain.

“Rae” -Nox called out to me and when I look at him he still has this worried expression on his face.

“I’m fine Nox, don’t worry. It’s just a bad dream nothing more” - nakangiti kong saad pero hindi siya kumibo at nanatili lang siyang nakatitig saakin.

His stare lasted for about a minute so I too decided to keep my smile to not worry him anymore then finally he decided to finally speak.

“We can go back if you don’t want to be here. Just say it and I’ll immediately send a letter to the emperor that we’d rather have our own celebration of my coming-of-age ceremony” - he said and I can sense his seriousness. Napangiwi nalang ako dahil sa sinabi niya. He is really willing yo risk everything. *sigh*

“I’m really fine Nox. I can perfectly handle myself and I believe that you will always support me” - pangu-ngumbinsi ko sakanya and instead of replying he just heave a deep sigh and he looked outside the window.

*sigh*

I still get shocked whenever he is acting like an over protective brother. Hindi ko nga alam kung kaninp niya namana ang ugali na yun eh.

Makaraan ang ilang minuto ay huminto na ang karwahe at nang makakababa na kaming dalawa ni Nox at nasilayan ko na ang bahay na pagmamayari daw ng aming pamilya ay halos mahimatay na ako.

“Nox... when.. when did we got such a huge home inside the empire?” - di ko makapaniwalang tanong. Dahil sa totoo lang ay wala pa akong kaalaam sa mga properties na mayroon kami. I would love to know but mom said that it is still too early for me to know about the properties that are under our surname. Dahil kapag napag-aralan ko na daw lahat baka mawalan na siya ng trabaho and she’ll end up getting bored.

“Eclipse sweetheart, this was actually bought when you were thirteen years old. This is actually under your name” - mom said with a smile plastered on her face, even dad has the same expression, Nox on the other hand stayed expressionless but I can see clearly how his lips curve up a little and I can’t help but to fake a smile.

Hindi ko alam kung wala lang ba mapag-gastusan ng pera ang mga magulang ko para bumili sila ng ganitong kalaking bahay para sa sa birthday ko. Geez now I can’t even imagine what they will give me when I reached nineteen.

“Let’s go inside now so that we can rest since tomorrow night will be the first ball” - Dad said and I just nod my head.

Paglakad naman papasok ay inalalayan ni Dad si mom at gayundin ang ginawa ni Nox saakin. Pagpasok na pagpasok namin ay sinalubong kami ng isang butler at ilang maids

“Welcome Duke, Duchess and the little duke and duchess” the butler said and I can’t help but to let out a chuckle because of his greetings.

Why exactly am I laughing? Because he just greeted Nox as the little duke. I can’t believe that even though how tall he had grown and how mature his face had become his is still considered as the ‘little’ duke.

Oh and I have no complaint about what he called me. I am still considered as a child because I haven’t reach the adult age.

“Tsk. Stop it Rae” - Nox said on my mind and I tried my best to stop laughing further. Baka kasi mapikon siya at hindi niya na ako pansinin. Although alam ko naman na hindi niya ako matitiis.

“Bring our baggaes to the respected rooms just leave it there and arrange it tomorrow. We badly need to rest since there will be a ball tomorrow” - Dad ordered them and in unison they replied,

“Yes duke”

And with that we make our way towards our respected rooms, Alice and Ashton are behind us while Luke is currently checking the perimeters. As usual, hinatid ako ni Nox sa harapan ng kwarto ko.

“Sleep Well, Rae. And if an assassin comes don’t hesitate to kill okay?” - he said and I smiled as I nod my head. Kahit di niya naman sabihin yun ay gagawin ko talaga, especially now that I missed a lot of fun like killing monsters and eradicating nuisances.

“Alice and Ashton be on guard. This is the Empire and I hate to say it but we still have a lot more to know about this place” - paalala naman niya sa magkapatid. Alice and Ashton then bowed their heads and they replied the same words the maids and butlers said.

“Good night Rae” - Nox gave his final goodbyes as he landed a kiss on my forehead. My eyes went wide for a second because I am not still that used with this sweet gesture of his but after a second I smiled

“You too Nox. Sleep well and have a good night sleep” - I whispered and I immediately entered my room and Alice followed me.

Well this is my first night here in the Empire. Although I want to have some fun by killing possible assassins but I also want this night to be peaceful. Ayoko namang maging haggard bukas sa party even though I hate seeing those characters I can’t just let myself look so ugly.

A princess should be presentable always even though she is experiencing hardships.
