Break a leg

The tension grew on such a scale that even the students passing by had to stop and watch the fight that was about to happen.

A girl knocks really hard on the headmaster’s door. Tak!*Tak!*Tak!

The door half-opened and the head of the half-asleep Headmaster pop out.

“ Yes?”

“Please excuse my rude behaviour, Headmaster, but a fight is about to break out between the transfer student and a group from his advance class. Apparently, the new student challenge all of them in the arena.”

The Headmaster had an uninterested look in his face. The girl felt angry when the Headmaster did not even showed interest.

“Is that so? Well, tell them to break anything but the structures. Thanks.” After saying it, he shut the door.

“Tug!”

The girl was amazed and left with her mouth wide open. She was shocked that the Headmaster valued the arena more than the lives of the students.

“What the hell?! Headmaster, please stop the fight!” The girl is so furious that she keep banging the door of the headmaster, while the headmaster laid in his bed trying to savor the momentary freedom in sleeping.

“Let them deal with it themselves! They’re old enough for that!”

The girl heard his voice through the door, hearing it made her even more persistent to kept banging at the door.

“Ah! Give me some time to sleep! I’ve been awake for a whole week already!” The Headmaster could not have a wink of sleep because of the loud banging. As the comedy scene of the Headmaster continued, Rai and the group of students that he had challenged head to the arena.

The arena is a very large and spacious area that is only used for challenges and some events, with an octagon shaped floor at the center carved with the words “Eternal Flame”. A student volunteered to be the Referee. The opposing group was followed by a large crowd cheering on them. A lot of them are excited about the outcome of the fight.

“We got quite a lot of spectators today, pal” Harris said while glaring at Rai, expecting him to be disheartened that no one is cheering up for him.

“Are we just going to do a staring contest here?”

“We’ll let them see your unsightly face when we trample you on the ground.”

The girl that kept pestering the Headmaster returned defeated and told the Referee that she was not able to bring the Headmaster to stop the fight, both sighed in defeat as they don’t have a way to stop the fight now.

A student manage to hear the news and shouted, “Isn’t that great?! No one can stop them from beating the s**t out of that guy!”

Some members of the group smirk at the chance of humiliating Rai in front of a large crown, but Rai just smiled back at them.

“Are we really going to do this? This doesn’t feel right. I have a bad feeling about this.” Rica, the Main Healer of the group asked her friends. She does not really like fight but got dragged because her friends told her so.

“Are you chickening out now?”

“No Clara of course not, but I am having this bad feeling for a while now.”

“It’s too late, because I can’t wait to destroy his annoying face.”

The Referee walked in the middle and asks if they are going to do this now.

“I am ready when they are.” Rai answered as the group got ready to fight him. Each of them started to activate their spells. The Tank’s shield emitted a yellow color on the outlines of his shield. Rai wore a smile as he wait for the first one to engage.

The Tank started to move and charge at Rai’s head.

“As expected, my first prey” Rai said as he slowly move towards the Tank. Moments later, he started to run to match the pace of the Tank. Taro is confident in his sturdiness. Rai saw his confidence projected from his eyes.

When the Tank was about to collide with Rai, he moved his shield in Rai’s direction thinking of blocking the incoming attacks, taunting the enemy into engaging him is a very favorable situation for his team. But before the moment they clash, Rai made a frontal kick on the shield.

“Huh? Did he not kick my shield?”

The tank did not feel the impact of the kick and the last thing he know, he is already flying to a wall. The shield got left behind and is spinning high in the air, the sudden turn of events left everybody in awe that they forgot how to breathe for a short time.*

“Huh?”

“What happened?”

“Did that Tank just flew after a single kick?”

The crowd was confused as Taro is not a weak tank to begin with. Among the witnesses, Taro’s team mates took the huge hit. Sweat started to form on their faces as they stared at the person who sent their Tank flying after a single kick.

“You should have forced the Headmaster out in whatever means necessary, because are not going to get out of this arena without a broken bone or two.” Rai declare as he gave them a smile, the spectators could not believe what they saw. The patrol group from the West Forest was there as well, after hearing some noisy students passing by their dorms talking about the transfer student taking on a group. The whole arena was still in shock except for a single person, Gaia. This guy is holding his stomach as he laughs at the poor soul who had to take the first hit from Rai.

“i***t! What a big i***t for letting the enemy hit you first! What are you doing, testing the water for?” The crowd around him heard what he said, the faces they are making are a mix of anger and shock.

The shield is falling back on the ground, suddenly Rai kick the shield in the direction of the Magic Swordsman, who barely able to parry the shield and force him to dodge it instead. The shield got buried into the ground after the Magic Swordsman decided to dodge it.

“Rica! Tend to Taro’s wounds.” Harris ordered as he hold a tighter grip on his sword, Rica rush towards Taro, who was barely able to stand. Rai wore a smile the whole time, he saw Rica rush to her wounded comrade.

“Hey storkface! Is she an advance healer as well?”

“Yeah, she can heal our tank in a flash. Still think you can defeat us?”

Rai sighs in relief and shake his head. “Good, you are going to need it badly.” Rai gave off a villainous smile this time. The Tank got back up after being healed.

“Yo, what’s with that monstrous strength, my arms went numb after a single kick. You weren’t like that when you left” Taro is extending his arms as he walk back.

“I’ll tell you if you manage to land a single hit on me.”

“Tch! You sure are cocky. Let’s see that smile of yours when I smash your face in.”

“That kick was no joke, if my body is not sturdier, that kick would rip both of my arms off. Be careful.” Taro regains his perfect condition after Rica healed him.

Rai got impress by the healer’s ability and praised her, “Oh look at you, you are back. Wow, that Healer is good, it’s as if he did not receive any damage at all.” Rai said in a very delightful tone.

“Heh, we are called The Undying Team with Rica as our backbone.”

“You know that name is corny, right?”

The crowd manage to gain back their confidence in the opposing team after Rica healed Taro of his injuries.

“Whoa! That’s a nice healer they got! No wonder they were reckless from the start.” Gaia exclaimed as the crowd look towards him.

“Hey dude, which side are you really on?”

“Well, I’m on the side that wins. But if you ask me, those poor things really have bad luck, to try and pick a fight with Rai in his furious state. They have my condolences.” Gaia told them after he gestured to pay respects as if they were dead.

“What did you say?!” Some guys grab his collar and glared at him but Gaia just smile.

“Want to make a bet with me?” He is successful in taunting them.

“Sure! I’ll bet one thousand gold coins to the group.”

“A thousand gold coi-” Gaia stutter as he heard the bet of the opposing side, he was shock that the guy is willing to bet a thousand gold coins- or is he. “What? Why so small, you poor or something?”

Nerves were taking shape in their forehead as Gaia is taunting them even more. To add more fuel to the fire Gaia tried to give them another push.

“Dude, can’t you bet a litttttle higher?” Gaia said in a tone that’s making fun of them.

“Hey guys, did you just hear what this dipshit just said?”

“How can’t I? I’m right beside him the whole time.”

Gaia was able to taunt twenty students to make a bet with him.

[Meanwhile]

“Hey, Healer or whoever you are. I won’t touch a single hair on your body but in return, just heal them whenever I beat them up.” Rai proposed a deal with Rica who is determined to heal her comrades without his order.*

“I have a name and it is Rica, that goes without you saying it.”

“It’s a sh-” Rai did not finish his words when he dodge the spell directed at him, they did not waste a time and followed up with the Magic Swordsman and Tank as the two Mages are casting spells at Rai.

“Wow, great coordination” Rai praise them as he dodge their relentless barrage of attacks.

“But what if I do this?” Rai dash towards the Mages, his actions are too fast that it surprised the melee attackers and reacted late as they chased on Rai. The Mages keep their attacks on Rai to slow him down for the melee attackers to pick him up but Rai still manage to evade their spells even in close range. Rai threw a feint punch at the male Mage and as he anticipated, the male Mage backed off for a short distance using a spell.

“Got you.” Rai change the direction of his punch with a spin and direct it towards the female Mage. Before he can hit the Mage, he open his palm and struck her in the chest, Rai greatly reduce the strength that he used but it was still enough to lift the Mage two meters in the air.

“Kuk!” The crowd is in amazement on how he performed the feint in sudden change of direction like water.

“Oh! Looks like they lost a hand in bringing him down” Gaia shouted with a smirk in this face, they decided to let him run his mouth and focused on the arena.

“You bastard!” Groaned Leroy, as they rushed to Clara’s side. Rica was about to heal her but to her surprise Clara is still able to stand up. The others were surprised as well, the spectators were no different except for Gaia who keeps laughing his a** off.

“Huh? Were his power not that strong?” Rai smiles as he disappeared when the Leroy started to bombard him with spells. The rest of the group got to where the female mage is.

“Are you okay?”

“How are you still able to stand?” Her teammates asked her.

“I don’t know as well, but it looks like his attacks are no longer strong.”

“Lucky us.”

Seeing their comrade fine after taking a direct hit made them think that Rai lost his gas.

“Let me show you how to use a spell properly”

“Crackle!”

“Crackle!”

Rai’s right hand started to glow, sparks of light are dancing in his arms and a purple lightning formed a spear in his hand. Smiles from Gaia and Rai’s face are visible.

“It’s about time you show us you spell abilities.”

They formed two groups with their mages in the front to clock the incoming lightning attack.

“You are underestimating us too much.”

“We learned how to counter lightning element spells over the years.” Taro boasted as the mages got ready. The mages smirked at their certain victory in blocking Rai’s attack.

“Lucky you.” Rai threw his lightning spear powerfully but when it was about to hit the group, it disappeared on thin air. Confused about what happened, they glanced at Rai but he is no longer there, they looked up after seeing a purple light above them and saw Rai already released his second lightning spear and it was approaching fast. This time, the lighting spear exploded mid air and scattered around the opposing team.*

“Ksssshk!”

“Kssshk!”

When they decided to get out of the affected area, the lightning spears scatter around them formed in a cage. To their surprise, Rica is able to get out of the affected area with ease.

“Wah!”

“Rica, how come you are not affected?”

“I don’t know as well”

Rai smiled, “Didn’t I say, “I would not touch a single hair on your body?”

*Their eyes widened in surprise on the level of control he have over his ability.

“Now for the main attack, Healer. Heal them for me, will you?”

A much larger lightning spear formed in his hand and throw it with such strength that his right foot got buried on the floor a little.*

“Try blocking this one.”

The crowd was in awe after seeing a powerful spell but Gaia instantly caught their attention when he suddenly shouted, “Run! Get awa- oops”

The mages got ready to counter the spell that is coming right at them. Clara’s eyes widened as she realize that she can no longer use concentration*

“Hey Clara, what are you waiting for? Execute the spell!”

“I can’t!”

“What?!”

Before they could manage to cover the others, the lightning spear has already reached them. The ground shook after the spear landed. A huge crater was created at the center of impact.

The male mage successfully brought the shield up but the female mage failed to do so and ended up taken down with the tank.

“What happened?”

“What the hell was that?”

The crowd around Gaia went on an uproar after seeing what happened, but in order to break the ice, he explained while smiling, “The concentration was broken”

[Back to the arena]

“You bastard! What did you do?!”

“Calm down Harris, I think I know what happened. That palm attack earlier, I think this guy knows how to stop the circulation of our concentration. That’s what happened.”

After hearing Leroy’s explanation Harris moved towards his fallen comrades. Rica was also moving towards them to heal both the tank and the female mage.

“Does that mean she can’t fight anymore?”

“Most likely, with her and Taro down, we can’t hope to defeat this monster.”

“No, there is a way.”

In that moment, the magic swordsman broke his necklace. A powerful surge of wind blew from his direction.

“A limiter, I see. Please entertain me”

That moment Rica arrived and healed her injured teammates. Time seemed to have stopped for Harris. He disappeared immediately and appeared behind Rai swinging his sword right at him. This surprised the crowd and made them cheer for Harris.

“That guy is finished for sure.”

Gaia was smiling really hard. “What at shame, he’s in for one hell of a pain.”

Time seemed to have stopped for the both of them, Harris sensed that something was wrong, no, it is definitely wrong.

“Quite a skill you got there, but what a shame”

When Harris’ blade was about to cut Rai he lost feeling on his arms, his blade was cut in half and his arms are sent flying upwards holding the hilt of his sword. It was then when he felt pain and saw a sword materialized out of nowhere and disappeared in Rai’s hand right after his attack failed.

“Tsssk!”

*Blood was spouting on his amputated arms.*

“Thud”

“My arms!”

“What the?!”

“That was Harris’ trump card!”

The crowd was silent for a brief moment as their expectations betrayed them, Gaia pity the poor guy but still laughed his a** off. The patrol group from the west forest were shocked as well.

“Healer heal him.”

Rica felt the bloodlust from Rai’s voice and was afraid to take a step forward but after she saw Harris gritting his teeth from the pain, she quickly rush towards him.

Fear is enveloping the arena, Rai beat them to death over and over again as Rica healed them right after. The fight is no longer a match but a one-sided m******e.

“Hey someone stop him!”

“He is killing them!”

The crowd no longer want to watch, the referee is even scared to stop the match. When Rai is about to amputate Harris’ arm, Rica stood right in front of Harris to shield him.

“No more please, you have proven your strength. I can no longer heal them. I have already exhausted my concentration.”

Rai stared at her and eventually left his stance, Rica was crying over her teammates, the female mage also did the same. None of them had the will to fight anymore, only fear of death remains. Their thoughts of being strong were a pipe dream.

“To see a woman standing for her teammates, it seems that you are the only one brave enough to stand in my way, even though the fear of death is holding you down. Very well, I will stop. You have a good team.”

Rica fell on her knees as Rai walk away from the arena.

“Thank you” Rica grovelled with tears streaming from her eyes. Rai heard her and continued to walk.
