CHAPTER 2 -
Vega slowly released his grip on Luna like a lioness letting down her cub. He retreated on her bed, his head banging from rage, he had pierced himself with his nails and his blood was dropping.
"Luna, where is the suitor I sent to you?" Vega asked as he pushed back on the mattress attempting to find comfort in his questioning.
Luna's eyes rolled everywhere, he could see through her. How she was searching for information in the walls. His heart found great warmth and peace in knowing that she was indeed oblivious to the death of the alien.
"It would have killed me if you were involved," he thought to himself.
"Dad, I was out in the woods. I didn't like him and I don't like all the guys you send to me," Luna said, trying to sound convincing.
Vega stood and brushed her off his path. "Take off those field clothes underneath your robe and come down for dinner now!" He stumped as he walked out of her room.
Luna peeped at her training clothes underneath her robe and cursed herself for not thinking about it in the first place.
At the dinner table, the atmosphere was tense. Vega's eyes kept drifting to Luna, his mind racing with questions and doubts.
Danielle, his wife, seemed to sense his unease, her eyes flashing with malice. "Perhaps we should discuss the murder, Vega," she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "After all, it did happen in Luna's court."
Luna's eyes flashed with anger, her face pale with rage. "How dare you, Danielle," she spat, her voice venomous.
Vega's hand slammed on the table, the sound echoing through the room. "Enough!" he roared, his eyes blazing with anger. "We will not discuss this further until the investigation is complete."
The dining area never echoed so much silence like it did that day. Luna sat at the right side of her father, where she had always sat ever since she could remember.
Her stepmom, Danielle, looked down at her boys; Axel and Ryder. She wanted to say something hence she rearranged her hair and cleared her throat.
"I'm not interested, Danielle. Not today!" Vega echoed.
"A murder happened in this castle today, and it remains a mystery even to me," Vega voiced. One could hear the Alpha's hurt pride from his voice.
"How is that a mystery? It happened in Luna's court!" Danielle blurted with clear disdain written on her face.
"So what if it happened at my court?" Luna responded with fiery spikes darting out of her eyes.
"Luna is right, it happened in her court, but that doesn't mean she's involved," Vega said, his eyes narrowing.
"I never said she was involved, Vega," Danielle said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
Vega's eyes locked onto Danielle's, his gaze piercing. "I know what you're trying to do, Danielle. But I won't let you ruin Luna's reputation."
Danielle's face darkened, her anger simmering just below the surface. "I'm just trying to get to the truth, Vega."
"The truth will come out soon enough," Vega said, his voice firm. "But until then, let's not jump to conclusions."
The dinner table fell silent, the tension palpable. Vega's eyes kept drifting to Luna, his mind racing with questions and doubts.
As the dinner drew to a close, Vega's eyes locked onto Luna's, his gaze piercing. "Luna, I need to speak with you. Now."
Luna's heart skipped a beat as she rose from her seat, her eyes never leaving her father's. She knew that she was in trouble, and she had no idea what her father had planned for her.
As they walked in silence, Vega's mind was racing with thoughts of the scandal and how it would affect Luna's position as his heir. "If the council finds out about this, they'll use it as an excuse to question Luna's fitness to rule," he thought to himself. "I have to keep this quiet, for Luna's sake."
