"Your throwing a what now?" Erick asked annoyed. Queen Miranada overlooked it though. If there is one thing Erick does not like, it's surprises and being around a lot of people.
"A ball Lord Prim. To welcome you." She happily said.
"Would you quit it with this lord stuff. I'm a normal man from a normal world. We just want to return home. No offence lady, but this world isn't for us. We know nothing about this place and you are always having guards follow us around. What's up with that?" Erick ranted.
"You are known as Lord Prim because of who your many times great-grandfather is. He was and still is respected among all of us. That means you and your friends will hold such a title also." Prince Jared explained. "He earned the title and it will be passed down through the family. Surely your parents would have explained that to you. The guards are to make sure you are safe."
"Sorry to disappoint you, but no one in our family holds that stupid title. Also, this is my family. This is my fiance. You people have gotten in the way of planning our wedding! Stop having the guards follow us around. It feels like we are getting stalked. That's part of the reason why Evie refuses to leave her room! She as pale as the snow." Erick exclaimed. Everyone looked towards me.
"He's got a point and Erick, they aren't going to let us go home. They want us to stay and finish what our ancestors could not. Considering our ancestors grew up in this world, they knew what they were getting into. They were able to live long lives. We are just mortal and can die rather quickly. They don't care about how we feel, they only care about themselves." I said calmly.
"I was not involvedin this." Prince Tarrant declared. His siblings glared at him. "They do have a point. You are so afraid of what could happen and trying to keep them here, you kind of neglected how it will affect them. They like their freedom and you guys are refusing to see that. I have distracted the guards several times just so they can do what they want. They aren't warriors. They have no training, well, I don't think they have a problem with physical training. They can beat each other up and laugh afterwards like it is some silly joke."
"It is a joke and I like you. You have been respectful since the beginning and therefore you have our respect. Thank you for helping us whenever you have the chance." I told him. The others nodded in agreement. "Once you have our respect, you will always have our help."
"I feel so special." He chuckled.
"Back to the ball. The ball will be to welcome you all. I will have a seamstress come and take your measurements so she can make your outfits." Queen Miranada said.
"I'm going to stop you right there. I reufse to wear anything constricting. You people really need to change your style in clothing." I said.
"Tell her what you would like and she will do so for you. The ball is in three days time. I will give you time to prepare your ideas. She'll be here within the hour." With her dismissal, we left the room.
"I know you haven't said anything, but have you noticed that your hair is a darker red, Evie?" I nodded at Adrian's question. "Your eyes are a pure silver now too. I wonder if the magic here is slowly affecting you. Do you think it will do the same to us?"
"It already is. You are changing slowly, but they are not so fast that you notice it." I informed them.
An hour past rather quickly, but we were playing hide-and-seek from the seamstress. To say the least, we've been in my room for the last thirty minutes and no one has had the sense to look in here. A gentle, but firm knock came at the door. "Come in." I yelled. Everyone snickered. Prince Tarrant then walked in. "Prince Tarrant."
"Please, just call me Tarrant. You are my equals. Anyone who has my respect calls me Tarrant. I also don't think I've ever seen a seamstress so stressed. It's funny." He said. "Also, they don't believe me that you are all in here. It's dishonor for a man to be in a lady's room."
"Yeah, well, we are family." Jenna grumbled.
"I understand that, too. Family stick together through the thick and thin. It was like that for us a long time ago, but everyone changed when the war happened. I was only a child then, but I would suggest getting to the seamstress soon so I don't get the blunt of anyone's anger."
The day of the ball came and none of was happy. Tarrant was rather grouchy from all the planning and having to play dress up. Yesterday Jenna had me cut her hair into a pixie cut and she did the same thing for me. When the queen saw what we did, she kind of flipped out, which I found it rather amusing.
"Evie! Help!" Jenna stormed into my room with her dress and three maids running behind her. "Get these people away from me. I am capable of dressing myself!"
"Ladies, do me a favor and leave my room before I lose my temper." I said firmly. They quickly ran out of the room with fear in their eyes. "I'm not that scary, am I?"
"Kind of are." Jenna said. She stripped out of her clothes after handing me her dress. She then took the dress and slipped it on. It was a simple blue-green dress that brought out her green eyes. "Can you do my make-up for me. I just want something simple." She sat down while I studied the make-up.
"It's a little odd. I don't think we ever went to a dance at school. Now we are being forced into this." I muttered. I put silver eye shadow on her and some blush. "There, not a lot of make-up, but it looks great." I tolf her.
"What are you wearing?" She asked.
"Pants and a shirt." I responded. She snorted and laughed. I stipprf out of my clothes, and Jenna whistled. "Hush you." I grabbed a white shirt with silver and gold lining. The sleeves stopped at my wrist rather tightly, but comfortably. The seamstress was very insistent on decoration on my shirt. She made a black vest with my family crest on it. Silver was the color for that. I put on black pants and tucked in my shirt. I slipped on black boots and stood up. "Let's check on the boys."
"Oh thank God you are done. All of us are done, but Erick is having trouble." Adrian exclaimed. Following him to Erick's room, I walked in without knocking. Erick was shirtless and looking annoyed.
"Help me! The shirt isn't a button up and it is way too much." He begged. I laughed and grabbed his shirt. I helped him put it on and then helped him with his jacket. His outfit was black with green embellishing. "Thanks. I could have gotten it, but the thought of being around so many people is getting to me." He said.
"Just follow my lead and everything will be okay. I'll keep the girls and boys away from you. Adrian will stay by your side all night. He will probably scare anyone off that wants to dance with you." I assured him.
"Right. Overprotective fiance." He chuckled. He slid his boots on and led the way out of the room. Adrian attached himself to his left arm firmly. "Let's get this over with."
"Indeed." I growled. I took the lead while the others followed. We met Tarrant and Prince Jared at the doors that will lead to the ballroom.
"You guys look happy." Tarrant laughed as I rolled my eyes.
"Let's get this over with. There are some people here who hates crowds and attention." I informed. He nodded and looked towards his brother. Prince Jared nodded his head towards the guards. The opened the doors. Noise in the ballroom was loud for only a moment before a man annouced our presence.
"This is going to be a long night." I heard Jonah grumble. A grunt was followed by that, so I assume that Jenna slapped him.
An hour into the ball and we were so bored. It was mostly talking and waltzing, and everyone wanted to know how good we could fight. That question was repeated often and it made me more and more ready to snap. At some point, we all got seperated, but I had a feeling Adrian and Erick managed to stay together.
"May I have this dance." A man held out his hand and I looked at it in disdain. "It's rude not to answer."
"I don't dance." I informed him. "How many times have I rejected a dance tonight." He looked at me rather surprised. "In case you haven't noticed, not once have I danced tonight. I'm here because I have no choice."
"Ball's are rather boring, aren't they. My name is Lord Drakern." He introduced.
"Evie." I said. He smiled. "If you'll excuse me, I must find my sister before she ends up killing someone." I walked off without a second glance.
It didn't take me long to find Jenna. She was surrounded by a group of women and looked desperate and ready to cry. "Jenna, darling, are you enjoying your evening?" I asked with a smirk. She glared, making her way towards me. "I apoligise ladies, but I am going to steal her for a while." They giggled. I led Jenna away from them.
"Somehow, word got around that I am lesbian." Jenna growled. I laughed. "It's not funny! Apprantly liking the same s*x is encouraged."
"At least you'll be accepted." I said. She scrunched her nose and muttered under her breath. "Let's find the others and just relax at a table."
"That sounds like a blessing." Jenna sighed happily.
We found Joseph and Neil at a table with drinks. They looked rather annoyed. When they saw us, their eyes brightened up and they came running to us. We then found Jonah, who was surround by a group of girls and boys. It seemed they were asking him a lot of questions and kept touching him. "Stay here and I'll get him."
"Evie!" Jonah exclaimed in relief. He untangled himself from the group and snatched me up in a hug. "I love you so much. Never leave me alone again!" He begged.
"Go join the group." I ordered him. He nodded. I turned to the group and narrowed my eyes. They shifted uncomfortably. "Next time when someone looks uncomfortable, you leave them alone. Do not touch him again without his permission." I turned back to my family and we began searching for Erick and Adrian.
"Oh thank God. This ball is killing me!" Adrian said as he spotted us. He dragged Erick with him. The group of people they were talking to looked offended.
"I understand. I've rejected every man that has asked me to dance. I have done a good job at advoiding conversations. I've denided questions and I am pretty sure I have offeneded quite a few people." I said. They laughed, earning a few curious looks.
"How are you guys fairing?" Tarrant asked. He looked worn out and had a few girls following him. Seeing that he need help shaking them off, I did what I always do. Save the friend in need.
"It's been quite broing actually." I took his right arm in my left and glared at the group of girls. They frowned. "Now that I have you here, I may have a interesting conversation that doesn't involve around my life." The girls walked off as I joined my group once more. They were snickering as others looked at me curiously.
"Thanks for that. My sister says I should be looking for a bride soon, but I don't see the point right now. I have forever to find a bride." I nodded in understanding and agreement. Forced marriage does not end well. I've seen it.
"Attentioin ladies and gentlemen." Queen Miranada said, getting everyone's attention. "I would like to thank you all for coming to this celebration and welcoming back our hereos." Are you kidding me, she seriously thinks we are like our ancestors? I growled, causing Tarrant to look at me in concern. "I would also like to congratulate Adrian Lassie and Erick Prim on their engagment. They're wedding will take place in six months."
"What the actual f**k?" Everyone gasped at Erick's response. Adrian stood there fuming silently. "What right do you have to annouce that? Come on Adrian, we are not staying here any longer." Jenna, Joseph, and Jonah followed them.
"What'd ya know, try to take control of their special day and anger comes out of it." I said. Everyone looked at me. "Well, I think this is over." I said. "Goodnight Tarrant." He just smiled and then glared at his family. The last thing I heard was him lecturing them. "Life is odd."
