Looming Warnings and Helping A Friend

1088 Words
The princes and queen stayed away from us the next two weeks. Tarrant is the only one who dared to come near us. "The blizzard is rather strong, don't you agree?" Jonah asked. At this time, we were the only ones up. Everyone has spread around my room, sleeping rather well. Even Tarrant has come in and taken refuge in one of the seats.     "It's a little...odd." I said.     "Angrier. It's like something bad is going to happene. Usually the snow is light and calming. I don't know how I feel about it. When I went to my room to get a book earlier, the guards had seemed a little one edge. Tarrant looks like he has been debating some things. You look like you haven't slept well."     "Just been thinking. I feel like Adrian is planning some sort of revenge on the others. Erick is still raging about the ball, but that is to be expected." The wind suddenly blew the balcony doors opened. Rushing up, Jonah slamed them close, waking everyone in the process.      "It's gotten colder in here. What was the loud noise?" Jenna tiredly asked.      "The door blew open. Jonah had to slam it shut. Tarrant, is this normal?" I asked him. He looked outside and sighed. "Tarrant?"     "No. Only during the winter season." He said. We looked at him confused. "It's the spring season. During this time, the kingdom is always calm during the snow showers. Pretty and the snowflakes look like sparkles falling on the ground. I think something bad is going to happen."      "Have you tried telling the others?" Jonah asked.     "They won't listen. SInce I am the youngest, my voice isn't often heard." He looked sad. "I'm not really worth much around here." I thought back to my depressed state yesterday. I had refused to be around anybody. I have fresh cuts across my stomach. He holds the same look on his face now like I did yesterday. He is depressed and no one has even seen it.     "How long Tarrant?" I asked him. He just looked at me confused. I saw Jenna's eyes widen, knowing what I was asking about. "How long have you been depressed and keeping it in?" Silence. "Tarrant?"     "Since they closed the castle doors three hundred years ago." He muttered. "I haven't been able to see my friends and I have no clue how they are doing."     "That's horrible. You're a prisoner in your own home." Jenna began to coo over Tarrant, who blushed in response.      "There's something else that is bothering you." I stated.      "Her motherly nature is coming out." Adrian whispered. I rolled my eyes and kneeled in front of Tarrant.     "A week before you guys came, I met with a seer without my sisters permission. She wasn't quite clear on what she said. There was something about how the Phoenix Seven will return and followed by a storm the war begins. None of it made sense."     "That is something." Joseph said. "That could mean anything though!"      "It could. I just worry though. I know the lands haven't been at peace like Miranda wants to believe. I am positive war is looming on the horizen." Tarrant said firmly. I then thought back to the day in the tattoo shop. That lady knew who we were! I then remember the warning she gave Neil before we left. She gave us all warnings.     "I believe you." He looked up in surprise. " I believe you and we will stand by your side through it all. Right guys?" I asked. They nodded.     "You guys don't seem so surprised." Tarrant said.     "Let's just say we've had a few warnings ourselves." Erick muttered. I nodded. Standing from my kneeling postion, I decided to sit on the arm of Tarrant's chair. "We have never thought about magic. It's like a story from where we are. Everyone here expects us to be these hereos, when we don't know the first thing about being one."     "I am pretty sure none of us are capable of being hereos." Neil stated.      "Right on that one." Joseph agreed.      "Tarrant, walk with me." I ordered. This is too much nagative for the poor man. He doesn't need this. He stood up and followed me out of the room. "I didn't think you need to witness where that conversation would lead."     "Is that common." He asked.     "It is. They mean good, but sometimes they go over bored." I told him.     "Why do you believe me?" He asked.     "I believe you because you are the only one that has been honest with us since we've been here. I get this feeling that we can always trust you. We don't trust easily. THat is one thing no one understands. Our families stopped caring about us, well, except Adrian's family. That's a whole different story though. My parents disowned me. They didn't like some of my choices but I didn't want to be under their control for the rest of my life. Once I took control, it angered them. That's why we get so angry with your siblings. They try to control us and we won't allow it. Tarrant, it's time for you to stand your ground. Tell them how all of this is affecting you. You aren't a child anymore."     "You guys have had a hard life. How do you do it? Not get depressed?" He inquired.     "Tarrant, they have all faced their challenges at one point or another. I am still facing my challenges, but I do not put that weight on their shoulders. I hurt myself on bad days. I don't let it hold me back though. I try to stand up and be strong for everyone around me. I don't know how ling I will face my challenges, but I know I will always be there to help my friends when they need it. That includes you now. Remember that. Now, it is rather late. We can go back and join the others or you can go to your rooms and think about what has been said." I gently said.     "I'd rather be around my friends, but let's walk a little longer." He wrapped his arm around my right and we walked in silence. My thoughts continued to repeat the warnings though. No matter how much I tried to push them away, they stayed.
