JOHN LUX was dimly aware of brilliant lights above him and of the sound of voices filled with urgency and of the touch of cold instruments here and there upon his body, but he drifted in a dreaming haze of euphoria, and it was as if these things were happening to some person other than himself.
A voice came out of the haze, a man’s, young and puzzled:
