Team work

“Come in” I invited them in as I took my bags from sir. “It’s okay dear, maybe another time. We have to prepare for dinner” Rose said smiling while Varun sir was busy in his phone. Giving her a smile, I nodded. “Thank you, sir” I said addressing sir which gained his attention. He looked up at me and nodded. “Call me Varun” He said nodding and went off to the private elevator. “Thank you Rose” I told her with a genuine smile. “You’re welcome dear. I heard you work at Mehta Industries. All the best” She said and waved bye to me and walked to the elevator. Sir- I mean Varun kept the doors open for Rose to enter and got in after her. As I saw them disappear, I opened my door placing the bags on the floor. What a weird encounter! Talk about awkwardness. Humming to myself, I put all my groceries in the fridge and some in the cupboard. After that I called mom and talked to dad for a while then started cooking dinner. Mom helped me cook my favorite dish. We had a great time gossiping about my bitchy relatives and had an emotional moment where she said she missed having me around. I miss her too. Even though at home I used to spend most of my time in my room but knowing that my parents are around me in the same house gave me a sense of comfort. I used to talk to them when I would come downstairs for food. During my job, I spent all evening after coming back from company with mom talking about anything and everything. I thought of calling Mona. I haven’t called her since I started working. She is working in an IT company too, her job is support and her client is US based so she works all night. I used to go to her house in the weekends and now I have to call her on weekends. I don’t want to disturb her so I put on Brooklyn nine-nine series on Netflix and started binge watching until I fell asleep on the couch. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On Monday, I walked inside the floor beaming with excitement. Last week was boring and intense at the same time. After that grocery store encounter, I didn’t meet Varun sir- no just Varun anywhere near the apartment building. Thank god for that. My weekend was happening though. I spent it talking to Mona and shopping. I brought so many new clothes and cosmetics. I spent Sunday night video chatting with mom and dad first and then my whole gang called me and we gossiped and chatted for hours. I miss them. Now, I’m wearing brand new clothes and I have seen all the KT videos. I have a learning knowledge about the work. So, I’m really ready to work my ass off. I don’t know, it’s always been my sort off dream to work on a project with a group of people, all fun to work with. In this team, apart from Vani everyone is great. Though Ashish is silent type but he does involve himself in the conversation. Richa, Keith and Aarav are the heart of conversation. Today after work, they said we will be going to a bar and I’m super excited. I wished everyone who came to my view and thankfully Varun was out of my sight. I like my happy mood, I don’t want him to dampen it. After I settled myself in my cabin, I set my bag aside and turned my computer on to start my day. After a while, Rahul called us. Everyone came out of their cabin and we all went to the next floor conference room where I spilled water on the company CEO. Yep, that’s the one. We all settled in our chairs waiting for the boss man, Rahul was setting up the projector. I had my phone in which I would be recording whatever they will say in the meeting. My memory is smaller than that of a goldfish so I need this recording. I don’t want to miss anything they say and look like a fool later. After 5 minutes, at exactly 9 AM Varun entered the room. We all greeted him and he greeted back. I’m still not comfortable calling him Varun as in my last job I used to call all my seniors sir just like in college I used to call the professors. I know usually in the multinational companies or more over in the IT companies, they call even the CEO with their first name. I found it weird at first and a little difficult to adjust but now I think I’m comfortable enough. I actually like how in America, they called their seniors using their last name with Mr. and Ms. prefix. The aura inside the room suddenly shifted as soon as he entered the room. Everyone can feel that dominating aura around here. I sat straighter and taller, all excited to start working on an actual high end project. The projects I worked in my last job was not that big and client were local. Ashish, Keith and Aarav explained all aspects of the project. The clients are British. Some people find their accent sexy but I don’t understand what they say half of the time, subtitles are must. Ashish explained the functional aspect while Keith explained financial point of view. Aarav explained the technical aspects of the project. It was just a brief overview but my god, it is so vast. Working on this project would make me learn so much which is exactly what I need. After the meeting, we all made ourselves at home in Rahul’s cabin discussing about the project, mainly brainstorming which was really fun. It made me feel like my ideas do matter while in my old job we were assigned the work and we had to do. Looking at the way things go around here makes my old job and old life quite boring.
