Chapter 3 Who are you?

1338 Words
"Your mother doesn't even know who your father is! Having a godmother isn't such a bad thing, is it?" Becca said without a pause as she stroked Adrian's head. "I don't care! Anyway, Mommy said she brought me back here to help me find my dad!" Adrian continued to pout. Zara laughed and then "rescued" her son from Becca's grasp. "He's shy. He'll be more perky in a few days when he gets to know you better." Becca raised her eyebrows and said, "Okay, I'll give you a day to get to know me!" Adrian hugged his mother tighter while maintaining a reluctant expression on his face. Seeing his expression, both ladies couldn't help but laugh. Becca took them back to her place. It was a modest two-bedroom apartment which was spacious enough that she had no problem living on her own. Zara and her son could fit in one room. "I bought a lot of food after I knew you were coming back. I'll make you a big dinner today!" Becca said with a smile after helping them put their luggage away. "Mommy, I'm hungry." Adrian said with a pout. "Stay here, my dear. Aunt Becca and I will go make dinner." Zara sat Adrian on the living room couch. "Okay." Adrian smiled immediately. Zara and Becca went to the kitchen to make dinner while Adrian played with the blocks in the living room. After looking around the living room, Becca elbowed Zara and whispered, "Actually, your son doesn't look much like you. I believe he resembles his father. He's a handsome little boy, so his father must be a hot guy!" After hearing Becca's words, Zara immediately remembered the man she had met at the airport. That man exuded reserve as if he was a naturally cold person. "What are you thinking, Zara?" Becca asked while raising her hand and waving it in front of Zara's eyes to get her attention. "Nothing. What did you say?" Zara quickly regained her composure. "I said…your son must look like his father who is most likely to be a handsome man." "That's nonsense! I gave him his adorable little face!" "Don't you wish his father was attractive? He had better be a thousand times hotter than Alpha Marcus." Becca later regretted saying that. She noticed Zara's face was a little downcast when she turned her head to look at her. "What's wrong? You're still not over Alpha Marcus?" "I'm over him." Zara replied nonchalantly. "That's great! He's not worth it." Becca then immediately changed the subject. "Do you want to hear the good news? I sent your resume to a company on your behalf, so you can go to work tomorrow." "What?" Zara asked, feeling amazed. "You're a famous designer now, so of course it's easy for you to find a job." Zara started working for her new company, the Bosphis Group, the next day. She moved to England from New York five years ago and enrolled in a university for interior design program after giving birth to her child. Zara entered the Bosphis Group headquarters. She was about to ask the receptionist which floor the HR department was on when she noticed a disturbing figure behind her. A tall man walked in after the security guards pushed open the door. The staff around him shivered as he appeared powerful and oppressive. Zara froze as well when she turned around and saw who the man was. Darius and his assistant, Beta Tyler, entered the president's office. "King Darius, I have the information about the woman you asked me to look into earlier," Tyler informed. Darius took a seat at the table. "Tell me," he said, giving all his attention to Tyler with his arms crossed. "Zara Nelson is her name. She moved to England to further her studies five years ago and won the International Interior Designer Award a year ago. Also, she happened to be hired as a designer for our company." Tyler took out a research file and began writing his report. "She left New York five years ago?" Darius asked. Darius remembered that the night he had just returned from abroad to become the next Alpha king five years ago. A female werewolf appeared in his room after he accidentally drank a drugged wine at the coronation. However, when he awoke the next morning, the woman had vanished. He discovered a smear of blood on the bed sheet and one of the woman's earrings. Unfortunately, she couldn't recall her face, but he could smell her body. "Even more coincidental is the fact that she was your nephew's former Luna. or, more accurately, she almost became his Luna," Beta Tyler went on. "Marcus?" Darius asked in surprised before frowning. "That's correct, Alpha. Marcus planned a coronation for her to be the Bluemoon Pack's Luna five years ago. However, someone showed some photos proving Zara had cheated on Marcus, so the coronation was canceled. She most likely went to England because she was too embarrassed to stay in New York." Tyler continued. Darius recalled his nephew's coronation five years ago, but his brother's wife did not invite anyone from their family to attend. "Could she have come here for your nephew?" "She's in the wrong place if that’s the case," Darius said solemnly. After reporting to the HR department, Zara went to the design department to meet her new boss and coworkers. She was about to sit down at her desk when the president's secretary informed her that Darius wanted to see her. Zara froze as she remembered the man she had met at the airport, Darius. She hadn't had a chance to find out who was running the company she was working on prior her first day she worked there. All she knew was that it was New York's most powerful corporation. With that, she was accompanied by the secretary to the president's office. After Zara knocked on the door, she heard a man inside said, "Please come in." For some reason, she was abruptly a little nervous. She felt a sense of oppression at the thought of his face. She took a deep breath before pushing the door open and entering. A handsome-looking man at a wide desk was looking down at a file. He looked very attractive and charming while he was working seriously. "Hello. You wanted to see me?" The man stared at her and said indifferently, "Take a seat." Zara felt his sharp gaze as if he was scrutinizing her. She timidly sat down and smiled as best as she could, making herself look composed. "Are you Zara Nelson?" the man asked. "It's me." Only then did she see that he was holding her resume. "Why did you applied for a job here?" he asked, eyes still on her resume. "I needed a big platform to develop myself, and this place could give me that opportunity," Zara answered the question perfectly, although she was surprised to hear herself answer that smoothly. The man sitting across from her examined her without making a sound. "Really? Not for some personal purpose?" he asked as if his question had a hidden meaning. Zara asked back while frowning, "You may have misunderstood me in some way. If it was because what happened that day at the..." Before she could finish, the phone on the desk rang. Darius picked up the phone, and answered. After listening to what his secretary was saying, he looked at Zara and frowned. "Send him in." Zara was hesitant to turn when a man walked in. When the guest came in, he greeted, "Uncle Darius, I've got all the photos you want." Zara froze at the sound of that familiar voice because she recognized it instantly to be Alpha Marcus. Zara was so surprised to hear Alpha Marcus’ voice that she froze. Suddenly, all the memories she had five years ago came flashing back into her mind. What happened at that coronation night was something she couldn’t forget. "Zara?" Marcus exclaimed, feeling surprised.
