The Mother

Hannah walked on the streets, her feet was almost blue, they stopped hurting from the cold, and instead they had gone numb. “Just a few more blocks” she mumbled to herself. When she walked down the streetwalker’s area, the men began to approach her, asking for her price. She just kept walking, ignoring them, folding her arms across her chest. At least the look of women walking around in night gowns weren’t a rare sight in this part of the city. She regretted that she hadn’t stolen a coat or a blanket before she left the hospital, but she just wasn’t the type that stole anything.

Finally, she arrived at the orphanage. She hesitated in front of the gate, what if the headmaster was there…… But she had promised Toby to come back… What if the headmaster had punished her troops when she had disappeared…Hannah argued back and forth a few times, but then she decided, that her troops was way more important.

Hannah opened the gate carefully and walked towards the door. Slowly, and with a ball of nervousness in her stomach she reached the door.

It was locked. Hannah began knocking on the door, no one opened it. Hannah’s heart was in her throat. She thought all sorts of things had happened to her troops.

“Wolves have been here” a female voice said out of nowhere.

“Who’s there” Hannah said out loud.

“It is me, Alina”

“Alina?” Hannah yelled

“You don’t have to shout; I can hear you through our link”

“How does our link work” Hannah asked the air.

“Just talk with me, like…” Hannah could feel Alina being thoughtful, “when you think”

“Like this” Hannah said using her mind link

“Yes exactly”

“What do you mean wolves has been here”

“I can feel them, try to see if you can pick up their scent”

Hannah Closed her eyes, trying to see if she could scent them but she couldn’t.

“I can’t scent them,” Hannah said. But no one replied.

“I must be going nuts”, she mumbled at herself.

She went to the backdoor, and found the secret key, she had used to lock the kitchen door in the mornings, and she opened the door.

When she went inside the house was dead quiet, there was no sounds at all. She ran into the office where she had seen toby on the floor. The furniture was still there, but there were no files. Toby wasn’t on the floor either, just a big red spot where he had collapsed.

All of Hannah’s senses was working on overdrive, she kept listening for the slightest sounds of the children or the headmaster, but the house was dead silent.

She ran upstairs to the dorm room.

There were no kids, Hannah called for each of the kids by their name, no one reacted. The room looked like it had been emptied in a rush. There was none of the usual personal items of the smaller ones, like the worn out teddybears or dolls. They were all gone. Hannah’s body felt weak and heavy, and she fell down on her knees, in the middle of the room between all the empty bunk beds, holding her head in her face crying.“I promised them, I was to late, I Promised them Hannah repeated over and over.”

Xander

When Xander and Toby arrived at the entrance, Xander thought he could scent lavender, like Hannah’s scent. He shook the feeling of him, Hannah was in her room, with two guards and Cammie. When he turned around the corner, he met Cammie, she had two juicebricks in her hands.

“Hello Xander” she smiled “I was just on my way to Hannah with some Juice, I had to go to the human part of the hospital, can you believe that?. She noticed Toby behind Xander “oh, hello Toby” Toby didn’t reply. “

“I am going to Hannah’s room”He stated, the he walked.

“He is not much of a talker, is he? Cammie said.

Xander just ignored her she usually talked a lot.

Suddenly he heard a growl coming from Hannahs room, and Tobys aura filling the area.

“f**k”. Xander ran the few meters ready to fight whatever it was that made Toby angry. When he was in front of the door he realised there was no guards standing in the hallway in front of the room. When he entered he saw a shifted Toby in front of Hannah’s bed and no Hannah. Toby’s anger was extreme and Xander could see that he was about to attack Cammie.

Cammie began to growl, and was about to shift, her instincts made her ready to prepare her alpha against the angry one in the room. When Toby’s wolf sprang toward Cammie Xander went in front of her, Growling at the young wolf. “ENOUGH”, Toby stopped, “Shift”Xander ordered, knowing that the alpha part of Toby would refuse, until it accepted him as superior.

“SHIFT TOBY”

After staring at Xander, Toby finally bowed down his head, recognizing Xander as superior, and shifted back.

Xander turned around towards Cammie;

“WHERE THE HELL ARE THE GUARDS?????? AND FOR HOW LONG DID YOU LEAVE HER ALONE???????” Xander roared at Cammie with his alpha voice. Toby growled.

“Luke, Christian, the hospital now, or I will throw Cammie into the darkest place of the dungeon” he said within their mindlink.

“On our way, what the hell has she done”

While they where standing there the guards came around the corner talking. “Hey, do you know why we have to guard that w***e? I heard that when they found her, she was in The House of Pleasure.”

“Well I bet she is a pleasure”

This time it was Xander that couldn’t keep his rage in, he went out and grabbed one of the guys by their throat. “What did you say?” The man couldn’t reply with Xanders hands around the throat.

“A…Alpha” the other guard said, “w….why are you here?”

Xander was starring down the other man while his hand was still around the throat of the first one. Toby had gotten some shorts from Cammie.

“Tell me, how come two guards left their post, in the middle of the day”Xander snared, showing his fangs.

“W…w…we Ju..ust went for some food at the nurses cafeteria.”

Toby’s Alpha aura was still showing and he was ready to kill the guards but Xander got in the way.

“I can feel the aura of you guys outside”Christian mindlinked Xander, “What is happening?”

“Hannah is gone, and the two i***t guards where looking at nurses instead of watching her” Xander growled his reply.

A second later both Christian and Luke was at the scene as well. Cammie didn’t say or do anything. She was way afraid of the two aggressive male alphas in front of her, even if she was a gamma, she couldn’t ignore their aura as a beta like Christian.

“Xavi, I need you to let go of the guard. You know him. He is just young and stupid.” Christian said as he realised by the sight that it was Xavi and not Xander that was in control.

“He disrespected our mate”

Both the guards had their eyes widening in fear, by the sound of the word mate. They had really screwed up by talking about the girl they were guarded. She was their future Luna.

“Xavi, they are stupid boys, I will personally punish both of them”

“You better be, or I will tear both of them apart. Xavi growled back. Xander wasn’t the type of Alpha that killed his own members and Xavi knew that.

Xander´s body relaxed a bit as the control shifted back.

“Do not come near me, for a while I am so not done with you” He growled at the Guards, Christian sent them away.

Toby was still angry and ready to jump, at the throat of the guards but one look from Xander made him control his temper, making it possible for Cammie and Luke to breathe again.

“I can’t scent other wolves in her room” Luke said

Christian stared at his phone.

“Cammie, what happened” Luke asked.

“I went to get juice, Isa said that it could be good for her energy to drink some orange juice, but there was none here so I had to go to the human area and stand in line. I didn’t know she would disappear, and the guards was here when I left” Cammie was about to cry.

“The cameras show Hannah getting up and leaving, approximately 45 minutes ago, there was no one with her.” Christian suddenly said.

“Oh no she didn’t” Cammie said.

“She didn’t what?” Luke, Christian and Xander asked her

“Well…… She kept talking about not having the money for the room, so she wanted to get a release note from Isa, but Isa wouldn’t give it to her. I even told her you owned this place.

This mate of his was going to kill him, Xander thought. He looked at Toby

“Where would Hannah go if she would leave here?”

“The orphanage, she promised to come back to us, and she always keeps her promises”

“Cammie, did you tell her the kids were safe!”

Cammie looked down at her feet, with tears on her chins. “no, she didn’t ask about them”

“For f**k sake Cammie” Xander yelled. “She is out there looking for her kids, the kids she promised to keep safe, the kids we have placed in a different home. She is a Luna! Her instincts will protect those children by any cost”

Toby began to run and so did Xander.

“Luke try to follow her scent on foot, Toby and I will go to the orphanage”Xander ordered. Xander was aware that Toby would go no matter what. Xander and Toby ran down to the car and got in. they drove, not caring for the rules of trafick or speed limits. Xander tried to feel in the matebond if Hannah in danger, but he only felt sorrow and sadness from her. He slammed the brakes in front of the orphanage and got relieved, he could scent her at the gate. He followed Toby to the back door, it was unlocked. He heard the sounds of cries that broke his heart, he ran upstairs. And there she was on her knees wearing a white and purple dress, and her golden locks spread around her head. She hadn’t seen him yet, but she must have noticed him through their matebond, her body relaxed a bit, but she was still crying. He placed his hand on her shoulder. “hey there princess, you scared me” he said softly.

“I was to late, I promised them” she cried into her hands.

“Princess you weren’t to late, they are already safe”

She looked at him with tearful, puffed eyes, and cheeks red from crying.

“They are safe?”

“Yes, all the kids are safe”

Now Toby came to stand in front of her.

“Hey Hannah”

When Hannah saw Toby, she began crying again and hugged him. “I am so so so sorry, I couldn’t save you” Her crying intensified. Toby padded her back.

“I am okay, see. “He moved his hands and head, “I am sorry I couldn’t kill him... I told you I would.”

That seemed to ignite some fire in Hannah “Toby!!! I have told you never to say such things.!!!!!”

“Where are the rest of the kids?”

“They are with my... uhm family” Xander answered vaguely.

“take me there”, Hannah tried to get up, but pain ran through her entire body.

“No, I am taking you back to the hospital” Xander said

“I need to see my troops”

“I will bring them to you, okay?”

She looked at Toby, “are they really safe”

Xander growled, he was hurt that his mate didn’t trust him on this matter.

“Every one of them” Toby said honestly and without hesitation.

“Okay then” Hannah said,

Xander carried her down to the car in bridal style and placed her on the back seat. She fell asleep even before they reached the hospital.

He carried her inside, and to her bed. He then ordered that Christian, Luke or Cammie should be by her side all the time at least until he had found her a bodyguard or two that wouldn’t leave her to have fun at the nurse’s office. He growled by the thought of them and what they had said. No one Should ever talk like that about his mate again. He knew toby would stay by her side as well, but he needed more training.
