Chapter 3 of The Gem

After placing the bandage on the leg, he helped her to slowly get up as she was still in pain. As she looked up, Jacey saw so much blood and dirt all over the guy's body. The guy carried her over to a nearby bench in the alley. As she sat down, she screamed very loudly in pain due to the state of her leg. The guy then took her to the hospital after he cleaned the blood and dirt all over the girl's body.

When they arrived at the hospital, the hospital was overcrowded with so many people. He tried so hard to find a bench in the hospital. By the Grace of God, they found a bench and had their seats. He had to wait with the girl for a few minutes as there was a long line. Suddenly, the girl felt an excruciating pain in her leg, and blood started oozing out from her nose and the sprained area on her leg. Upon seeing that, the guy quickly alerted the nurses at the hospital. The girl was quickly rushed to the operating room. Everyone in the hospital, including the guy, stood there and watched the scene as the girl was rushed to the operating room by the nurses. Everyone sat down so quietly and in shock after they left. The nurses transferred her to an operating bed and tried to calm her down before giving her a certain injection that made her doze off. They used cotton wool to clean the infected area on the leg. They cleaned all the blood from the wound. They then used an X-ray to scan and see what was in the leg. They noticed that there were signs of life in the infected area. They zoomed in and saw a huge cell eating worm in the scan of her leg. They then decide to operate on the leg. They quickly gathered the necessary tools and instruments and began the surgery. They wore face and nose masks due to the outbreak of the disease. The doctor in charge of the operation took one of the cutting tools and made a small but very deep cut in the leg. He then noticed the worm wriggling in the flesh of the leg. It tried moving deeper as it had been exposed to light. The doctor saw and used one of the instruments to pull it out, but he suffered while doing that. After the worm had been removed, there was a sudden drop in the pulse of the girl. A lot of blood began to spray because there was an issue. They sent one of the senior doctors as well as one of the junior doctors to the research department, which was in the same building just above them a few floors above them. They quickly left in order to reach the research department on time and come back to the operating room early.

When they reached the elevator, it was filled to it's capacity with people. They tried using the second elevator, but it was also filled with people. Therefore, they ran up the stairs so hurriedly that they almost fell in the process. Upon reaching the floor on which the research department was, they saw the head of the research department leaving in the elevator all the way across the hall. They ran and ran and ran, but when they were halfway there, the elevator slowly began to close. Upon seeing this, the female junior doctor removed her shoe and threw it at the elevator, so it stopped closing and opened up gradually. They quickly stopped the woman who was the head of the research department. The female junior doctor took her shoe before she reached the head of the research department. The woman asked them if they were entering the elevator or not. They nodded their heads up and down to signify yes as they were so tired from running, for it was a very big hall. Then, the woman told them to enter as the elevator was about to close. The male senior doctor's trouser fabric got stuck in between the lines on the elevator door.They tried removing it, but it didn't work so the women pulled him into the elevator. The two doctors quickly introduced themselves to the head of the research department. They had no time to exchange pleasantries as the elevator came to a stop. They briefed on the situation and the three of them quickly left to the operating room.

Meanwhile, outside the operating room in the waiting area, a fight was going down between two men. One claimed his daughter was the next to see the doctor and the other claimed that his wife was supposed to go first because she was pregnant and it was an emergency. The guy who came with Jacey decided to intervene as the two men were disturbing the peace and calmness in the hospital. Out of anger, the man who came with his pregnant threw a punch towards the guy Jacey came with. The guy missed and the guy who came with his daughter threw a punch towards him but his punch was stopped by the guy who came with Jacey. Out of anger, he taught both of them a lesson by doing something shocking. He decided to play rock paper scissors with the guys. Surprisingly, they all played together and even ended up laughing with one another. The doctor then called the guy with the daughter to go to the consultation room as he was next. He smiled at both of his new friends. After about two hours, the doctor came out of the operating room to inform the guy who came with Jacey that they were able to remove the worm in her leg but she could not make it out alive. He also said that he was sorry for the guy's loss. He did not believe it so he ran into the operating room at full speed and saw the girl breathing just fine. It turned out that she told the doctor to make it look like she had died in order to clear her name from the system and make it look like she had died so that she could start afresh and live a totally different life. She screamed in joy as she saw the guy for he was like family now. He decided to tell her the truth. He told her that he was a mercenary whose mission was to silence the gangs in the girl's neighbourhood. Out of shock, the girl tried to speak but could not. He was so happy that she was alive. He then asked the doctor how much the fee was. Out of laughter, the doctor said it was free because she just helped them in their research. Jacey and the guy could not believe what the man had said. He then told them to leave because he had other patients to tend to. They wrapped Jacey's leg with fresh bandage and made them use the exit of the hospital to leave not the entrance as so many people saw the guy crying when the bad news was delivered.

In order to avoid creating suspicion, they left the hospital through the exit wearing laboratory coats posing as workers of the research department. The guy introduced himself to Jacey by the name Steven. He told her to walk casually as there were five security cameras on the walls. This was to avoid attracting attention from bystanders.They walked casually and even had a conversation in the process. He asked her if she was hungry and told her that it had been a long day, so they should get something to eat. While talking, the guy said, " I have one left."
