Chapter 01

WEDDING

Looking at my reflection, two years didn’t last long, it’s been three months after my debut. Maybe others my age is having fun, being in a legal age screams freedom and opportunities to explore the reality of one’s dream before, but i myself will sacrifice this by getting tied into marriage.

“Darling you look fabulous! so gorgeous in that wedding dress” My mom is beside me, looking at me through the mirror

“Hija are you excited?” The same with Tita Evening, they were both here after they were done with their makeups and dresses for the wedding.

“I am” I answered

“Jeffrey you did so well, you made my baby so pretty for this special day!” mommy compliments my make up artist

“Ano kaba Ma’am Agatha, walang ka effort effort ako pagdating kay Abitha dahil ang gandang dalaga niya! i just made her feature more emphasize, she’s really pretty!” Jeffrey said

Ngayon ay tapos na ang make up ko, my nails were all done, with design such with shells, little pearls and the sea, my nails looked so pretty. My hair was styled Blown Out Curls Pinned to One Side as what my mom and tita Eve instructed the hairstylist. Everything was done.

The simple intimate, garden wedding i proposed didn’t happen, Of course having Mommy and tita Eve, they really hired a wedding planner, Got one of famous designers to create my wedding dress and of course invited people ten times my plan.

My gown was in white, highlighted with different shades of blue, it was long that the end was designed like the waves of the sea, I have a Beach wedding after all, i have pearls and diamonds as my jewelry and a tiara with stone of sapphire, cost a leg and an arm, Mommy and Tita made this wedding elegant and Expensive.

“Madàme here’s your stilettos” i was not even shocked when the stylist showed me a glass sandals, the reference inspired from Cinderella’s glass shoes.

“Mom how can you ever made this glass slipper possible?” i turned to look at my mom who’s chitchatting with tita Eve

“Darling, We want your wedding to be perfect, that glass stilettos was designed by Felipe Hauston, i personally talked to him and he really made it possible and it does really go well with your gown” My mom sweetly said

I just nodded, bumalik nalang muli ako sa pamasid sa repleksyon ko sa vanity mirror, may 30 minutes pa bago pa mag start, nandito kami ngayon sa isang private island nang mga Carson.

“Hi po mga tita” pamilyar na boses ng bestfriend ko ang narinig kong papalapit, Cassidy in her a cobalt blue Valeria Neoprene Long Dress Gown, she’s also now wearing makeup na siguradong siya din ang may gawa. My bestfriend has always been into makeup, and she looked so fabulous too.

“Cassidy you look stunning Hija” my mom hugged my bestfriend the same with tita Eve, Cassidy is familiar with them not only because she’s my bestfriend but also being the youngest daughter of the Dawsons, a multimillionaire tycoon, an acquaintance of different business tycoons such as my Parents, and the Carsons

“You both look so fabulous too titas, the beauty doesn’t fade with you two” Cassidy said, the three of them chitchat not so long that Cassidy is now beside me checking me out.

“God, you’re so gorgeous Abitha, you had the glow and the beauty is ethereal!”

I scoffed “don’t be so exaggerated Cassidy”

Natatawa naman siyang umupo sa tabi ko, “I’m not exaggerating, you’re beautiful but today i think you just hit the high top of being pretty, swerte ni soon-to-be husband ah” ngumisi pa siya

I looked at her flatly, Last night We had a bachelorette party, i never wanted it but she’s persistent or they, Lane was with her when she’s trying to make me say yes, and of course with both of them i just couldn’t say no, that night we planned to get into the clubs and get wasted but since mommy wouldn’t let me, we watched some adult movies and they teased me non stop.

“Mula kagabi kapa Cassidy ha, tigilan mo ako ngayon” i said

She’s still chuckling “Alam mo ba na nagtatampo sayo si Lane, He wanted to be a Bridesmaid too” Nakangising aso na ika ni Cassidy, i smirked at her too

“Pwede naman, kung gusto niyang mahuli siya nang Daddy niya na nakasuot ng long gown kesa mag tuxedo, malaman na ang butihing binata niya ay gusto rin nang binata”

Natawa naman nang malakas si Cassidy sa sinabi ko, well totoo naman. Lane was Cassidy’s crush before, and because Cassidy is self proclaimed 21st Century woman, she didn’t care if she would be doing the first move, ayun hinarass niya ang isa hindi ata kinaya at napaako na isa siyang prinsesa na naninirahan sa lalake niyang katawan.

“Hoy, what’s the tea at parang galak na galak kayong mga bruha?” well speaking of the Devil.

“Ikaw” sabay naming sagot namin ni Cassidy na nakapabusangot sa isa, umupo rin siya sa tabi ni Cassidy, they looked dumb trying to fit themselves in a one person sofa.

“Don’t tell me chinichika naman ako ni Cassidy, hindi parin makapag move on sa kapogian ng anyo ko at pinagnanasaan parin ako?” ngumisi si Lane, bumusangot naman ang mukha ni Cassidy

“Nakapag move on na ako ano!” agad na sagot ni Cassidy

“Talaga lang ha?” ayaw ring paawat nang bakla, ng mga segundong iyon ay akala ko bubusangot lang si Cassidy pero nang makita kong ngumisi ito ay mahina akong napatawa, alam ko na ang gagawin nito

“Pero pwede rin namang meron pa” ngumisi si Cassidy kay Lane, kitang kita ko naman ang pagkawala nang kulay nang mukha ni Lane “Gwapo gwapo mo ngayon Lane, parang gusto kitang i-kiss” taas baba na ngayon ang kilay ni Cassidy, napatalak naman si Lane at agad na tumayo

“Maghunos dili ka!” Histeryang ika niya, tumayo naman si Cassidy para sundan at tuksuhin siya.

Napatingin naman ang ibang kasamahan namin sa loob nang room na iyon, Mommy and Tita Eve stopped talking when they saw both of my bestfriends chasing each other, ang ibang make up artist at staffs ang napapatingin rin, ang iba ay natatawa, ang iba ay may paghanga.

Of course no one knows about Lane true s****l orientation, it’s just me and Cassidy, kahit kasi parents nito ay wala pang kaalam alam sa katauhan nito, Lane is not bulky like other men, he’s lean with a touch of masculinity, but still he is a handsome man, and admirers wouldn’t be avoided, nababawasan lang ito dahil palagi kaming magkasama tatlo, people believes that Lane and Cassidy has a relationship, a love-hate relationship.

“Tigilan mo ako Cassidy Delaney Dawson!”

“Ano kaba Lane Ellis Vilavito, kiss lang naman ah! hindi mo ba talaga ako pagbibigyan?”

“Mahal ang kiss ko!” pikon na pikon nang ani ni Lane, nasa magkabilang bahagi sila nang mesa, Lane was on his fighting stance and Cassidy with her boyish smirk

“Okay lang, mahal naman kita”

Natatawa naman akong nanonood sa kanila, Hours ago i wasn’t ready in the mood, i was feeling the wedding jitters. Pero dahil sa dalawang baliw ay gumaan ang pakiramdam ko.

“The wedding will start in fifteen minutes” ani nang Event coordinator, may hawak hawak itong ipad, the schedule was saved there for sure, may maliit na microphone, making her loud and clear in her every instructions at speaker na nakasabit sa beywang nito.

“Let’s proceed to the pool area” ani pa nito, agad ring nag assist sa akin ang mga staff nito. One would hold my hand to make sure to avoid any accidents, one was holding the end of my dress to make sure it won’t make me uncomfortable and the others was making sure everything is good, perfect to be exact.

When we arrived at the pool area, I gaped at what the scenery beholds, the weather was perfect for the day, it was sunny but not too hot, the pool area was never this enchanting, there’s a glass floor in the center of the pools, three pools to be exact making it a bridge to the largest pool where, i didn’t how they made it possible to cover the whole pool with glass platform, having fifty fifty chairs on each side, a blue carpet on the center and the an arc, filled with flowers, diamonds and designs so pretty.

People who have a role in the wedding was in a line, ready for their parts for the entrance. Big cameras was around the corner taking every moment filmed and photographed, as per my parents and Ezekiah’s wants

As i arrived, the see through curtains was opened, the soft piano song started to play, one by one marched with their happy faces and glee.

Until it was my turn.

As i started to step little by little, I can see everyone’s smiling faces especially my parents, tita Eve and tito Abram, Ezekiah’s parents. My bestfriends Lane and Cassidy was teary eyed, my relatives and my parents colleagues was all present, and my soon to be husband, in his black tuxedo, dashingly handsome Ezekiah Evander Carson.

He was never smiling nor sulking, his face held seriousness. As i walked slowly, memories started coming to me.

Two years ago, at sixteen I already accepted my fate, getting married to my parents expense. I had to keep up with that as what my older brothers was doing. It’s a responsibility, as a Figurua, our linage came with marriage for convenience, from my great grandparents until my parents and now mine and my older siblings.

I accepted my fate that i will be marrying a stranger, no feelings involved and only for the best of the company.

“I’m here to fetch you”

A baritone voice had me, it was my fiancé Ezekiah in his BMW

“A-ahm” i couldn’t say anything, my parents didn’t tell me about this, i’m not ready for any of this, i thought after meeting him that night was the first time and the next time would be seldom, since i expected that we wouldn’t be seeing each other the next days after that interaction.

“I want to take you out for dinner” he said again

“ah s-sige” i was hesitant but still i hop into his car. “Cassidy mauna na muna ako” paalam ko sa kaibigan ko, She smiled at me and mouthed “gwapo!” i playfully glared at her, she giggled with that.

“So Abitha How’s your day?” His voice caught me again, i looked straight through the window to avoid his eyes, I maybe calm but my insides are churning, I don’t know what to say! i’m not really social that’s why I only have few friends, an introvert very opposite to my brothers, in all i’m really akward when it comes to strangers, and this person, he might be my fiancé, still we just met.

I cleared my throat, “It’s fine” trying to avoid any hindrance to this ‘normal talk’

He chuckled when he seemed to recognize the hesitation in my voice

“You’re a Grade 11 ABM student?”

“Yes”

“And what course are you planning to take in college?”

“Business Management”

“That’s great”

“ABITHA you look so stunning anak” My father said as i arrived in the center of that glass bridge, they were waiting for me in that position to take and lead me to my groom

“Thank you dad” i smiled at my father. Mom held my hand and caressed it, her tears was very visible, “My little baby will be wed, i hope you will be happy in our chosen path for you darling” she said i nodded and smiled at her too.

We started to walk again, slowly feeling the sea breeze, the mellow music and the aura of the magical place were in. As we walk i couldn’t avoid giving gaze to everyone present, My eyes caught the scene of my eldest brother Asher Devon with his wife and their first born, They look so inlove and happy, It’s a scene, giving me hope that this arrangement, a marriage for convenience would work for me too.

Kuya Aston Dennis isn’t present, for a deep reason and it’s saddens me, but still he sent me a gift, a compensation for his absence.

I focused my gazed again infront, Where my beloved parents where they leading me, To Ezekiah Evander Carson.

Two years passed in a blink, And in that two years of being engaged with him, We became close, he was graduating that time and planning to get his masters abroad, We started hanging out, It started after he fetched me and asked me for dinner, we spent months getting to know each other, I attended his graduation too, we seldom see each other when he started his masters, we see each other during his breaks and holidays and he was my last dance, in my debut held three months ago.

“Take care of my daughter Ezekiah” My father said and gived my hand to my soon to be husband

“I will Mr. Figurua” Ezekiah answers, looking at me

“We love you so much darling” My mom whispered as she hugged me

Having held hands, Ezekiah lead me infront of the priest.

“We are gathered here today to witness the Union of Ezekiah Evander Carson and Abitha Dionne Figurua” Said the priest “If anyone here is against this Union, you may speak now or forever hold your peace”

Tahimik at huni lang nang agos nang tubig at alon ng dagat ang maririnig. I turned to look at them, with only their smiling faces they seemed to be eager to have this wedding and no sign of disagreement for this event.

The priest continued when no one dared to go against, we did the different common rituals in a wedding until, We were asked

“Ezekiah Evandor Carson do you take Abitha Dionne Figurua to be your wedded wife, to have and to hold, in richer or poorer, In sickness and in health, till death do you part?”

“I do father” he answered as he stared into my eyes

“Abitha Dionne Figurua do you take Ezekiah Evander Carson to be your wedded husband, to have and to hold, in richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, till death do you part?

I sighed silently, this is it, this is me saying goodbye to being single, in my eighteen years of life, having an engagement in sixteen, spending two years of being engaged with him and trying to know each other, this is what i have been bracing myself for.

“I do father”

The exchanging of ring was held, scripted vows was said.

“With the authority vested uppon me, I now pronounce, Ezekiah Evander Carson and Abitha Dionne Figurua Carson as now Man and Wife!” The priest announces making everyone cheer and clap in glee

“You may kiss the bride, Ezekiah” the priest said

He slowly took off my veil, getting the only hindrance out of my face, he went near me making only a inch gap between us.

“For a lifetime” he whispered and kissed me

Cheers and claps where heard in that place, with little white petals floating in the air, with a soft lips pressing mine, with promises and vows voiced out.

I hoped a future not perfect but good and happy
