Chapter 15Joan
The meal was eaten, everything cleaned up, and the dishes were in the dish washer.
“We’re off to bed, boss. See you in the morning.” Andy said to me. “I can’t wait for that ATV to get here.”
“Me, either,” said Cloud.
“Thank you for dinner, Cloud. It was great.” I smiled at them.
“You’re welcome,” she said. “Thank you for buying everything. Good night, Darlene. See you tomorrow?”
“We’ll see. Probably at some point.” Darlene was being noncommittal.
“Great. Night!” and Andy and Cloud went off to their wing of the house.
“So,” I started. “Are you staying the night?”
“Have I been asked?” She grinned at me.
“Would you stay?” I asked.
“I think we need to talk, first.”
She wanted to talk. Was that good talk or bad talk? My stomach clenched.
“All right,” I said tentative
