After getting the text about the date from Liam, she reached out to Alex’s secretary regarding the appointment she had requested, but she was told it wasn't granted.
Emma’s determination to confront Liam only became stronger after she was denied the audience. She was determined and nothing could deter her from having this conversation with him. Her mind was made up, and she didn't mind where they met. She was going to have to intervene and make him see reasons to stop causing harm to her man at all costs.
She had to do so, she couldn't continue to watch the man she loved suffer because some good-for-nothing scheming bastard had taken control over what he had toiled and labored for. She just couldn't shake off the feeling that he was behind his troubles, so she was going to have to stop whatever plans he had.
With this thought in mind, she sent him the reply to his text giving him time but leaving him with the choice of a venue. As she got ready for the date, her mind raced with possible scenarios of how the date would turn out but never did she imagine that that date would be the reason for her failed relationship with Alex.
She knew she had to tread carefully since she didn't know what he had up his sleeves. But, she just couldn't sit back and watch him crush Alex without helping. When she arrived at his chosen restaurant, Liam was already there sipping from a wine glass. Their eyes met while she was looking around for him, and he gave her a smug look.
As she took her seat, she went straight to the point. What do you want from Alex, she asked him? She had no time for pleasantries. Liam looked at her and smirked. I like them fiesty, it makes it much more fun, he said.
Emma's eyes narrowed at him, clearly not impressed with his reaction, but Liam remained unbothered and called for the waiter. Now that you are here, we should order. We wouldn't want an angel like you starving, he said to her. He's trying to flatter her, but it's not going to work, she smiled. She's determined to leave this place only after he has a change of heart, and he has promised to stop his plans.
She looked at him angrily but had nothing to say. The waiter came around, and they placed their order. They sat in silence while waiting for their food to arrive.
A call came into Liam's phone, and he excused himself to go pick up the call since it was business. Liam came in just as the food was placed on their tables. He sat down and then said to her," Please dig in. It's my treat tonight.
Emma, knowing she couldn't do anything, went ahead to eat the food while eating. Liam looked at her and smirked, knowing he had all the cards in his hands and her intervention wasn't going to deter him from his revenge plan, even if she had the look of an innocent angel and was the most beautiful woman he had ever had the pleasure of gazing upon.
After the food, Liam decided it was time to answer her question so he could douse her curiosity. He leaned back in his chair, a smug expression on his face. “I want to break him, I want him to feel all the pain she felt one after the other”, he said with clenched teeth. It took a moment for Emma to realize he had finally answered her question, the one she asked when she entered. But it only brought about more questions as she wondered why and who he was referring to and what kind of pain the person went through.
She looked up at him and asked if he was referring to the company. Is that why you want to take control of it?
Liam nodded, his eyes a mixture of determination and revenge. “Yes I do. And I would stop at nothing to get it.” He continued," I need him to understand what it means to feel helpless, to have the whole world turned against you and for him to go through the pain she went through before finally becoming depressed just like he did to my sister when he bullied her. Now she's a mess psychologically, his eyes distant, he kept tightening his hold on the wine glass till it broke.
Emma looked at him shocked at the revelation, all the anger in her dissipated like smoke. She just couldn't believe her ears. She was trying so hard to align this new information about Alex’s past with what she knew of him now. Who would have thought he had such a horrible character in the past? He looks and acts nothing like that now. Liam looked at her, he knew what she was thinking.
He said to her don't be fooled by his acts, underneath all of that facade lies the real Alex. He would stop at nothing to harm whoever he sets his mind on just for his pleasure. But, she knew she needed to act fast.
Irrespective of the reason for his revenge, she couldn't let him destroy Alex like that. She was sure all that is in the past and, although she wasn't aware of that past, she wouldn't let it destroy him like that.
She thought quickly about what to do, so she came up with a quick but brilliant plan. With all the sweetness she could muster she said to him sweetly," how about I make you a deal?"
“You leave Alex alone, and I will make sure you get a fair share of the company.”
Liam raised an eyebrow, impressed at her thinking, but he was also intrigued by how she would achieve it. “Go on,” he said.
Emma, knowing he had all the right to avenge his sister, and the number of years it had taken him to come up with a plan before setting it in motion, took a deep breath, hoping her plan would work.
"We can work out a deal, a partnership. You'll get a share of the company, and I will make sure he apologizes to your sister. Heck! I will make sure he apologizes to your whole family, just spare the company, she pleaded."
Liam leaned forward, his eyes locked on hers. "I'm listening."
Emma smiled, hoping she had made the right decision and she was making the right move. "Let's talk business, Liam. Let's make a deal that will benefit both of you."
As they continued to talk, Emma knew she was taking a risk. But she was willing to do whatever it took to protect Alex and his company. Little did she know, Liam had an ace up his sleeve, one that would change the game entirely.
