Shifting in my fabric chair with my lips wrapped around the end of my blue pen, the flash of the next slide flickers into my eyes as the projector moves to the next slide. I quickly snap out of my thought of last Saturday and carry on with my much-needed notes.
On Sunday Amanda and I went for breakfast before she said Goodbye and left to return home. I only became fully aware of how much I missed her after spending the weekend together and now that she is gone. I couldn’t admit to her that once we were going to be done with High school that I was happy we were going our separate ways. As much as I hate to deny, I did need Mandi. She’s been my best friend for as long as I can remember, and she always had a way of keeping me together. Right now I’m a mess.
I can’t stop thinking about him. About how I want his presence close to me again. Why am I longing for him… I haven’t seen him since he dropped me off. I thought he’d spend the night at our dorm on Sunday, I hope he isn’t sleeping on that awful couch in his office when he has a bed in our dorm room.
Separating from my thoughts and focussing on finishing my last notes from the bright screen once I notice the five minutes I have left until my last class for the day ends. After this class I have my tutor lesson with Daniel then I have to go over my work that we’ll cover tomorrow.
Walking into the quiet library I notice Daniel sitting at the same table we used last week. The sun from the window across glides over his hair bringing out the bright blonde hair on his head. He lifts his head and his blue eyes meet mine, his eyes inviting me to come closer and take my seat.
“Hey, how are you?” his voice deep.
While collecting my books from my bag… “I’m well thanks and you?” I hear my soft voice.
“I’m good.” He gives me a bright smile as if he’s happy to be here.
After gathering my things and ready to begin he starts a conversation.
“Do you have plans for tonight?” he asks. I’m dumbstruck, why is he interested in what I am doing. We don’t know each other like that.
“Well… I was planning on going back to my dorm and going over work for tomorrow to be on top of things.” I state.
“By the looks of things you’re already on top of things Emily.” My name sliding off his tongue like honey off a spoon.
“I wouldn’t say that..” I answer with uncertainty.
“Would you like to come out with me tonight.” His voice filled with confidence. I’m sure he never has trouble asking girls out with all that confidence.
“Uh.. uhm..” I clear my throat indicating that he caught me off guard. “I’d like that yes.” I immediately regret what I say. Is this a prank? Why else would he ask me out?
“Cool,” he smiles. “You’re probably wondering why I’m asking you to come out with me but the truth is…” he closes his eyes as if he is preparing himself to tell me a secret. “truth is, I really want to get to know you better. I think you’re cute.”
I’m cute? What the f**k this is definitely a prank then. I let out a slight laugh.
“Are you joking?” I ask.
“No, I’ll email you the address to meet up with me. We’ll go for a drink, that’s all.”
I nod trying to hide my flattered face. “Okay let’s get on with this. I have a few other things to do before meeting up with you.”
I agree and we carry on with our lesson like nothing ever happened.
After my session with Daniel, I make my way back to my dorm room processing that I have a date tonight and it’s not with my books, it’s with Daniel. What does he see in me? Why the sudden interest? Why did I even agree to this date when all I can think about is Eric? The guy who saved me in the club just last week. I wish he asked me on a date, I would’ve jumped at the opportunity.
I enter my room just to find the devil himself on his bed with his phone in his hand and an upset look on his face.
“Uh…Hi.” I croak.
He lifts his head and my heart melts at the sight of his furious eyes. He’s even more beautiful with an angry look on his face. He nods his head to my greeting.
So we’re back to this, him not speaking to me. I decide not to bother him, his clearly not in a good mood. I dump down my bag on the floor and start getting done for my date. Opening my closet I decide on what to wear. s**t, what should I wear? Grabbing my phone to text Mandi, she’ll know what to do in this situation.
Emily: I have a date tonight, what should I wear?
Amanda: With the gorgeous hunk who shares a room with you? I’d say your birthday suit.
I roll my eyes at my screen with a slight smile shoving away my thoughts say that I actually wouldn’t mind that at all.
Emily: No silly, with my Tutor.
Ten minutes later while waiting on Amanda’s reply, sitting at the end of my bed and staring into my closet I see my black thigh high boot peeping out from my other shoes and I have an excellent idea for an outfit. Sexy yet pretty I can’t help the smirk at my thoughts.
I place my boots on my bed and sashay back over to my closet choosing my black flared skirt with a white tank top, pairing it with my leather jacket. Gathering everything into my arms I pick some cute underwear as I make my way to the bathroom.
After getting dressed my phone makes a noise from the basin and I grab it quickly. It’s an email from Daniel. Taking note of the address I can’t help but recognize it to be the club so close to campus. s**t Outlaws. I have to meet him at Outlaws.
I’ve got thirty minutes left and I quickly fix my makeup, let down my long hair feeling it fall against my butt and take one last look in the mirror. I look good, and that’s without Mandi’s help. Leaving the bathroom I find my handbag shoving everything I need into it.
“Going out tonight?” he sounds shocked. I turn around to face him and I can’t help but watch his eyes scan my choice my clothing.
“Yeah…I have a date.” I answer. Normally I wouldn’t even tell anyone that but I kind of want to get his attention.
“Really? With who? Do I know this kid?” his voice stern.
“Daniel Ferguson. We’re meeting up at Outlaws.” s**t, what am I thinking, I’ve told him way too much? Then I realize that I want him to know.
“The tutor had the balls to ask you out?” he asks surprised.
“Why are you saying it like that?” I say intrigued.
“Nah, nothing. Enjoy your evening.” I feel him brushing me off as usual. I take one last glance in the mirror and head out the door to my car.
