Met Him
"Miss, table number 5!" "Miss, the bill, please!" "Miss, bring me the menu book!" A female waitress wiped the sweat that had fallen on her left temple. She hurried back and forth to the customers. "Here, ladies and gentlemen, what's the order?" she asked kindly, pen and notepad in hand. "I'll have two slices of Red Velvet, one chocolate croissant, and two shots of Americano ice full of sugar. Dear, how about your drink?" a woman asked the man beside her. "I also have two shots of Americano. The hot one." "Yes, ladies and gentlemen, your orders have been recorded. Please wait." "Thank you, Miss." She replied with a nod and a smile. She walked to the other tables, back and forth from the kitchen to the cashier. Then, from the cashier to the tables inside and outside the restaurant and cafe. Although she was tired, she never lost the smile on her face. "Rena! Pick up the order for table 6!" "Yes, Sir!" she replied from the table she had just finished cleaning. She quickly approached the door with "staff only" on it and brought a stainless tray with a black coffee. "Table number 6?" She immediately glanced at the table in question. A man in full formal attire was reading something in a folder in his hand, heeding Rena approached him and set the coffee cup down in front of him. "Here's your order, Sir." When the man looked up, Rena's breath caught for a moment. She was not used to being looked at directly like that. She quickly bowed and said, "Enjoy." She hurriedly ran back to the other table. There was a couple who still hadn't been seated, and she immediately cleared up where they had left off. At first glance, she saw someone looking suspicious. When she looked where she was facing, she seemed to be watching the man sitting at table number 6. "Do you have the menu book, Miss?" asked the newly seated woman before shaking out her long, wavy brown hair. "Yes, there is." She gave the menu in her hand. She ran off again when someone shouted for her bill. Saturday nights like this were often full of customers. The restaurant cafe where she worked was on the edge of the Idle River with clear water, and the new bridge added to the beauty of the place. This view is the target of young couples who want a comfortable and beautiful atmosphere on weekend nights. She ran off again when someone shouted for her bill. However, this situation is a scary prospect for Rena. As a waitress who has only been working for a month, she still can't adapt to this situation. She often gets scolded and orders wrong. In fact, at the beginning of her work, she got scolded more than once a day. She was frustrated and depressed, but there was nothing she could do. She had to work to pay the remaining tuition fees because the orphanage where she lived could not pay her tuition anymore, and her scholarship could only pay for books. Now, her work has started to slow down, at least for now, as the night shift waitress has arrived and taken over her hour-long job. She could breathe a sigh of relief. She sat on the chair next to the cashier's desk, then stretched her legs to relieve the fatigue. Her neatly tied hair was a little sweaty and greasy even though she washed it with shampoo almost everyday. As he looked around, the person she suspected earlier was still there. She watched his movements. When there was a queue near the entrance, there was a man looking left and right as if he was afraid of being watched. Rena saw him open a small clip containing a white powder. And her eyes widened when suddenly that man walked over and put the white powder into the drink of the man at table number 6. "Hey! What are you doing?!" Rena reflexively ran towards the man in front of her. The man quickly got up and ran away from the cafe, avoiding Rena's grasp and blending into the crowd. People looked at the situation, gawking as if they couldn't believe what had just happened. "Hey! Don't run!" Rena held her knees while panting to catch the man. Her eyes searched everywhere, but that suspicious man was gone. He slumped listlessly in front of the door. Deciding to go back inside, Rena hurried over to the table of a formally dressed visitor. "I'm sorry, sir! That man looks suspicious. He's been watching you, and now he's adding the powder to your drink!" Her breath hitched as she realized the drink had spilled all over the man's file and clothes. "Oh my! I apologize for dirtying your clothes and files, Sir! I will take responsibility!" "Lady, you hold it right there." The man seemed to be bewitched for a moment when he saw her face directly. For a split second, he watched the waitress in front of him who was panting from her run, a look of confusion and shock on her face. He stopped when he reached her deep brown eyes. He had never encountered the beauty of that pair of eyes before. Her breath was held for a moment. As Rena turned her face to another table, she blinked once. Finally, he came to his senses and grabbed a tissue, pushed the remaining powder beside the glass, and collected it. He typed something on his cell phone and spoke to someone. "Yes, I'm still here. I have a task for you." Then he switched off the phone. "Sorry, Sir. Please leave a message about what I need to pay for and replace. I have to go. I have a lot of work to do..." She hurried to leave, but her hand was held back. "Lady, take it easy. Why are you in such a hurry?" the man asked. "There are still many customers. I have to get back to work. I'm sorry, Sir." Rena pleaded with a pained face. "Nope. I'm not allowing you to go back to the kitchen." His hand tightened its grip on Rena's hand, and she groaned. "You sit in front of me." Hearing the man's order, she couldn't help but sit down too with her head down, sucking her lips inward out of guilt. "So, how did you know he was about to poison me and looked suspicious?" He ignored his body, which was still wet and sticky from the coffee that had just spilled on his clothes. "I saw he saw you, Sir. But he didn't engage you in conversation or approach you initially." "I see." He nodded, though he didn't care about what happened just now because he was more interested in this waitress. It was like he found beauty and sexiness in this woman. Did he find more beauty the further he dived? He became curious. And so, she leaned in, looking closely at Rena until the woman recoiled slightly in discomfort. Her facial features were simple at first glance, but the longer she looked, the more her beauty radiated. Who exactly is this woman? The man wondered at himself. Having had enough of admiring Rena in silence, he came up with an idea to keep this woman from going anywhere but to him. "You've spilled my drink and soiled my clothes. Let's make a bet, Miss. If it's true that this powder is poison, I'll reward you. But, if it's not, you will be punished." "I'll compensate, Sir. Don't punish me!" Rena pleaded by cupping her hands in front of her. Her panicked face looked adorable. Her cheeks were flushed, coloring her white skin up to her ears. And her perfect body, too. How could a woman like this be a waitress? He must not let his guard down. Anything beautiful was suspicious. He had experienced many fatal incidents caused by beautiful women. From spies and assassins to ordinary materialistic women, he had faced. Almost all caused him harm and loss of life. It's because of his current position that he was targeted, especially by the blond man who was a strong candidate for the head of Dark Shadow--Ronald Mario Elxy, his cousin. I'm Baron Lee, and shouldn't be the least bit suspicious of the beauty I just acquired, he muttered to himself. Because of a life full of tragedy, even a little bit of beauty was not worth it. "Sir?" Rena asked quietly. Lee looked to his right and found a tall, bald man approaching him. "Phill here, Mr. Lee," he said, surprising Rena because his voice was so deep and terrifying. "You assessed this. Do you think it's poison or salt?" Lee unwrapped the tissue in front of him, handing it to Phill. The big man immediately sniffed the white powder and frowned. Rena was dumbfounded as she touched the powder, then put it in her mouth. "M-Master, it's dangerous...." Rena was at a loss for words. Lee himself just remained calm and observed Phill's expression. At first, the man's forehead wrinkled briefly, then he replied, "I can confirm this is salt, Sir. It tastes salty too." "Wh-what?! No way! How could he be that suspicious when all he put in was salt?!" Lee just shrugged. "At the last second, he probably changed it because he knew you were watching his movements." He glanced at the floor to the left, picking up a small package with a gray powder. "And this dropped one is probably the real poison. Take this to doctor Lars' lab." Lee handed the package to Phill. "Yes, Mr. Lee." Phill nodded respectfully, leaving his master with Rena, who was still shocked by what had just happened. "Wait for tomorrow. Perhaps there is a body of an unidentified man floating in this river." "What?!" "And again, your actions were quite clever, but you guessed wrong. So, I'll give you both a reward and a punishment." "What do you mean, pu-punishment?" Rena's breath caught. Fear began to attack all her joints until they felt weak. Lee tilted his head to the left, then grinned, "A punishment you never imagined before."
