I am sitting on the snow next to the lake. On the same spot, before I went through the ice. There is a big hole there. I am still angry with my mom for forcing my dad to come to see me. He doesn't care and I don't understand why mom can't see that. I hate him for not caring, or for not looking at me the same way William does for Dandy. There is love in his eyes, but I can't see that in my father's. It all seems fake to me.
I turn to the sound of snow creak under some shoes. Mom comes behind me with an apologetic smile as she sits down next to me.
"So, it was there you fell through?" She asks and I just simply nod with a sigh as I look at the hole.
"You are lucky that Dandy was here. I don't think Andrea could have dragged you up." Mom says and I nod again, but with a hint of a smile by the thought of Dandy.
"And I am so grateful for her saving your life." She says and I can hear in her voice that she has tears in her eyes, which makes me look at her. She wraps her arm around me, holding me as she plants a kiss on the top of my head.
"You found a good friend." My mom says which makes me shrink a little as I move out of her embrace. She watches me concerned.
"D-Dandy is not really just my friend, I think." I tell her as I itch my temple a little confused. Dandy and I have not talked about it, but we must be more than friends. Because I don't think it's normal to kiss a friend and most of all to have those strong feelings I have for her. Especially when she kisses me.
"What do you mean?" She asks me, and I breathe out almost all the air in my lungs, while I try to find out how to say it.
"Umm..." I itch my head.
"I..."
"You like Dandy and Dandy likes you." My mother just shrugs and I watch her with widened eyes.
"I'm not blind, honey. And Dandy is certainly not," Her eyes widen.
"She watches, you no matter where you go. That girl really knows how to take care of you, and that makes me relax when you are not home." She says, but then her eye narrows.
"Expect from the time when you came home with bruises on your arms." Mom watches me, wondering what happened that day. I roll my eyes.
"Dandy and I play paintball sometimes." I inform her.
"Paintball?" She asks, shocked and I nod slowly.
"Now you are not allowed to be with Dandy." She says but suck at being serious. We watch each other for a moment and she burst out in laughter.
"You are horrible." I chuckle as mom hugs me again.
"I know, but you can be with Dandy as much as you want. As long you promise me," She points at me, which makes me confused.
"That you give your dad a chance." I sigh as I look away.
"I know, I know. That you don't like him, which is not how it is supposed to be. Sean is not who I wished was your father, but I look what I got." She smiles as she put my hair behind my ear.
"Yeah, yeah." I grumble.
"Don't be so grumpy. And by the way Dandy is standing on the porch watching over you," I narrow my eyes, confused as I look up to the cabin, seeing Dandy. I smile just because I know that she cares that much about me.
"She has been worried since you walked down here." She smiles as she turns to look at Dandy as well.
"You know how to pick the right one." She winks. My cheeks turn warm as I close my eyes in embarrassment.
"Mom." I whine and she just laughs at me.
"She seems great, honey." She says now. I smile at her because that is true.
"Dandy is amazing, just that no-talking-thing is worrying." I shrug, which makes my mother stroke my back.
"I know, but if that girl would ever love you, she will tell you and that with words." My mom says and I smile at that beautiful thought. Hearing her voice would be like when you find an amazing song and you know you are going to play it a million times. Before you get tired, but I don't think I would ever stop wanting to hear that voice when I first do.
"It might not feel like she is never going to say a word to you now, but the look on her face tells me she will do anything for you and she is going to use words if she has to." Mom says and her words make me feel a lot better.
"Yeah, you are right." I smile at her.
After talking with mom, I step into the cabin and find Dandy standing on the other side of the living room. My uncle is playing something on his iPad, while his wife is reading a book. Andrea is watching TV with our other cousins. While mom steps up the stairs to the second floor. Dandy is staring at me, not with a smile. Her face might seem blank to others, but I can read it.
Dandy is waiting for me, patiently for what I am going to do now. I try to hide that smile on my face, but I can't. I roll my eyes off myself for giving in. Now Dandy seems confused as she comes towards me slowly. She is standing in front of me with her hands on her back. Looking down at me, teeth clenched and narrowed hard eyes. That means only one thing.
"I'm fine." I smile at her, but then she cups my cheeks to study my face, my eyes. I roll my eyes as I chuckle. Dandy smile as approval and let me go, but I wrap my arms around her for heat. I have been sitting out in the snow for an hour. Dandy's warm arms around me make me take a deep breath of satisfaction. There is no other place I want to be than in her arms.
