Dandy is staring out the window from the kitchen table in silence. We are at her house, and there is no one here. Expect Dandy and me. She is watching the snow falling down very lightly. Her eyes are just full of sadness. I know some people don't like snow, but it seems like it makes her depressed. There can't be anyone sadder than Dandy right now. I mean, there are kids outside, running around enjoying the snow with a smile on their faces.
"Dandy?" I say worried, but she does not react.
"Dandy?" I repeat, and she watches me as I put my hand on hers.
"Come with me." I say as I stand up. She seems confused but follows me into the living room. Where I move to the front door. She can't just sit like that and look at the snow as if it is the end of the world.
"Come on." I say after taking my shoes, and she does as I say. We step out into the cold snow, listening to the three kids on the other side of the street laughing and yelling. I turn around and see Dandy staring at me. She is not smiling. She hasn't done that since it started snowing. It has been a week and it is a lot of snow on the ground.
"What is that?" I ask, pointing behind Dandy and she turns to look. I smile and run towards her to tackle her down. Dandy is finally smiling underneath me.
"Sorry." I say, but she shakes her head and I stiffen as I feel snow in the back of my neck.
"D-Dandy!" I shout irritated, by the freezing cold in my neck. She is smiling as I move off her and stand up to take the snow way. Dandy comes behind me to help. Then she stands in front of me with that tiny smile on her face.
"It's nice to see you smile again." I tell her happy, but she narrows her eyes, looking down at the ground as she clenches her teeth. She seems guilty. I cup her cheeks to make her watch me again.
"It's okay." I smile at her, and she nods. Then the light smile comes back on her face.
"Are you ever going to say anything to me?" I wonder and she seems confused.
"I mean a word or a sentence?" I say, but there is no reaction. She just watches me. I take that as a maybe.
"I hope you will. Your mother is very worried, you know," Dandy nods very lightly.
"And I really wish to hear your voice." I smile, but she just watches me. No nodding or shaking of her head. She is just standing there staring at me. I sigh aloud, disappointed.
"Do you think you will ever talk again?" I ask because she is the only one that has the answer, but she doesn't give it to me.
"Okay, I guess I just have to wait and see." I smile. I don't want her to feel more guilty than she already is. There has been so much pain and sadness in her eyes lately. It's scary to see it, even her mother is more worried than she was. William had noticed it as well, and he is the one that is the calmest. He watches his daughter for some few seconds from time to time. I don't think Dandy notice it, but I do.
I just want the old Dandy back, the smiling one, the one that beats me at paintball, the one that is staring at me and not just randomly in the air. I hope she will come back to the way she was, or even much better. It's all I want for now.
