16. If that is dad, I will never speak to you again

653 Words
It's Christmas day and I have open most of my gifts, but not the one from my mother, because it was not under the tree. I haven't asked her. It might make me sound greedy, but I am sitting on the couch watching her as she is reading one of her books. "What is honey?" She asks, noticing that I am staring at her. "Nothing." I answer while shaking my head. Then there is a knock on the front door. I watch my mom confused, because who comes for a visit on Christmas day. Mom watches me with a raised eyebrow, waiting for me to open up. "If that is dad, I will never speak to you again." I warn, but she just rolls her eyes. "No, it's your present." She smiles. "My dad is my gift?" I ask and she laughs lightly as she shakes her head. "No, just open the door." She chuckles and I smile as I get out of the couch. Wondering why my present is outside knocking on the door. I open it and Dandy stands there smiling. "Oh my god!" I say surprised as she holds up a little black kitten. She hands the black one over to me and I hold the soft little one in my hands. "It's so cute." I tell and nuzzle it as I step back into the living room with Dandy following me. "What's its name?" I ask as I let the restless tiny cat on the floor. "You can call him whatever you like to." Mom says as I watch the kitten sniffing around the living room. Dandy is standing quietly, smiling at me. "What do you think I should name him?" I ask her and she shrugs. I roll my eyes. "Thank you, for your help." I say, and she smiles sorry. "I have to think about it then," I say as I follow the nameless kitten up the stairs. That is one curious cat and so adorable. His eyes are blue and its fur is short but very soft. It runs around, cute as it can be, with his tiny paws. I open my bedroom door and he steps into my mess and jumps around on the boxes that I should have cleaned up months ago. Dandy comes in the door behind me and I turn to her. "Thank you." I smile since she brought him here. Dandy nods as she is staring at me. "Aren't you going to go home to your family? Since its Christmas?" I ask, but she shakes her head. "Okay." I say as I pick up the kitten and lay down on the bed. Watching him trying to find a comfortable place. Dandy lies down next to me and the kitten finally finds a good place to lie with its head on his legs. I turn to watch Dandy for a while as she is studying me. "Do you look forward to coming with me to the cabin?" I ask. We always go to our family cabin after Christmas. Where mom and I meet most of my family and I wondered if Dandy wanted to come. She smiled and nodded right away. At least it gets more fun with her. It's always a nightmare with most of my family in one place. My uncle Joe and his wife are so old-fashioned. That it is terrifying to be alone with one of them. They have two kids around our age, but they are such snobs. His son and daughter, Ryan and Nina. Those two are worse than Andrea and that says a lot. Dandy nods with a smile, even though I have warned her about my weird family. She wants to come. Can't be happier that she is coming with mom and me. I need Dandy for this nightmare. She is the only one that can make me smile when something awful is happening.
