Chapter 4: The order
Lyra stared blankly at the doctor in shock trying to comprehend what she had just heard. She was over two months pregnant, but how?
Her mind thrifted back to the night she shared with her husband Lucian before he disappeared for months. She remembered everything that had happened between them that night.
How could she possibly forget the most amazing and exciting night of her marriage life? Lucian had come into the room and as though possessed by a different being and was all gentle, romantic and wouldn’t take his hands off her cleavage even for a minute
Lyra had thought the man she'd always been in love with had finally consented to giving their marriage a chance, hence she gladly embraced and welcomed the feelings when he caressed and took her virginity that night.
Lucian didn't stop there, as he went on and made sweet passionate love to her throughout the night like a s*x-starved man. It wasn't until the early hours of the morning did he finally let go of her and she drifted into a deep slumber in the embrace of her beloved husband only to be awakened to an empty bed in the afternoon.
But she didn't think much of it at the time as she knew he had responsibilities at the office. It was only when he didn't come home for days and wouldn't take her calls that she became worried that something may have happened to him
But that thought was quickly tossed aside when he sent her a message stating he traveled out of the country for a business deal and wouldn't be able to take her calls for the main time.
Lyra felt arms encircling her, only then did she realize she had been crying all along and the doctor had long left the room
“Shush… it's okay. You can cry as much as you want, but I need you to know that I'll always be here for you no matter what “ Alice consoled her Friend as she cried alongside Lyra
She couldn't fathom why Lyra had to go through this much all alone
Lyra held onto Alice and lamented on controllably “What do I do now Alice? Lucian doesn't want to see me anymore, what do I do now?” She cried as her hand moved to her stomach protectively
Why was fate being so cruel to her? She hadn't even gotten used to the fact that she was thrown out of her husband's house and was now divorced. And now she was pregnant with a child whose father wouldn't acknowledge.
For an amount of time, both friends just sat in each other's embrace and cried their hearts out. No one said a word, all they did was just cry
“ So what have you decided to do?” Alice asked as she wiped away Lyra's tears
“ I've decided to keep the baby. I can't bring myself to hurt him” Lyra said as she caressed her invisible baby bump “ I'll go see Lucian and inform him. I hope he's no longer angry and listens to me”
Alice hummed at Lyra's response deep in thought when suddenly an idea struck her
“Isn’t Grandma Helena supposed to return to the country tomorrow?”
“Yes” Lyra answered, still not gotten a clue why she asked
Alice smiled in relief “ How about you go meet Grandma and inform her about the pregnancy and everything that had happened while she was away? She'll talk sense into those two, and Lucian wouldn't dare to defile Grandma Helena.”
Lyra looked at Alice hopefully “You think so? What if Lucian gets angry at me for reporting him to his grandmother?” She was scared to worsen their relationship further than it already was
Alice placed both her hands on her shoulder firmly and turned her around so she was facing her “You worry too much dear. You didn't do anything they accused you of. And who's in the better position to prove your innocence if not Grandma Helena?”
Lyra nodded her head in understanding and hugged Alice “Thank you so much. I wonder what I'd do if you weren't with me”
“You don't have to worry about that. Just get some rest and we'll go see Grandma tomorrow and everything will return to normal.” She smiled warmly at her friend
Unknown to the duo, an unfamiliar man in a mask had been eavesdropping on their conversation from the onset
He looked at the dou one more time before stepping out of the hospital. He took out his phone, dialed a number, and placed it on his ears waiting for the person on the other end to receive his call
“It's like you suspected boss. She's pregnant and is planning to visit Madam Rodriguez tomorrow “
“Hmmm” the person on the other end hummed, walking to and fro in the dimly lit room as though deep in thought before responding
“ You know what to do. Make sure you kill her and that bastard before she gets to meet with Madame Rodriguez and ruin my plans”
“Yes boss”
“ Make sure you do a smooth job and not leave any traces behind. Kill her at all cost.”
The next morning after being discharged from the hospital, Lyra boarded a taxi to the Rodriguez residence after she had spent the whole night convincing Alice that she could go alone
“Sir you've taken the wrong turn, this isn't where I'm headed” Lyra became agitated when the driver blatantly ignored her
Fear engulfed her when he suddenly stopped the car on the lonely road. He stepped out and walked over to her side in the back seat and forcefully tied her hand and stuffed a cloth into her mouth to silence her shouts for help
Lyra’s heart was filled with fear and all her struggles were in vain as the driver got into the car and moved further into the deserted road
“ If you were this scared, then you shouldn't have messed with the Rodriguez of all people. Don't hold too much grudge against me while you journey to the after world as I am only doing my job.”
After saying that he stepped out of the car and walked a few distance
Lyra’s panic heightened when she was almost blinded by a bright light radiating from her side. Just in time to look at it, she noticed it was a truck aiming at her car and in the next second it crashed into the taxi sending them across the road
Having lost the battle, Lyra’s eyes shut closed as blood continued to gush out of her head.
