An awkward silence stretched around them. Alaric remained seated on the edge of the bed while Roxie stood with her arms still wrapped around her middle, watching him. Waiting. Any lingering high the man might have had was long gone, and Roxie could swear she could hear the wheels of his brain turn over and over again like he was faced with an impossible problem with no solution. Frankly speaking, Roxie expected him to stand and storm out any second now. It’s what the man did every time the situation didn’t play according to his liking.
