Chapter1
Jenna’s POV
“Congratulations Jen!” Linda said to me as she held out her glass. I tipped the rim of my glass towards hers and it clinked.
“Cheers,” I said with a wild smile and she looked around.
“You are doing so well for yourself, Jen, You have it all. A lovely marriage, popular art pieces, and a superb gallery. What do you not have?” Linda asked me and I gave a small smile.
My life hasn't always been good. Contrary to what people think, I have had it tough but well, it has all been good since Kia and I got married finally a year ago. He is more than a husband to me, he is my support system.
“Mrs Jenna Storm?” I heard my name and turned to see a British businessman walking towards me.
“Linda, I will talk to you soon. I have to discuss something with Mr. Smith.” I gave her a side hug and she smiled,
“It's okay. I'll check some of the artwork out again”
“Or you can check some guys out” I winked at her before walking away and she giggled,
“Never!” She yelled back and I burst into laughter.
Linda was a friend from high school, we did everything together including going for the same course which was art. I couldn’t believe it when we realized she had the same interest as me. I decided to stop being an artist and become an Art piece Curator, most of the people in my year wondered if I was crazy then.
As for Linda, she did more of designing clothes now, a very sweet girl. I don't understand why she hasn't taken an interest in any guy yet. She's been single since I can remember.
“Hello, Mr. Smith. Hope you are enjoying your evening?” I asked and he nodded.
“It's been a wonderful evening and I love the art pieces I am seeing here. You know, it was my wife that convinced me to come to check out your art gallery. I really am not interested in art, but after your exhibition, I think I might become a regular client here, not just for my wife who is obsessed with paint works, but for myself as well. I must commend you. You have done a superb job.” He said and my heart swelled with gratitude.
This was what I had worked for all these years. To be able to hear me tell me how my hard work had paid off. The Gallery was doing well on its first opening and I couldn’t be more thankful.
I felt a hand go around my waist and a kiss on my left cheek, “Hi Baby” my husband whispered and I relaxed in his arms.
“And it’s all thanks to my dearest husband here who had given me this as an anniversary gift,” I turned to kiss him too. I removed his hands from my waist and locked his arms in mine,
“Mr. Smith, meet my husband, Malakai Storm. Kai, Mr. Smith is a Businessman, and his wife and I worked together when I was a curator for Tees art gallery.” I said and Kai shook hands with Mr. Smith.
“Pleasure to meet you, Mr. Smith, I hope you like the work that was put in here?” Kai asked and Mr. Smith nodded.
“I am, In fact, I have become an avid fan of art after visiting this art gallery,” He said and Kai nodded his hands and locked his palms with mine.
“I am proud of what my wife has done here. I am even happier because today is our wedding anniversary. We would have double things to celebrate on this day in the future.” Kai said, looking at me affectionately.
I smiled, shaking my head; he was the one I should be thanking for this lovely gift. Kia is a very nice man, caring, sweet, and loving towards me, so accommodating as well.
“You both look so good together and happy. It reminds me of myself when I newly married my wife 30 years ago. We were just like you both,” Mr. Smith said as he focused his attention on Kai.
“I heard you have your own company. What sector of business are you in? We could arrange a meeting. I am looking for a company to invest in America.” He said and I exchanged a look with Kai.
Kai looked at him and they both started walking away, both discussing with each other.
“Do you have any idea who Mr. Smith is?” One of my other friends asked as I sipped from my wine glass. The Art gallery had been a wedding gift from Kai, and I couldn’t be even more grateful.
“I have worked with his wife at my former gallery while I was the curator there. But I have no idea what her husband does,” I said and she looked at me.
“He is one of the big shots Investment gurus in Europe. It’s a big deal if he is trying to negotiate a business deal with Kai.” She responded happily, making my eyes wide. I really hope they click and work together.
I looked back at them and saw them laughing together, I didn’t know what was making them laugh but I smiled. As long as Kia was happy, I was too. He was my dream come true. I looked around the gallery and the satisfaction and look of approval I had gotten from people was superb.
The microphone clinked and I saw Kai climb the podium,
“Good evening everybody, I am Malakai Storm, the husband to the woman of the day,” I blushed at his words, “Allow me to introduce to you the reason behind why we are all here, my beautiful wife, Jenna Storm,”
As I walked on stage to meet him, the applause was so loud that my heart swelled with joy. When I got to him, he stretched his hand for me to take which I did without a second thought.
“Well, as you all know, I have always loved Jenna’s paintings. People in our circle know. So I wanted to present her a gift that would be very meaningful to her after she opens her own gallery. I wondered what the perfect gift would be, so I thought long and hard.” He said and I looked at him wondering where he was heading with this. Was he planning to give me another gift after this whole gallery? It’s just our first year and I only got him a necklace.
“And I found the perfect gift,” He announced with a wide smile before making his way to get what it was. He came back with a painting, and when he got close, I gasped in awe when I saw what it was.
It was my first painting after graduation from art school, and I heard it had been sold out.
“Malakai,” I whispered as I was shut out of words and he kissed me.
“You deserve it and more, my love.” He said and I looked at the crowd with good eyes.
“This was the first painting my wife did after graduation from art school. And it had been sold off under a pseudonym. I found that it was under auction outside the country, so I purchased it back for her, to motivate her to keep being good at what she does,” Malakai explained and the guests clapped.
After a few words from me, words of appreciation to my friends and family, especially my husband, Kai, the occasion came to an end.
Malakai continued talking to people and my secretary informed me that new paintings had arrived. I intended to see them before hanging them in the Art hallway, so I went to my office.
I started opening the paintings, but an envelope stood out. I opened the envelope and there was a letter in it.
“Open the painting with a red curtain draped over it.” It said, and I smiled, believing that it was another prank of Malakai, another gift.
I removed the drape of the painting and saw that it was still wrapped with brown wrapping paper. I hurriedly used a paper knife to open it. As soon as I opened it, I staggered back in shock.
“Hey baby, most of the guests have gone already. What is--” Kai was saying and he stopped in his tracks.
“Malakai...” I whispered not looking at Malakai but at the frame. A frame of my husband naked with another woman.
