Five years later
Malakai’s POV.
“And that brings us to the end of today’s board meeting. Mr Kai, what do you think of the new product we are about to launch?” One of the board members asked and I looked at the projector.
“As long as it makes customers happy and it fulfills the goal of making money and expanding our global domination, I do not have a problem with it. I have already gone over the product review with the production team.
Marketing Team One would be taking care of all the hiring of Models, and Advert shoots, while Marketing Team Two should prepare to hire influencers that would make use of the internet for internet Advertisement. That way we can ensure a successful takeover when the product launches.” I said and they nodded.
“That being said, are there further projects I need to review or look over?” I asked and they shook their heads.
“Speak before I fire someone,”
“No sir!” They all spoke out.
“Very well. I will take my leave now. See you at the next meeting.” I walked out, my secretary walking behind me.
“Sir, you have a meeting with people from Smith Investment,” he said and I nodded.
“Where are they?” I asked.
“In the second meeting room,” he replied and I nodded. I walked towards the second meeting room.
This was typically how my day went, ever since the divorce with Jenna. It was only to get away from the sea of regret that had tried to drown me.
I remembered searching for her so many times after our divorce, just so she could see how sincerely sorry I was about my actions towards her, but I was never able to find her.
It was like she had disappeared off the face of the earth. Linda, I had gone to visit her only to be given a letter that Jenna had left for me in case I came back. Because she knew I would.
I had gone over and over again looking for her, my heart couldn't take it. Business went down, and friends and family tried all they could to take it off me but nothing was working. It was like my entire world crumbled and even when I had promised never to go back to her, I found myself searching.
Not until Linda showed me the letter. That letter turned me into a workaholic, a cold boss who cares about nothing else but his business. A man that doesn't even want to see a woman let alone be in the same space with one.
They were all liars, heartless and wicked. Jenna opened my eyes to see that there was more inside if I put myself to it and I did. I buried myself in work and now, I have become one of the richest bachelors in New York, with my company expanding all over the world.
I stepped into the meeting room and the meeting immediately started. The investment meeting with Mr Smith ended well, and he agreed to invest in our new product.
It was supposed to be our victory, Jen and I, and not just mine. A bitter smile spread on my lips as I recall how I had met Mr. Smith in the first place.
“Congratulations, Mr Malakai,”
“Congratulations to you too, Mr Smith,” I shook hands with him.
“You're a good man. I know you are” he said causing me to furrow my brows but later smiled
“Thank you, Mr Smith,” I forced out a smile.
I can't even recall the last time I had a proper smile, my life turned 360 degrees the moment I signed those divorce papers. I can't remember how it feels to be happy, I just… can't.
My phone began to ring so I brought it out of my pocket to answer the call,
“Sir, I hope you haven't forgotten that you have a flight at 3 pm.” My secretary asked and I looked at my watch. It was 25 minutes past two.
“Thanks for the reminder. Call up my house, and have them bring my suitcase to the Airport. I will be there waiting for you and the suitcase.”
I ended the call. I had a business meeting in Los Angeles, so I had to fly out today.
“It's nice to have you come around, Mr. Smith. I'll be leaving before you, I have a flight to catch”
“That's okay, Malakai, we will be hearing from each other” he shook hands with me again.
“We will,” I replied and finally left. I made my way straight to the airport. My luggage was already at the airport making everything less stressful for me.
I got to Los Angeles late at night when I got a call,
“Sir, welcome to Los Angeles. I'll call Principal Matthew and let him know that you have arrived”
“Noted Chris. Please also tell Mr. Matthew that I do not want to stay long in Los Angeles as I still have business waiting for me back in New York” I informed
“Yes sir,” he replied then hung up.
I rested my head on the chair in the car and closed my eyes. The quiet sound of the music calmed my heart a bit. I don't know why I was angry, it has always been like that. Always angry and pissed about nothing in particular.
Finally, I got out of the car and made my way to the hotel, I booked a room,
“A night,” I said to the receptionist whose eyes never left my face even while she was getting the keys to my room.
“Here you go, sir,” she handed over the key to me, brushing her fingers on mine deliberately. I glared at her as I withdrew my hand, a growl on my face as I walked away
“I hate women. Desperate bitches” I murmured under my breath. I can't wait to be done and get out of here.
Just as I opened the door, I got a call,
“Mr Malakai, Good evening, heard you're in Los Angeles already”
Ah, that should be the principal.
“Yes, I am, Mr. Matthew,” I replied as I shut the door behind me and took off my shoes.
“I hope Los Angeles is treating you well?”
Do you wish?! If stares could kill, I would have died by now. I inwardly complained.
“It wouldn't matter as I would be leaving tomorrow after the meeting. Chris must have explained that to you, I presume”
“He actually did,” Mr. Matthew replied, “That was the reason I called, are you sure you don't want to leave Los Angeles? You can spend three to four days more. You might see more businesses to invest in” he tried to persuade me but I wasn't falling for that.
“I have work, Mr. Matthew”
“What about the club? Bars, and casinos? We have the best casino in Los Angeles”
And I narrowed my eyes, why did he sound like someone who had been asked to do all these? And I have two people in mind that will make him do this. Mother and Father.
“Mr. Matthew, if we don't go back to the main reason I had come to Los Angeles in the first place, I might just leave back to New York, tonight”
“Ah… I'll be at the office by 8 am tomorrow, Chris will come pick you up from the hotel by 9 am. Do have a lovely night, Mr. Malakai.”
“Hm,” I replied before ending the call.
