Prologue - Nadine “I know the child you are expecting is mine.” … Hi? Welcome to my hopeless story... An ironic story of someone with a name that meant hope. Yet, hope was the last thing I had as I stared at his cognac eyes, while his mesmerizing gaze pulled me right into them. The Siren Coast Resorts’ CEO wasn't someone I could run away from as his deep set of eyes seemed able to read even my soul. But, maybe, it would be better to go back a little bit… explain how I got myself into this situation… “Charming, right? He’s my oldest grandson. But, don't fall for him! I don't need to lose another nice girl to Haeyang again.” … Perhaps, I should begin here, with Grandma Yunjun’s words. It was the first time I was officially meeting her grandson, and her words hit me right in the guts as I recalled the positive test left in my bathroom as I rushed on my way out in the morning, so I wouldn't arrive late on my first day. She was a kind old lady, owner of the resort where I worked, but even so, it didn't make it any easier to think how I could tell her that I already knew him… The man who she forbade me from falling for, and who was the father of the baby growing in my belly. I have no doubts it shouldn't last longer than a couple of arguments between a grandma and her grandson. However, I couldn't say the same about myself. I could not lose this job. If it's okay for me to go back a little more, rewind things up. It might be easier to understand how it all started. I, Nadine Remington, am just an ordinary worker at the Siren Coast Resort. One of several thousands of them among seven franchises of the brand. The payment is not bad, and I wouldn’t complain about the work, but a curiosity about the place I worked was… it was their owner's favorite location. Grandma Yunjun was a sweet old lady, yet a little peculiar, who would make us all call her grandma instead of a boss or anything else while telling stories from when she moved to America with her daughter during Korean, which both were far too young to have experienced. Or, at least, it was what others would tell me as until that day, I had actually never talked with her before. She was several steps ahead of me in the Resort’s hierarchy as its owner. So, I never imagined that it was possible to happen someday in any of my dreams. Yet, there I was… Standing before Grandma Yunjun. … She thanked me with a kind smile, leaving me speechless after I helped her, leading to the following events of the evening… “As thank you, let me invite you to the party, my grandchildren will be hosting later. Don't worry about invitations, just bring your partner or friend to enjoy it with you and tell them my name when you arrive.” My first reaction was to reject her. Say I shouldn't go! I didn't feel unfit but I also didn't have the appropriate clothes for it. “Don’t worry about it. They’re having a costume party today, so put on some cute makeup, some random furry ears or tail, and you are ready to join them.” However, she wasn't easy to convince against it, so I could only accept my fate. Consequently, growing a happy glow in David’s eyes. My single-dad friend was more excited about it all than me, telling me how this night could change my life, and oh, God! He had no idea how correct he was when he told me such words, doing his best to help me with my few options of clothes and random pieces of accessories that his mother let me borrow… “Don’t forget your mask, Juliet. It's the final touch. So, no one can say that you are not appropriately dressed for the occasion.” “Juliet? As the one from Romeo and Juliet?” “And, there is another besides her, Juliet?” helping me tie the mask, his sassy mood was so him that it no longer surprised me. “Stop calling me that. Romeo and Juliet both die at the end, I don't need their bad luck along with mine to make things go even worse.” … no matter how nice this surprise was, not everyone could be as luckiest as Cinderella, living in a fairytale… But, how was it possible that all those thoughts left my mind when our eyes met through the aquarium glass? He was the same guest I had met at the pool two days ago… My shift was almost done, and I was just picking up the forgot towels at the pool area with no one around when he suddenly came out of the water. … his wet body seemed to shine under sunlight as the drops of water ran down on his skin, and his dark hair pushed to the side reflected everything around as a piece of marble… He was the most handsome man I had seen in my whole life. My heartbeat went crazy with emotions, delighted to come across him again, and biting my lips, I dreamed about a possible chance of getting the chance to speak with him… Be part of his world for a little bit, even if it was just for one night. And, as he approached with glasses of champagne in his hands, I thought my heart would stop beating at such a moment that was like a dream come true. I was anxious while also so eager to speak with him as I took the cold glass in my hands, unsure of what I should do next as I looked up at him…. I was fully charmed by that man, unaware he was Grandma Yunjun’s oldest grandson… That he was Haeyang Han… the man who was coming back to take over the resort… who was coming back to assume his grandma's position as Siren Group’s CEO.
