The Ball

While she was finding herself in the ballroom, she knew that she had to be careful and not attract any unwanted attention. She tried to blend in with the crowd, watching the guests from afar and listening to their conversations. She was looking all over the room for only one thing. The artifact. The room was full of well-dressed people who were talking and dancing together. As she walked carefully through them she saw it. The artifact was sitting on display in a glass case. She couldn't believe her luck. But how should she take it? She didn't know. She stared at it for some minutes, lost in thought of convincing a plan. As she stood there, she felt a presence beside her. Turning her head, she saw a boy standing next to her, his eyes also fixed upon the artifact. He was tall and good looking, with tousled blonde hair and bright blue eyes that sparkled in the light."Beautiful, isn't it?" he said, his voice soft and gentle.Lyra nodded, unable to take her eyes off the artifact. "Yes, it is. I have never seen any artifact as beautiful as this one is." The boy smiled. "Don't be silly, I know why you're here. Lyra, right?". Lyra's mind blew a second. "How do you know my name?". "Some questions are better not to be asked" said the boy. "Yeah, however, can I help you with something or you just don't have who to talk to?". Lyra started to be a bit mean, because she knew she had to concentrate and she didn't want anything to get her attention. "Don't be so mean. I m Lucas. I saw you alone here and I wanted to talk to you and maybe become your..friend". Lyra rolled her eyes. "I don't have time for this" said her. "Come on, distress yourself a little, may I take you to the dance ring?".Lyra was hesitant at first, but then she realized that this could be a good opportunity to keep her cover. They danced together, and Lyra couldn't help but notice how charming Lucas was. He was kind, funny, and seemed genuinely interested in her. She started to forget about her mission and just enjoyed the moment. Lyra and Lucas glided across the dance floor, their bodies moving in perfect harmony with the music. Lucas's strong arms held her close, and she could feel the warmth of his breath on her neck. She had never felt so alive, so free, so... happy. As they danced, Lyra couldn't help but notice how gentle Lucas was with her. He seemed to sense her every move before she even made it, and he always knew exactly where to place his hands to guide her through the steps. She felt safe with him, protected, as if nothing could harm her as long as he was by her side. But as the dance went on, Lyra started to feel something else, something she had never felt before. She felt a warmth spreading through her, a fluttering in her stomach, a longing that she couldn't quite put into words. She tried to push it away, to ignore it, but it was too strong, too overpowering. And then, just as suddenly as it had come, the feeling was gone. Lyra pulled away from Lucas, her heart racing, her mind in turmoil. She couldn't let herself get too close, couldn't let herself fall for him, no matter how much she wanted to.She couldn't let herself get lost again when she had a mission to achieve. She knew that the last time she did it she failed the mission and she didn't want it to happen again.Lucas looked at her, concern etched on his face. "Is everything okay?" he asked, his blue eyes searching hers.Lyra nodded, trying to force a smile. "Yes, everything's fine. I just... I need some air". And with that, she turned and walked away, leaving Lucas standing alone on the dance floor. She knew she had hurt him, knew that he didn't understand why she was pushing him away. But she couldn't help it. She couldn't let herself get too close, not when she knew how easily she could get burned. She went outside to take a deep breath and refocus her mind on why, in fact, she is there and what she should do. She went back into the ballroom. As she entered the room, she quickly assessed the situation. There were two guards stationed near the artifact, and several more patrolling the room. She knew she had to act fast if she wanted to retrieve the artifact and get out of there alive.Lyra made a plan in her head and started to execute it. She waited for the guards to be distracted by the music and then made her move. She swiftly moved towards the artifact, breaking the glass case, but she was spotted by one of the guards. The alarm was sounded, and the guardians started to attack her.Lyra drew her sword and began to fight back. She was skilled in sword fighting, but the guardians were too many. She was starting to get overwhelmed when she saw Lucas coming. He had come to help her. Together they fought off the guardians, and Lyra was able to retrieve the artifact. But as they made their way out of the room, they were ambushed by more guardians.Lyra and Lucas fought with all their might, but they were outnumbered. Just as they thought they were going to be captured, Lyra threw her sword into the chandelier and quickly got out from under it, taking Lucas with her and they could escape. They were safe, but Lyra had been hurt by one of the guardians.Lucas helped her to her feet and supported her as they made their way out of the ballroom. Lyra's wound was deep, and she was losing a lot of blood. She knew that they had to get out of there quickly. As they made their way out of the ballroom, Lyra turned to Lucas. "Thank you," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.Lucas smiled at her. "I'll always be here to help you," he said. Lyra knew that she couldn't let herself get too close, but she also knew that she couldn't do this alone. Even if she was the bravest and agilest heroine, sometimes she needed some help too. With Lucas by her side, she felt like anything was possible. "How do you know to fight that well?" asked Lyra. "You've seen me fighting before, Lyra..". And once again her mind was blowing again. He was a mysterious boy. But from all the blood she lost she couldn't answer and she fainted.
