I already had a good idea of the things Cole was going to ask. I knew my brother well enough, but not only that, they were concerns I shared as well. The answers seemed logical enough, but what if we weren’t all on the same page?
Even if Nica didn’t want to live with us yet, we were still going to have to sell our house. There would be nights that the baby was with us, and even if they were sleeping in a bassinet by the bed, eventually they would outgrow it and need a crib. Eventually they would need their own room. Which would mean either Cole and I would have to share a room, even when Nica wasn’t there, or we would have to get a bigger house. I wasn’t going to point that out to Cole yet though, he had been spiraling enough as it was. Nica had been able to ground him temporarily last night, but that had been a different topic. Plus I was sure it didn’t take long after she finished before his thoughts were right back to where they were now. Especially since she was the only one that finished.
Of course, I’d gotten my own moment alone with her this morning. I’d woken up to her on her stomach, lying on my arm. In my attempt to carefully ease it out from under her, I’d accidentally woken her up. “I’m sorry,” I whispered as she blinked at me, then rubbed sleep from her eyes.
“Good morning,” she yawned, causing me to yawn too.
We shared a slow, sleepy kiss, and I wrapped my arm around her, pulling her across the mattress to me. A soft squeal of delight was muffled against my lips. I turned onto my back, pulling her with me so she was on top of me. She hummed softly, breaking the kiss so she could trail her lips along my jaw and down my neck.
When we’d went to bed, I had stripped down to my boxers. Nica still wore her sweater, but had taken her leggings off. I was hyper aware of that detail as her kisses moved further down, across my chest and down my stomach. She all but disappeared beneath the blanket.
“Nica…” my breath caught as her hand cupped me through the thin fabric of my boxers. Her lips moved in a line just above the waistband. She slowly stroked me, her fingertips sliding between the fabric and just barely grazing me.
She shifted slightly, causing the blanket to fall further over her as she withdrew her hand.
I couldn’t help the small groan of disappointment. Quickly though, her fingers were at my waistband and she was tugging my boxers down. I lifted my hips to help her, and my hardening c**k sprung free, ready for her attention.
She settled back down, and now I couldn’t see her at all beneath the blanket. Somehow, not knowing what she was doing - or was going to do - turned me on more. Her hand wrapped around me, firm yet gentle, as she began to stroke.
I felt her chin against the sensitive head, and then her tongue found me. She clearly was struggling to see what she was doing in the dark, but didn’t let it stop her. Her tongue danced around the head, then moved along the shaft and back up. Her hand continued to move up and down as her lips sealed around the head.
My eyes closed and I moaned softly as her tongue flicked over the tip. Then slowly, she sank down on me, taking as much as she could into her mouth before her lips met her hand.
On top of the blanket, my hand found the back of her head. She hummed softly, sending vibrations along my shaft causing me to moan again. I was trying to be quiet, even though Cole was awake and likely downstairs. I didn’t want this quiet moment interrupted.
Her hand and her mouth worked together, up and down at a steadily increasing pace. I inadvertently thrust upwards, barely able to contain myself due to the pleasure flowing through me. Her free hand gripped my hip, bringing me back down.
“Nica…” I breathed again, knowing she was bringing me close. I pushed the blankets back, finding her beneath them. She squinted up at me, eyes not adjusted to fresh light. I ran my hand through her curls, then cupped the back of her head. “Come here,” I urged.
She hollowed her cheeks, sucking hard as she drew back up the shaft. Nica released me with a wet pop and crawled back up the bed towards me. I captured her lips in a kiss and wrapped my arms around her waist as I rolled her onto her back so I was on top, positioned between her legs. Another squeal of delight was muffled against me.
I reached down between us and stroked her through her panties. She was already so wet. I pushed the thin fabric to the side so I could dip two fingers between her folds, and circle her c**t. She moaned against me, her hips raising in an effort to chase my fingers as I withdrew my hand.
I quickly replaced my fingers with the head of my c**k, brushing it back and forth along her wet p***y. She whimpered, her hips lifting again, silently begging me to fill her. I lined the head of my c**k with her entrance. Nica was impatient, wrapping a leg around my waist to pull me against her as I slowly thrust forward. Another satisfied moan was lost in the kiss and she sank back into the mattress.
Normally, I liked letting Nica have the control. I liked not having to think and just being told what to do. In this more vanilla moment though, I was enjoying taking the lead. Her arms wrapped around my neck, her fingers tangled in my hair. My thrusts were slow, mimicking the sleepy pace she had started with.
“Riley…” she moaned softly when I broke the kiss. I planted kisses along her jaw as my hand slid beneath her sweater. I cupped her breast, my thumb rubbing circles over her n****e. Her breath caught. I continued to kiss and nibble along her neck, gently squeezing and caressing her breast at the same time. They were already getting firmer, and I would’ve been lying if I said I wasn’t excited to see how they would change during the pregnancy.
The smell of fresh coffee and pancakes was drifting upstairs. My stomach grumbled, despite my current activity. I dragged my tongue along her neck and she turned her head, giving me all the access I wanted. I bit between kisses, eliciting gasps and moans from her with each one. I rolled my hips with each thrust, targeting that sensitive spot inside that would make her come undone. Her muscles started to tighten, clenching me as she wrapped her other leg around me too.
My pace quickened, I thrust harder and deeper. I pinched her n****e between my fingers, causing her to gasp. “Come for me, kitten,” I whispered in her ear. Then I bit down in that spot I knew she liked. Never hard enough to break the skin, but enough pressure to send a combined wave of pain and pleasure rolling through her body. One hand left my hair, clutching my shoulder instead. Her nails dug into my skin as she clung to me, triggering my own release. Her hips moved to meet mine as I continued through our shared climax.
Afterwards, I let go of her neck, and pressed kisses to the marks my teeth had left. Her grip on me loosened, and I lay there for a few moments. There was another stomach rumble, and this time, I wasn’t sure if it was hers or mine. So we unwrapped ourselves from each other and got dressed.
Now here we were, reassuring Cole that everything was going to be fine. Not everything needed to be figured out immediately. The important things - paternity, work, family - would be easy to deal with. We would both be the father. Nothing mattered except that we were in this together. We would start telling people, starting with those most important to us, our parents, her dad, Jay and Mallory. The rest we’d figure out along the way.
Nica was already suggesting taking our parents out to lunch to surprise them with the news. After confirming with mom that we’d meet her and dad at Casa Maria’s this afternoon, Nica called her dad and put him on speaker phone. “I have something really important to tell you,” she grinned after they’d exchanged their normal greetings and asked how each other was doing.
“Oh no, did you break something? Please tell me it wasn’t expensive,” he feigned seriousness.
“No, nothing broke, but it is something expensive.”
“What is it?” he asked, genuinely.
“You’re going to be a grandad.”
“You’re pregnant?” We could hear the shock in his voice, even over the phone. Then, “Congratulations. I’m assuming it’s one of your boyfriends’?”
“Both,” she replied. “They’re both going to be dad.”
“Well good,” he seemed satisfied with her answer. “I’ve always said you can’t have too many people who love you. So if they both love you, and they’ll both love the baby, that’s all that matters.”
“They do,” Nica confirmed, smiling at Cole and me.
They chatted for a little while longer, and I slipped away to go take a shower. Nica wanted to go shopping before we went to Casa Maria’s. And for all of the things that Nica enjoyed, showering together was not one of them. She complained that it was too cramped and slippery for shower s*x, that porn had created unrealistic expectations for it. Not to mention, no one wanted to be the person that wasn’t under the water. So no matter what else we did, separate showers were always a thing. Taking a shower first also meant giving her and Cole the opportunity to be alone together once she was off the phone.
About thirty minutes before we were supposed to be at Casa Maria’s, we were checking out at Target. Nica was trying to resist the temptation to start stocking up on baby things, but she did have a goal in mind nonetheless. She picked out two onesies: one was white with a big yellow smiling sun that read “Grandma’s Little Sunshine”, the other was red with little pink hearts drawn around the words “I love my grandpa.” She also picked out a small stuffed lion, a card that read “Coming soon: your grandchild!,” and a gift box with some tissue paper.
In the car, Nica arranged everything neatly in the box so she could surprise my parents. The onesies were folded neatly and placed side by side so that “grandma” and “grandpa” were both displayed. The stuffed animal was tucked next to them, and the card placed on top.
When we got there, I spotted my dad’s blue Chevy already in the parking lot and snagged the space two over from him. Of course my parents were already inside, seated at a round corner booth. Dad had already ordered our drinks, and was looking over the menu. “I don’t know why you bother,” my mom was teasing. “You always get the same thing.”
“I’m killing time,” he explained, looking up as I slid into the booth next to my mom, Nica beside me. This left Cole and my dad both on the outside.
“What is that?” my mom asked, eyes locked on the box at the same time the server walked up to drop off chips, salsa, and queso.
“Do y’all need a moment to look at the menu?”
We exchanged glances with each other, confirming we were all ready, and placed our orders.
As the server left, my mom’s attention was immediately brought back to the mystery box. “It’s a gift,” Nica grinned, sliding it across the table. “For you and Odie.”
They exchanged confused glances with each other, then with us. “It’s not either of our birthdays, it’s not our anniversary,” mom reasoned as she pulled the box closer, looking at my dad again.
“Just open it,” I encouraged with a smile.
Cole and dad were both already dipping chips into the queso as mom lifted the lid. Immediately, she screamed, causing dad to jump and drop his chip in the cheese. Luckily, the restaurant was pretty empty, but I did notice a few heads turn our way. She covered her mouth with her hand, startled by her own reaction. “Does this mean…?” she trailed off, brushing her fingertips over the word “grandma.”
“There’s a card,” dad pointed out, as he reached for another chip. He was clearly trying to play it cool, but a broad smile was plastered to his face as he started at the box’s contents.
Mom opened the envelope and pulled the card out. She squealed again, more contained this time, as happy tears brimmed her eyes. “This is for real?” she asked, holding the card in one hand as she brushed her fingertips along the bottom of her eyes.
She glanced between the three of us, but her focus was mainly on Nica, who simply smiled and nodded.
“Oh, okay,” I commented as my mom crawled across me to pull Nica into an awkward hug. Nica’s hands rested on my mom’s back, just under her arms as my mom squeezed her shoulders.
Once she let go of Nica, she remembered she actually had sons that were involved in this pregnancy and she leaned in to give me a hug too before standing and forcing Cole up to hug him as well.
“So which one of you is-“ my dad started.
I cut him off, “Both. We’re not worried about biological paternity. We’re both going to be dads.”
“Well, you share everything else,” he grinned, winking at Nica as he reached for another chip. A deep blush colored her cheeks. “Why not this too?”
Mom was too busy looking at the onesie, her fingers still brushing over the words as she held it up, to pay attention to the conversation taking place. “When is the baby due?” she asked, turning her attention to Nica again.
“Right now, the doctor thinks probably late August or early September. We’ll actually know how far along I am once I have an ultrasound.”
Lunch continued with the only topic of conversation being the baby. Mom was already in party planner mode, discussing throwing a baby shower, asking if Nica wanted to do a gender reveal, potential nursery themes. A few times Cole and I had to calm her down and remind her she was getting too far ahead of herself. We had only just found out last night, and hadn’t even discussed names, let alone know what the gender would be yet.
Then she brought up the more practical things. The one thing we’d decided could be put on the back burner for now. “Where are you going to live?”
“Um…” Nica blinked, clearly caught off guard.
“We don’t have to figure that out yet,” I tried to interject. “Nica’s lease isn’t up until July.”
“July is only a month before August, and two before September. That’s barely enough time to move.”
Cole pushed his glasses up his nose. Just when we’d gotten him out of his spiral, mom was unknowingly pulling him back in. Nica’s lips pressed together. I placed my hand on my mom’s forearm, hoping to pull her back, at least for today, “Mom…”
“Riley, this is important,” she continued, as if I wasn’t trying to interrupt. “Nica’s apartment isn’t big enough, even for just her and the baby. And where will the baby sleep at your house? One of you would have to give up a room. And you can’t just wait until July to decide who’s going to live where. It takes time to sell a house, and it takes time to buy a house.” I sucked in a deep breath, hating that I’d already thought these things, I just didn’t want to overload Cole all at once. She was being practical though, and she wasn’t wrong. “You’ll need at least a three bedroom, four if Nica moves in. Unless you’re all sharing a room, which will get cramped fast, even with just two people. Trust me, I know. We need to start looking at houses now. Start looking into financing and contacting realtors.”
“We won’t be next door anymore,” Cole finally spoke, his voice small. The root of his moving anxiety revealing itself.
“Nonsense,” mom smiled. “We’ll find something with a guest house, then I can still be close if you need help.”
Dad choked on his beer, blinking as he looked over at mom. “We’re moving too?”
