Kiko had tried holding Dom’s hand on the way to Chad’s room, twice, but the man pulled away each time. Kiko couldn’t understand it—Dom had seemed occasionally annoyed when they were with Hailey and he hadn’t asked all the questions. Maybe he felt like Kiko was pointedly not wanting to spend time with him. Kiko held back a sigh at the thought. If that was the case, this was probably about more than the festival, but he didn’t want to deal with that right now.
Chad’s room was quiet when they approached, Kiko relieved that his hope had paid off. It seemed Chad’s mother had gone out for something to eat, leaving the teen behind with a handheld gaming device to occupy himself. Kiko knocked.
“Hey boss, come in,” said Chad, sounding no less enthusiastic than normal. “And Dom.”
