First Day!

Finally after what felt like the longest weekend ever, September 2nd came and it was my first day. I woke up, late and for the first time since I found I was able to go to Sandy Bay High School, I was nervous. I got dressed in the outfit I was able to finally decided to wear, late last night. I finished going through all the clothes I have both old and new and spent probably three hours figuring out the outfits for the week plus the perfect cute gym clothes that would pass regulation with flying colors but not make me look boring and fashion impaired. It took me a while to get a sense of fashion but I learned that girls can be mean and did not want any extra ammunition against me. After getting dressed I checked the phone, I saw a good morning and good luck text from J. I quickly sent a thank you back. I went downstairs and started shoveling food into my mouth. Then my sisters and I went out the door with our bags. At the bus stop Jaz turned towards me and started speaking “at school Sky and I are not your sisters, we don’t know you and you are just the new girl. Understand?” I quickly looked to Sky and Jaz spoke before I could even ask “I said that Sky and I aren’t going to know you and I meant it.” I realized at this moment that I was going to a new school alone with only Maggie’s support. “If that’s how you both want it then that is how it will be.” I said deciding to make the best of my situation and realized that arguing with Jaz is not the way to do it. Finally the bus came around and we went on. Jaz and Sky heading straight to the back and I sat in the middle. We had a few more stops before getting to the school. Once we got to the school, everyone rushed off the bus and I got swept off with the wave. Everyone spaced out, some heading into the school and others going to their friends, I was standing at the edge of the curb in front of the school. I quickly went into the school hoping to find the office. Not paying attention I ended up running into something… or someone. I fell to the ground while a whole bunch of papers fluttered down. Quickly I started to grab the papers. “I am so sorry I was not looking where I was going.” I said as I sorted the papers. When the person didn’t answer I kept talking “I am truly sorry, I was looking at my map, trying to find the office, I’m all turned around. I know it’s a horrible excuse and that I should have been paying attention to where I was walking. I gathered your papers for you, I hope they are easy to organize. I hope I didn’t hurt you.” I finished talking at the same time as I finished grabbing the last of the sheets. I stood favoring my right leg a little but tried not to make it obvious. I held out the sheets towards the person while my hand shook. Embarrassed, I looked to the ground and wouldn’t look up. “Are you alright?” The person asked while taking the papers. I quickly dropped my hand so I didn’t have the noticeable shakes. “you have no need to stress that the papers are easy to sort through. Unless you are stressed from an injury. I truly hope I did not hurt you. Since you are lost and I am parsley to blame for your fall the office is down the first hall on your left then follow it to the end and turn left again if you follow that hall on your left again is the office. Most students come to the school with their parents the first time they arrive so it is a different door. This is the bus door.” I was startled by how smooth his voice was and how polite he was. I started to think about my lessons with Maggie when she told me that speaking with adults or people with high status is important to be polite, she told me that not many children will talk that way and taught me how to talk with slang. ‘Maggie would comment saying he was a prince or something haha. Now I’ll start thinking of him as The Prince.’ I was in a good mood from thinking of a nickname that I looked up with confidence. Instantly I lost it. In front of me was the hottest, like the model type hot, guy I’ve ever laid eyes on. He had black hair that was smooth and well styled, tall, way taller than my 5’3” probably more 6 foot. The thing I got drawn to were his eyes, they were like a storm with the sun still visible. I didn’t want to stare but I didn’t want to look away. He caught me staring and locked eyes with me. “I hope you have a good day” he then broke eye contact and walked away shaking his head. ‘I haven’t even been in this school for 10 minutes and I already am making a fool out of myself.’ following the prince’s directions I found the office. “Hello dear,” as soon as I got to the office someone spoke to me. “The first bell hasn’t even rung yet what are you doing in here?” I looked towards the voice. She was a pretty woman who looked between 35-40. “I came to get my locker number and my class schedule.” The nice woman smiled “wonderful did a parent or guardian come with you?” I was worried “No was my mom supposed to? I can call her if you need her to come. I just hope she isn’t already working…:” “ No need to panic dear. What is your name?” “Elizabeth Mae…” The lady’s eyes widened and had a small nod of her head. “Yes we were expecting you. I apologize if you were struggling at all. I will get everything you will need.” The lady quickly scurried around the office going to the computer, printer, then to a coworker. Finally came back to me “Here you are Miss Elizabeth Mae. I hope you enjoy Sandy Bay High School.”

8:10 - 9:25; English, Mrs. Fair

9:35 - 10:50; World history, Miss Smith

10:50 - 11:40; Lunch

11:45 - 1:00; Gym, Mr. Lang

1:10 - 2:25; Math, Mr. Keith

I quickly said thank you and left to find my locker number 1212, before class started. I walked down a few halls and got turned round quickly. Then I turned to the lockers and just followed the numbers. Finally I found my locker between the girls who were talking. Just as I was working up the courage to ask to get to my locker no other than Jaz, Sky, and their friends showed up. “Oh hi Lilly Billy, how has it been in the low levels?” Jaz teased after shoving the small girl. Startled by how Jaz was acting Elizabeth Mae couldn’t even move. “Sh…she d… doesn’t…:” “ And little miss Elaine st…stutter. I’ll be enjoying bugging you both some more this year.” By this point I got over my shock and could not let it continue so I stepped forward and walked between the evils and the two girls while speaking “wow so apparently I found the Queen bee and her sycophants. I’m surprised you girls look like you aren’t the oldest or the smartest or even the prettiest so what made you be the ‘top’ dogs or I guess the top birds… actually dog suits you girls better. Especially since that’s how you are acting. So I’ll repeat myself: why are you girls the ‘top’ dogs?” Jaz opened her mouth but one of the girls behind the twins spoke first “we are the meanest duh” I actually laughed “you are so gonna get smacked for talking.” Jaz stepped closer to me. “Newbie, let me tell you this. Here you are a nobody you have no rant and nothing. Don’t put your nose somewhere it doesn’t belong or else it will get bitten off.” I smiled a sweet smile at my sister. “I will do what I want even if it pisses you off Jaz, so I suggest you bug off before you get popped. You know I will do whatever it takes to help those that need it even at my own risk. Goodbye Queen Bee, you don’t want to lose to the Newbie now do ya?” I smiled and turned around looking sad and defeated towards the girls behind Sky. The girls snickered and whispered that I got put in my place. Jaz and the two girls saw what really went down though and the former was furious, gathered her group and left.
