Chapter 1
I am a rogue and an orphan. In the wolf world, that means that I am the lowest ranked. I have been on my own for 5 years, since I was 15. I stand at 5'5" and have amber-colored eyes, a shapely figure, and white hair which is a rarity among wolves. I walked out of my room in the two-bedroom cabin I built for myself and hopped into the shower. I washed up quickly since it's winter and the cabin gets cold. I grabbed my black hunting pants and shirt before putting on my leather hunting vest and grabbing my bow and arrows. I walked into the snowy forest around me and watched the cardinals fly by without care.
I made it to the large oak tree that I usually hunt out of and quickly climbed up the branches. That's when I saw two young wolves in their human form, about 200 yards away from me. A younger male and female, probably about 18. I watched them and knew they weren't just mates running around. They wouldn't be able to stay off each other if they were. I saw the rogue before they did and quickly pulled my bow out ready to take it down. I let my arrow fly as the male got in front of the girl trying to protect her. My arrow hit the wolf in the heart as it jumped and it's claws were barely out of reach of the male. He looked around cautiously as I jumped to the next tree and climbed down deciding they weren't a threat to me.
The male was quickly assessing the situation around us before he said, "We aren't here to cause trouble and we appreciate what you did for us. We'll keep moving and stay away." I smelled the air catching the slight hint of rogue on them. "Why are you rogues? You obviously don't have your wolves yet or you would have shifted. What have you done to become a rogue?" He growled softly and the female spoke softly from behind him. "Alpha Edmond killed our parents and cast us out of the pack for being orphaned. We really don't want to cause any trouble." My attitude shifted quickly and I calmly said, "Come back to my cabin with me. If you want to stay you can. I was also orphaned and thrown out by that wretched Alpha. My name is Ember and you will be safe with me." She poked her head from behind her brother and said, "I'm Jade and this is my twin Jackson."
I smiled softly as they followed me to the cabin. I don't accept visitors but they are different. I saw a deer and quickly put my hand up for the twins to stop moving. I aimed my arrow and shot taking the deer down. I threw the doe over my shoulders and continued on my path to the cabin. Once we arrived at the cabin I took the deer to the shed where I process all my meat and unlocked the cabin door. I sighed and said, "I know it isn't much but it's home." Jade squealed in delight and looked at her twin, "Jackson we don't have to be rogues anymore. We found Ember, I don't know about you but I love her." She wrapped her arms around my torso tightly and I honestly didn't know how to respond. I haven't been hugged in years, I softly wrapped my arms around her and Jackson snorted trying to hide his laugh at my facial expression. I stuck my tongue out at him and he lost his composure quickly. "I need to go clean the doe so we have dinner, but make yourself at home."
I smiled softly as I walked out of the cabin door. I felt a presence behind me and turned to see Jackson, "I need to learn how to process meat if we're going to stay here. I need to be helpful too." He scratched his neck nervously and I giggled and said, "It's a good skill to learn and I wouldn't mind having help around here." I taught him everything I could and he helped make dinner for the night before I showed them the other room. Jackson decided to sleep on the couch until we could get his own bed.
