Chapter 11

Troy

Ever since I cheated on Elisa, my heart hasn’t been at peace. I also can't get Erika out of my mind. I am just so confused, I don’t know where to begin. I have tried burying myself in paperwork but to no avail. I can't even seem to understand anything that I am reading. I can't even balance the account books properly, I keep getting errors. I finally decide to go for a run in my forest, maybe it will calm me down.

I finish my run and decide to take a walk back to the pack. As I am walking back, a scent hits my nose, a scent I know really well. Woodsy, fruity and sweet, it's a combination of scents which blend perfectly together.

“Elisa!!” No, it can't be, I have looked everywhere for her, she can't be in my pack.

I brush it off, but it comes back again, and this time stronger.

'Mate?' Torak growls in my head, stubbornly wanting to take control. But his tone is a little off.

I follow the scent slowly so that I don't lose it.

“Who is there?” Her voice makes my heart start beating so fast. It's the most sweetest voice I have ever heard. It soothes my spirit.

The forest is dark and trees are everywhere, so I have to walk stealthily. I finally get to her, my heart almost stops when I see her right in front of me. For a while, I thought that it's all in my head, but when she speaks to me, I confirm it.

It's my Elisa, it's almost a year now, and she is here. I want to take her in my arms and never let her go, but she doesn't know me. She seems strange, and she runs away when I mention my name. I try to run after her to no avail. She disappears in the forest and so is her scent.

I cannot believe it, she is actually alive. But why didn’t I feel the mate bond when I saw her, and her eyes… something has really changed about her. Is it because I cheated on her? But how could she have known?

“Elisa, please don't run away from me.” I cry while rushing after her. But wherever she disappears to, I don't even know.

Maybe it's just my subconscious playing a trick on me. But when I stumble onto something almost making me fall, I am convinced I wasn’t hallucinating.

wait a minute! Is it the same camera she was holding? So, I wasn't dreaming. I pick it up in haste, dust it off and turn it so that I am looking at the small screen. Too bad, I don't even know how to use it. The screen is dark and regardless of what I do, it doesn't seem to turn on.

“s**t!!!” So, I have to go back to the pack.

I have to come back and look for her, she is alive, I can’t believe it. I just hope that this camera will have some kind of clue in it.

‘What are we going to do, Troy?’ Torak asks as I am going back to the pack.

‘What do you mean?’

‘Didn’t you feel it? She is mate, but she isn’t mated at the same time.’ He answers, I can feel his desperation. I am beyond confused, if she has been this near us, then why didn’t I find her. ‘The bond is gone, Troy.’ He adds breaking down. I don’t say a word to him because I am as confused as he is.

‘To make the matters worse, we cheated on her. How are we going to explain that to her, Troy? I told you, I really told you, but you wouldn’t listen to me.’ he speaks in so much anger.

I deserve it all, how could I just give up on her, why couldn’t I do more? I am just useless, I guess she is just better off without me. She survived all this time without me, she even changed, she looks more mature and stronger.

‘Don’t you dare say that Troy, we are going to beg mate if we have to. We have to get her back, if not, then you will never hear from me again, and that’s a promise.’ He threatens.

‘I will leave myself too if that happens.’ I add.

I mind link my Levy the moment I get to the pack, I go straight to him, I can’t wait any longer.

“Open up Levy.” I knock at his cottage when I find the door closed. He takes his time to open the door, I can hear shuffles inside, I think I interrupted them.

“Oh, Troy, you didn’t have to come all the way here, I was coming to you.” He says, smiling sheepishly. I would have joked about this moment, but I can’t, I can’t even rest my mind. “Is everything alright, please come in.” the smile on his face vanishes when he sees how I look. I take a sit next to Mary, who gets up the moment I do and stands beside Levy, laying her head on his chest. Levy, in turn, wraps his hands around her waist.

I just love how affectionate they are always towards each other. I always regret how I used Mary. I am glad she forgave me, though.

“Can you please check this camera for me, I need its contents?” I ask, handing it to him.

“Where did you get it?” he asks, letting go of Mary and his tone, and expression changing all of a sudden.

“I just asked you to check on it Levy. If you can’t then leave it, I will just take it to another person.” I am in no mood to argue right now, my mind is only on Elisa.

I also don’t want to upset another person, for so long, I have been trying as hard as I can to change, I want to be a better man. It’s not always easy, but I try my best.

“No Troy, I am sorry, it’s just that I have never seen you with a camera before, that’s why I asked.” He says, opening it and removing a card. “This will make it easier, you can just use the card, you know how to use it don’t you?” he asks. I nod, I pick it up and thank them before I leave.

I have to go check a YouTube tutorial on how to use this card. I used to do so many mischievous staff back in school and I never really acquired any good skills apart from fighting and causing others harm.
