Chapter 4: He Is Gone

339 Words
“What?! Mom, what do you mean? What happened? Is this a joke?” I said as I started crying as well. Mom was crying on the other line and I couldn’t talk to her properly. I ended the call and dialed my brother’s number. He answered on the third ring. “Aki, what happened to Dad? Mom called me and she was cry—” “He’s gone, Ke,” He said. “Dad had a car accident.” “What?! No! No! I don’t believe you! Please, tell me that’s not true, Aki! It can’t be true!” I screamed. “I’m sorry, Ke, I wish I could say the words that you want to hear right now but I can’t.” He cried. I didn’t recall seeing him cry so I’m sure as hell that this is real. “No, no, Aki,” I said softly. “I know it’s hard, Ke, but please be strong. Mom needs us now more than ever.” He said. “I know. Don’t worry, I’ll be there as soon as I can.” I said. “I’ll get you the next flight back home. Take care and be here safely.” He said. “I need to go now. I’ll talk to Mom.” He ended the call after reminding me a couple of times that I needed to be strong and not let my emotions get to me. He said he’ll send me my flight details in a few. I know it must be hard for Aki right now. I’m sure Mom is devastated and I know Aki needed to be string for her. I need to get back home as fast as I could and be with my family. I went back to my room and started packing. I was crying while sorting out my things. God! This is ultimately painful and I don’t know how I’m gonna deal with this. After I packed my things, I went out of my apartment and headed to the airport.
