Chapter 2: Powers

1148 Words
"Are you okay?" asked the man with gray eyes. He is looking at me worriedly while holding me close to him. I opened my mouth as I try to say that I am okay, but it looks like my tongue is tied. The smell of cologne was going through my nostrils. I could feel his formidable chest in my palm. His manly features strike me at this moment.   I knew this man. He is Paulo Jimenez, the son of the owner of this university. The dream of every girl in this school. "OMG! Cassie! He is handsome!" I went back to my senses when I hear Kikay's excited voice. I harrumphed and pushed him away. "Are you okay?" he asked again with his baritone voice. "I'm… fine," I answered and started walking to our room. "Wait!" Paulo stops me by holding me in his arms. I started feeling my rage when I think his soft hands touch my pale skin. I'm not too fond of it when someone is touching me. I look at him as my eyebrows rise. "What do you think you are doing?" I asked. His forehead wrinkled, and he looked amazed because of my question. "I'm stopping you?" I was surprised by him being direct. "I know. Why. Are. You. Touching. Me?" I asked again, emphasizing every word I say. Paulo smirked. "Sorry." He let go of my arms. "Is this your way of thanking your savior?" "Well, thank you. But that doesn't mean you can touch me," I answered Paulo coldly and turns my back. "Hey! Wait!" I heard him called me, but I didn't look back. I hurriedly walk to our room and sits on my table in the last row. I was relieved when I saw the blue sky from the window beside me. "The audacity to touch the king." I heard a high-pitched voice from my side. When I look at there, I saw a group of girls glaring at me. It is as if they could eat me in their way of looking at me. I just looked at them with my poker face and raised my eyebrows. Is it my fault that I bumped into their 'king'? I squinted at them angrily and looked at the window again. I can still hear angry voices from afar, but I did not mind them anymore. I don't want to waste my time with the people like them.  "Cassie! Look at them. They want to kill you with their eyes," Kikay said worriedly. I did not look at her, but I could see her from my peripheral vision. She is looking at the girls and throwing some punches at them. "What do you want? Huh?! Come and fight me!" she shouted. I smiled secretly; this is what I love at Kikay. Her desire to protect me is great. But honestly? I questioned it. Because aside from flying, I can't see other skills from her. They may say that she is not true; I could feel her good intentions for me. After a few minutes, the bell rang. My classmates started going inside our room. I stay looking at the blue sky. Whenever I look at nature, I always feel relieved. And also, I start thinking about my parents when I am in nature. I grow up not knowing them. I don't even have pictures. Whenever I mention my parents to Tiya Jesse, she will start to fall asleep. That is why I never got a chance to hear her stories about them. Not long ago, Sir Lumuntad, our teacher comes to our room. Our first subject for today is English, the most boring subject for me. He started his lesson, so I sit properly and focus my attention on him. English may be boring for me, but I could still get good grades in this subject. Even though I'm no good at making friends, my academic performance is well. I'm always at the top of our class. Being brainy is one of the reasons why they don't like me. Timepass, the last subject for this afternoon, is done. After our teacher bids her goodbye to us, we also started to fix our things. I put my notebooks and pen in my bag and started heading out. But I was stopped by the group of girls who are talking at my back. "What?" I asked boringly. "Come with us," said the girl with a cute size of the height. My eyebrows rise again. "And why would I do that?" "Why? You want this to happen here?" I was stunned when she started punching my face. I step backward as I touch my nose that has blood now. "What the hell?!" The girl smirks at me. "You will get more if you don't listen to me! Stay away from Paulo!" she shouted again. The other girls from her back are smiling instead of stopping their leader. Our classmates started to form a circle as if we are in an arena. They were exciting us up. "Cassie! It's bleeding!" Kikay exclaimed when she saw my broken nose. I remove my hands from my nose and look at blood in my hands. "Stay away from Paulo!" the other girls shouted. "Are you for real?! It was an accident!" "Whatever! Just stay away from him!" I took a deep breath and tried to control my feelings. I wipe the blood to my nose and look at them while frowning. "For your information, I don't care about your 'king.' So, let me through if you don't want me to hit you too!" My eyes widened. I saw the shock on her face; she maybe thinks that I will not stand up to her. I don't care. I didn't do anything terrible. I'm afraid I have to disagree that it is my fault that Paulo bumps me. But these girls stand up for what they believe. "Hmph! I saw you clinging to him! What do you think about that?" I took a deep breath as I feel my blood is rising now. But I am trying my best to calm myself. "I didn't –" Before I could finish my sentence, I felt a snap in my left cheeks. It started to heat because of the impact. The girl slaps me in my face. My classmates started shouting, making their bets and whatsoever. What they are doing is too much, and I can't take it anymore! I look at her dangerously. I didn't even blink. "When I say I don't care, it means I don't care." I touch my cheeks that she slaps. "And this? No one has the right to hurt me!" I shouted, proclaiming my authority. That moment, the wind in our room started to get strong. We are all shocked when we saw the girl begun flying in the air.   © 04 – 29
