Why? Why did you do that? She thought, staring at her hands devoid of emotion from outside but burning in a fierce fire from inside.
His voice was echoing in her mind. She wanted to know what made him like this. She wanted to know what devil consumed her Alphonse.
“When you are in my hands, then why not my lines?” She whispered to herself, finding him so far from her, enough to never return to her.
And unwillingly it pricked her heart, seeing him was breaking her heart already and now it has become her affliction.
“Why did you do this?” She growled, pushing her hairs back and pulling them in stress.
Her heart began to throb out of constant worry on her mind, leading her to depression.
“You-” She tried to speak but her door knocked and Elliot entered. He came and saw her state, calling her.
“Hey, are you alright?” He asked, coming closer, holding two cups of coffee.
“Elliot?” She asked, straightening her back, looking back at him with her hollow eyes.
“You okay? Matteo told me you are not okay. You didn’t even have lunch. Here, drink this and eat it.” He smiled, kissing the top of her head, putting her coffee and sandwich on the table.
“I am fine.” She forced out a broken smile, shaking her head to shrug him off.
“Really? You don't look like it.” He shrugged, leaning on the table, checking her out.
“Elliot, I don’t think we should see each other. Letters are fine.” She replied coldly, holding her forehead.
They were talking through letters to not get caught but she was still skeptical about his plan, she was mentally ready for anything.
“I am your senior, I can check up on you whenever I want.” He reasoned calmly, flashing a charming grin in her direction.
“So, tell me, what is it?” He asked lovingly, bringing his hand close to caress her cheek, but she leaned back, refraining his touch.
“Nothing.” She whispered, resting her elbow on the armrest, staring into nothingness.
Closing her eyes for a second, but her voice came to her mind again.
“My Soul.”
Leave my mind, dammit!
“You sure? Did he say something? Did he do something?” He asked softly, moving to get a clearer look of her face.
“No…” She shook her head, reassuring him.
“He is already distant lately, comes late, doesn’t talk, goes early.” She told him, trying to put his suspicion to an end to avoid needless explanations.
“Well, that’s relieving.” He smiled, drinking his coffee.
“Relieving?” She asked, narrowing her eyes, almost angry at him because she didn’t like the way it sounded.
“That is he is not bothering you and you are fine.” He said nonchalantly, easing her anger, but her mind was unable to eliminate it.
“Hmm. I guess.” She hummed, closing her eyes, rubbing her temples.
“But, Baby. This won’t do.” He sighed, putting his coffee aside and holding her hands.
“What do you mean?” She asked softly, confused.
“Since you are living with him you should take advantage of it.” He reminded her about the plan they originally devised and she was straying.
“Advantage? How?” She asked, tilting her head.
“You should get as much information as possible on him so the next time we arrest him he won’t have a chance to escape.” He said, trying to encourage her to deceive him again.
“He will do it. One way or another. No one has ever harmed him.” She shook her head in denial, pulling her hand away.
“If I did this again, I don’t want to think about what he would do to me. You might get away easily but I won’t.” She muttered, wrapping her arms around herself.
She was not prepared to go against him, his wrath would break her. What if he kill her parents? She cannot imagine it.
“But you can, Baby. You are his weakness. You can control him.” He said smoothly, trying to reassure her, to cheer her up and do this.
“Me? How?” She asked.
“You just have to act nicely with him. Just be like how you were before. I am sure he will melt.” He grinned, patting her shoulder.
“I don’t think it’s a good idea, Elliot.”
She was confused by her fright but her closeness with him was a great opportunity to arrest him.
He needs her support in this.
“You have to do it, if you don’t betray him, you will be caged forever.” He whispered, reminding her of the current position in his life.
“We won’t be able to become one ever as long as he is here.” He said sadly, looking down when his words to make her listen failed.
“But…” She asked, hoping he might listen to her words but he didn’t.
“But, what? You are the only person capable of it. You are his wife, only you can.” he whispered, trying his best to make sure she listens and complies.
“If anything goes wrong, you know you can call me. I will always be there for you.” He whispered, leaning closer to her face, holding her hand.
“Yeah… you are right.” She hummed, lowering her eyes, agreeing with his idea even if it sounded unfavorable to her.
“This is for our future. For us. We have to steal our happiness ever after from him.” He smiled, kissing the back of her palm, assuring her about his presence to shelter her.
To take the life he broke.
“I know. I will try my best. He had tightened the security, I can’t move freely but I will try.” She told him worriedly, she knows how she lives at his place.
“That is what I am saying, try to manipulate him with your charm. He will listen.” He added, voice utterly gentle to remove her fears, cheering her up.
“Okay.” She nodded, forcing out a feeble smile.
“I trust you, I am dependent on you.” He hummed, pulling away from him.
“I will try my best.” She nodded, finally giving him a visible smile, willing to do whatever it takes to gain her freedom back.
“Good girl.” He grinned, coming closer to kiss her but she moved back.
“Uh.. You should go now.” She said, checking the time.
“The lunch is over.” She said hurriedly, tugging her hair behind her ear to dismiss him quickly and go back to her work without shifting her mind anywhere unpreferred.
He sighed in disappointment and moved back, shaking his head.
“Yeah. Take care okay?” He said sweetly, getting up to leave.
She smiled faintly and nodded, going back to her work.
“Hmm.”
