Chapter 2 Melissa's Pov (One Week Later…) The marriage preparations were going smoothly. After the day father had finalized my union with Alpha Rex, he sent a message to Alpha Rex, telling him about his proposal to hand me to him as bride. Just two days ago, I learned that my father had gone for a betrothal contract years ago when I was just five. He had done this to get the gem of life but Alpha Rex's father refused to grant it. He told my father that his son had been betrothed to some one else. What if Alpha Rex and I finally get married, what will happen when his betrothed finally shows up? Accepting to get married to me doesn't mean he can love me as long as she is still out there alive. Why would mother come up with such a nasty idea? Today, Alpha Rex will be coming to my pack, tomorrow is the day of our union. I wish today never existed. I wish I was home for a short while, waking up to hear that Alpha Rex has changed his mind towards the proposal. But with the way things were moving, I doubt there'd be a change of mind. I thought of what to do and how to go about my new life with Alpha Rex. "Your highness, Alpha Rex is close to the border. He is on his way to the pack as we speak." My maid informed me. "How long does he have to get to the palace?" I asked. "Less than an hour, I guess. Every thing is being done with, I presume the wedding would work out well. Congratulations, Miss." She congratulated me. I looked at her disgustedly. I can't believe she actually accepted to have me given off to the Winter Wolf alpha all because of a simple gem? I sighed, it isn't her fault after all. She has nothing to do with this. "Thank you." "I will endeavor to notify you with any information I receive." "I will be glad if you do so." She bowed her head, leaving my room. Why do I feel like this marriage won't turn out well? A part of me tells me there is more to this marriage than I expect. Some thing unexpected will follow after. I tried to question my thoughts why it had felt that way, but I couldn't get an answer to my question. Some thing just doesn't feel right. I can feel it. I can perceive it. It's not just me getting affected, every one single one of us will. I dozed off after so much effort to pull it off. Waking up in a world I haven't been before. The environment was quite fashionable, the room I appeared to be was quite different from any other I have ever been. In this dream of mine, I was in a room. I presumed it was Alpha Rex's room, plus the level of cold I felt made me know that I am in the Winter Wolf pack. But in this room, it's just me alone here. I smiled victoriously, searching for a door. I was staring at a brown door, and I was smiling idiotically that I was finally going to prove my worth to my father and to the pack at large. I searched around the room for the key. There was a drawer beside his bed. I tried to open it but it was locked. I dragged it, not minding the noise I was creating. I used my hair pin to open it, taking the key to open the door. I bent the knob, pushing the door open. I was finally staring at the gem of life. It was kept in the middle of the room, and it was standing on some thing solid, tall like a pillar. I quickly phoned my mother that I was holding the gem of life, and that very soon I'll be knocking on the door. She screamed in joy, urging me to be very careful. I promised I wouldn't let any one find out. I gently took the gem in my hand, hurriedly walking out of the room to Alpha Rex's room when I met him just walking in. I froze in fear, I prayed the world would be in a stand still for the rest of our existence. I looked at the gem in my hand, then at the figure who was now staring at me with an emotionless expression on his face. The ground should just swallow me then. I couldn't find the words to justify my action, I was still like ice. "What are you doing?" His cold inhuman voice echoed the room. My head couldn't interpret a single word. "Am I talking to a dumb or what? Where the f**k do you think you are going with that gem?" "I… I… I…" I stammered. "I was…" He walked closer to me and I walked backwards. My body hits the door, pushing it open. As soon as I got in, I shut the door so he couldn't touch me. I went to place the gem back in its position, I didn't mind the way he banged on the door, as long as he wasn't touching me, I felt safe. "Open the damn door, Melissa!" He yelled. "I said open the f*****g door!" "No. I can't." "I'm gonna break this door if you don't. I bet you don't wanna find out what I'll do to you if I open it myself." I was scared to the bones. I found myself opening the door, trying to escape his wrath. Little did I know I had just walked into his wrath. He grabbed my neck tight, his face wore an angry expression. It was better to stare in the eyes of my father when he is angry than to look at his face. "Ahh!" I yelped. "You're hurting me! Let me… go! Please, let… me… go." I pleaded but he wasn't listening to me. It's as if the more I begged for my life, the angrier he got. "Who sent you?" He growled. "Nobody! Nobody sent me!" "I'm gonna ask you one last time, Melissa. Who sent you?" His voice was deep and hard. "I only want the gem back. My pack needs it to survive."
