Friends I guess...

1119 Words
Andrew was learning a new routine after months of being spoilt rotten by Alexander, it was not all that hard. They gave him his night bath and got him ready for bed, but because Xander had tired him out playing in the backyard, he instantly fell asleep, "It's not fair that Andrew just complies when it's you," she said pretending to be a bit angry, he came to her and held her in his arms and whispered, "...oh I forgot to tell you, I'm the baby whisperer." Alexander had never been as happy as he was with Casey, sometimes he didn't want to allow himself to be happy because he felt it was like telling his mother he is better off without her. He learned that with Casey, the happiness he felt was different, his happiness came from making her happy, something his mom did for him. "I've decided," Casey said in a serious tone earning herself his attention, "...you're going to have lunch with Jason tomorrow, Sam and I have been talking you too. Don't be that guy that pushes away family because when all else fails, they are the only people that can ever be there for you."                                             "Maybe that may have been the case in your family, but not mine," he said all dark and broody again and this time Casey was not going to let him.                                                                                                                        "I don't remember what my family was like or is like, but you do and Jason is reaching out and you are pretending to be too busy to have time, you need to try," she said and he saw that she was not going to let this go until he agreed to it. It filled his heart with a warmth he had forgotten he could ever feel, he couldn't hold himself from kissing her. She broke the kiss and handed him his phone, "...call him and invite him for lunch."                                                                                                                                                                                     "Ok...you even dial his...Hey Jason," he said feeling really awkward for calling him at this time of the day, "...how are you doing man, was wondering if you still want to have that vege smoothie while I have an actual smoothie. That seems like a good punishment for the last four years."                                                                    "I'll gladly take that sentence, but first, how many smoothies do I have to endure until we can be friends again," he said sounding very happy his brother was planning to hang out with him.                                            "Non, we're still friends, I guess," hearing his brother say this, Jason was the happiest he had been in a while. After Alexander's troubles four years ago, their father asked Jason, Cara and Nick to distance themselves from him, until he at least got better. At first they thought it would be months, but months turned into years and they became estranged even as the older three worked at the same hospital. When Jason tried to come back, it looked like it was a little too late and Alexander had cut them off. He was replaced by his own girlfriend, Sam never gave up on Alexander. In fact, she was the only girl Jason knew to not fall under the beast's spell. What he failed to understand was that his brother had so much respect for him, even before he even asked Samantha out, Xander already knew that his brother loved that fire cracker. Himself he could never handle a woman like Sam, she is too independent. Alexander wanted his woman to need him as much as he needed her, sometimes he wondered if that was not how the beast was born. After ending the call Alexander felt a little lighter, he ha held his father's mistakes against his siblings for way too long, they may have played a part in staying away from, but if he was in their shoes and had gotten such an instruction from his father, he would have done the same, but why did he hold it against them for so long. To think at some point he was so close with Cara, now he only heard rumors of what was going on in her life, he had recently heard that she was dating some doctor on his floor because she was spending so much of her time there lately and was no there to pasture him on eating well, sleeping enough and exercising more. Cara saw herself as the mother he refused to have ever since his mother died. She always tried to shrink him, when all her brother needed was their old friendship. It seemed to Alexander that life kept on taking from him, and this time he was determined to hold on to Casey. He was not letting go of this woman and their little boy, biology could go f**k itself, but Andrew was his. In the back of his mind, he was afraid the guy from the grocery store knew her and would tell her husband where she is, if he hadn't already. He was going to do whatever it takes to keep that monster away from Casey and their son, he did not deserve them. Judging by how big her tummy was, he knew she was pregnant and never even once looked for them, in his books he was as bad a monster as him, if not worse, therefore he did not even deserve to breathe the same air as them.
