In the few days since the world had come to an end, Boros had learned that some things aren’t nearly as easy or glamorous as the movies make them seem. The kickback from assault rifles bruises your shoulder. Gunfire is deafening and grenades are infinitely worse. Digging shallow graves is no trivial matter. Boros’ ears constantly rang and his hearing came and went as he dug the spade into the dense earth. His body ached from the abuse of the last few days, muscles tightened and spasmed in his back, arms, and legs. More than once he had to take a break to weep openly.
