Chapter 1
I was staring at the ceiling in my bedroom just thinking about what I'm going to do. Jackson's birthday was coming up. It has been almost a whole year since we met. Then after that, it would be our one year anniversary. I wasn't sure for what to do for our anniversary. Jackson said that he was going to plan our anniversary but I still wanted to have a surprise for him anyway. I just kept staring and staring and staring until I jumped when I heard a knock on my bedroom door. I sniffed at the air and found out that it was Jackson. I had given him the key that I had made for myself from the original key that mom had given me.           "What up Jackson?" I didn't stop staring at the ceiling. He came in. He just stared at me for a while. I guess he was expecting me to look at him.           "I mean, I would like you to return my smile but. You know. It's okay. I'm fine." I chuckled and turned to look at him with a smile on my face. I was genuinely happy to see him. My boyfriend and best friend of almost a year. "Anyway, Mr. Roberts has given us the day off so we can go do our research papers."           "That's great." I said in a less than pleased tone of voice. That now means that I have absolutely nothing to do.           "You don't sound so happy. Does that mean, you have already completed them without me?" He looked horrified. But I knew he was only faking. It made me giggle. "Even with all of the things you have to do now, you still manage to get your reports, research papers, and essays done weeks before they're due." I shrugged.           "What can I say. I am an academic nerd. I always finish everything." Me and Jackson were still in the same classes somehow. He was really smart but not as quick as me.           "Hey, did you hear the latest rumor at school?"           "Like I have time to listen to gossip you weirdo. How is it that a guy pays more attention to gossip than a girl?"           "Ha ha ha. I forgot to laugh. Anyway, I'm going to pretend that you were gushing and dying to find out what the latest gossip is."           "What ever helps you sleep at night sweetie." He frowned at me. I waved my arms at him to go on.           "Anyway, I was hanging out in the main office about to go see the principal." I was about to interrupt him and ask him what he was doing in the main office in the first place but he held up a finger. It was the same finger that I bit last week for waving it at me. "She was in a meeting with someone from the state and a set of twins. I think more students are enrolling into our school this week." I wonder if they are like us. But then again, wouldn't Jackson would have said something about their scents. But then again, the school receptionist who's name I still don't remember wore too much perfume and Ms. Monroe used cleaning wipes and Lysol every time a meeting ended.           "I guess we'll find out tomorrow. Remember, we are having dinner on your birthday with the Wong's this Sunday." He groaned. "Don't you dare do that. They are giving you money and a present while we are there. So you need to be happy." He grinned at me and agreed. He liked all the attention he would get from them. He admitted that it was almost like having his parents back again but it was definitely more attention than he's use to. Anyway, after a few hours of helping him work on his research papers. We ended up stopping every two hours to make out. When he would run his fingers through my hair, I would thank god that I had finally stopped dyeing it. He liked my natural color better. Plus my fur didn't feel so gross anymore. He got most of his paper's done. I kissed him goodbye as he left my apartment. I still lived in the same apartment that I have always lived in.           I decided to go for a quick run before I committed to going to sleep for the night. I sneaked out of the apartment building and transformed behind a tree making sure to take off my clothes first. I have had a few mishaps with transforming while still wearing clothes. It was embarrassing to say in the least to have to sneak into the apartment building naked or ask Jackson to bring me some clothes. None the less, I enjoyed running like this at night. It gives me time to look over some things that have happened in my life.           I finally don't have to see a shrink each month. I now have to see her every three months. And I also don't have to take my inhaler every four hours. I now only have to take it as needed. So unless my asthma starts acting up again, I'm good. I still have to take my panic attack medicine. When the doctors tried to wean me off of it, the panic attacks started up again. It scared me and Jackson because one started one day when I was driving by myself. I was able to pull over but I still almost crashed my car.           My mom was still in jail. I had gone to visit her the first few months of her incarceration but after some verbal abuse from behind plastic and extra shrink visits, I stopped coming to see her. Also, we buried Nana with grandpa and my dad. It was a good funeral. Not many people but everyone who mattered was there. That was another shrink visit right there. I hated seeing my shrink. Dr. Dorothy was less than pleasant. I believed she had a stick up her ass all her life. When I shared that with Jackson, he promptly busted out laughing like it was the funniest thing in the world.           I was just about to turn around and run back when to wolf like figures ran across my peripheral vision. I looked to where they ran to and saw two gray wolves rough housing. I sent my thoughts towards them to see if they were like me and Jackson. "Hey little ones." They stopped and looked at me. They had gray eyes to match their fur. They looked at each other and ran off. Since they had heard me, I knew they were like Jackson and I. But they ran away from me. I wonder why. I returned home and decided to tell Jackson in the morning. I need to get some sleep for tomorrow.
