Chapter 2

The next morning, my morning routine was interrupted by Jackson abruptly bursting into my bathroom while I was slipping on a fresh pair of panda panties. He had the decency to blush at the sight of me naked. "What is it?"           "Who were the two wolves you were with last night? I could smell them outside your door." That shocked me a bit.           "Really? I only saw them outside in the woods." He stayed standing there staring at me until I cleared my throat. "I need to finish dressing for school. Plus I received an email from the principal. She has a favor to ask of us. So could you please..." I gestured for him to step out the bathroom and let me finish dressing.           "Cool. My bad. Carry on." He left out and closed my bathroom door being a stuttering mess. I loved him but he can be such a weirdo. After I was dressed, I cooked us some breakfast and we ate. He asked me why I was out late and I told him I just felt like running a bit. I know he worries about me when I'm alone. "Have you taken your meds?"           "Nope. I'm taking them after I finish eating. Doctor told me taking the panic attack meds without food in my system is a dangerous thing to do. So I'm following the rules to the letter." He smiled at me while nodding at me in approval.           "Good for you." After we finished eating and the dishes were cleaned and put away, we got into my car because it was my day to drive. Since we both had a car we wanted to drive, we had to assign days for someone to drive the other to and from wherever we were going. Whether it was work, school, or the grocery store. After we arrived, I noticed two odd looking freshmen. One had a pixie cut and the other one had long hair. Both of them had gray hair and eyes. They seemed to be talking to someone in a government official's car. Those must be the twins. I couldn't smell them because the wind was blowing in the opposite direction. But they seemed familiar to me. I shrugged it off and walked with Jackson to the principals office.           "Good morning Ms. Monroe. What can we do to help?"           "We have two new students transferring into the 9th grade today. I need you two to be open to being a mentor to them if they have any problems. They are foster children and right now their case manager is trying to help them find a home right now that is close to this school. Hopefully they find one soon. I know that you two understand how they must feel so I chose you two to be their mentors."           "I would be honored ma'am." Jackson, after his initial shock, quickly agreed with me. After that we were dismissed to class. I wondered when we would be introduced. At lunch, I was about to walk into the lunch line when I smelled the wolves from last night. I looked towards the door and saw the twins. They were both girls it seemed. The one with the pixie cut was tall and had a protective look on her face. And the one with the long hair had a slightly nervous look on her face. Almost like she didn't trust anyone around her except her sister. They looked directly at me. They quickly glanced at the door to the courtyard and then back at me. I nodded.           I got my lunch and went out to the courtyard. Jackson would join me later. He had went to the boys bathroom after class. When I got to my usual table, they were already seated there. "May I ask your names?" The one with the pixie cut answered.           "My name is Kendra. This is my twin sister Kiara. How is it you can live on your own?"           "Well, last year. Actually it will be a year on my birthday next month. My mom tried to kill me because of what I am. She knew because my dad showed her when he found out she was pregnant. But she didn't accept it like my grandmother did."           "What happened to your grandmother?" Kiara was the one who asked.           "My mom hit her with the handle of a revolver. She bled for too long because of me having my first transformation. I needed some new clothes and the scraps of my old ones needed to be picked up and hidden. Now my mom's in prison and my grandmother and father are dead."           "Who helped you with your transformation? We had our parents but, they were killed last year. Our parents moved away from the pack when we were five. They didn't like how things were being run. Someone from the pack found them while we were at school and killed them. I think it was because our parents supported our uncle Alexander Whitewolf's ideology." I felt my jaw dropped at what Kendra just said. "What? Is something the matter?"           "No. It's just that, my father is Alexander Whitewolf. I never got to meet him. And I never knew that he had siblings." I could smell Jackson before I heard or saw him.           "You need to take your inhaler now Katelyn." He looked me in my face and knew something was wrong. "What's the matter Katelyn?" He said it with a deep seriousness that compelled me to speak. Even the twins looked shocked.           "My dad is their uncle. They are my cousins and I have relatives." After he had finally got me to calm down enough to take my inhaler, we had a small discussion.           "So your dad, my mentor, had a group of people who felt like some things needed to change because rogue wolves were starting to sprout about the country. He wanted to find all the abandoned young wolves in the country to try to help him. His dream was to have a home for all the young wolves that lose their parent or parents that could help them with their first transformation." I wish I knew more about my father before now. I wish I could find a way to continue his dream.
