Chapter 7

Both Tracy and Penelope pushed Kendra and Kiara over and they fell into their trash on their trays and onto the floor. I stood up faster than I could comprehend. I marched right over to the two laughing girls and got up in their faces. They both stared right back at me. I looked over at my cousins from the corner of my eye and saw the humiliation plain on their faces. It pissed me off even more. So much that I punched Tracy in her nose and pulled on Penelope's hair and then punched her in her nose.           She had tried to run away after I had punched Tracy. So the reason I had pulled her hair was so she wouldn't get away. "That is what happens to petty ass bitches who pick on my cousins. Got that!" They were both gripping their bloody noses. "Got it girls?" They both nodded quickly. "Now get out of my sight and write an apology letter to them. One for each of them. And they better not say the same thing." They nodded and scurried out of the cafeteria. I huffed and helped the girls up.           Then the principal showed up. She looked at me and at the twins and sighed. "Please come with me you three. Jackson, before you follow, you need to go to class." I heard him groan and stomped off. Oh my. I guess I shouldn't have acted so rash. I bowed my head in shame. Kiara came and hugged me. We walked behind the principal all the way to her office. I felt like crying. If this is how I react to them being bullied like that, then I'll never have them put into my custody. Kiara hugged me tighter. She must have guessed my thoughts.           "This is bogus." Kendra whispered as we walked past a smirking Tracy and Penelope. I growled at them and their smirks fell off of their faces.           "Does anyone want to explain why two of my students have broken and bleeding noses." With my head still hanging down, I stepped up.           "It was me ma'am." I heard her intake of breath. She must have been shocked. I was too. Then she sighed.           "Tell me what happened. You never do anything that doesn't have a purpose."           "I had just returned to lunch from using the restroom. Kendra and Kiara had gotten up from our table outside to go dump their trays. I looked up at them when Tracy and Penelope walked up behind them and push them over like petty elementary school kids. I got mad. So I punched Tracy first and when Penelope tried to run away, I grabbed her by her hair and punched her. I didn't mean to do that." I could feel tears well up in my eyes.           "I understand that I told you and Jackson to be their mentors and to help them but I still don't understand why you would go to such extremes."           "It's because they are my cousins. I just found that out and I didn't want anything to happen to them. I know that the way that I handled the situation isn't the proper way and I am willing to take the punishment for this." She was silent for a moment.           "Well, since you came clean about it, I won't punish you to harshly. But you will be suspended for three days."           "Yes ma'am."           "And as for Tracy and Penelope, I will talk to them personally and will remind them of school bulling policies. I will fill out your paperwork for you to go home early. Please wait out front with Ms. Myers and tell her to send the girls in." I nodded at her and guided the twins out to the front room. Another thing that is not going to look good for me. I sighed. How was I going to make myself look like a good role model for them. Kiara started to rub my arm. I looked over at her.           "It will be okay. I'm sure that we will get to live with you." I smiled at her. After I received my papers, I went back to the Gamestop and picked up his gift plus the games. I brought them back to my place and hid them in my closet. I checked the time and saw that there was two hours until school let out. So I went to go get gas. It didn't take me long so I went back home to wait out the rest of the school day. I decided to call Ms. Mapp to let her know of my predicament.           "Hello? Katelyn? Why are you home so early? Are you okay?"           "I'm fine Ms. Mapp. I'm just calling to let you know that I won't be attending school for the next three days. Plus they sent me home early today."           "What happened at school dear? Do you need me to come over?"           "No. I just." I sighed. "I lost my temper and punched two girls in the face and broke their noses."           "WHAT!" I pulled the phone away from my ear a little because of how loud her shout was.           "I saw them push my cousins over and they fell and had food get all over their clothes. I didn't realize what I had done until after it was all over. I'm sorry." Ms. Mapp was silent for a moment. A thought occurred to me. What if she decided to not help me get the twins after this? I felt my breathing start to increase. It became shallow and deep. I felt myself get lightheaded. I thought for sure that I was going to pass out.           "Katelyn! Calm down sweet heart. I'm not upset with you." I tried to calm my breathing down. Then I heard her mutter something about getting my dosage upped.           "NO!" She was silent. "I mean, I'm fine ma'am. I don't need my medicine dosage upped."           "Either way. It is okay. I'm still going to help you. You're just a little more protective than most people are. But I need you to try to calm down before the courts decide that you need to take an anger management class. And that will be worse than  psychiatric help. Anyway, I scheduled for a meeting for us and the case manager to meet but I'll see if she is willing to meet tomorrow. If she is amendable, then we will also do the DNA test tomorrow as well." I sighed relieved.           "Okay. Thank you Ms. Mapp. I'll see you tomorrow then." I got off the phone with her and left to go pick up Jackson. School was going to be letting out in twenty minutes. As I pulled up behind this black Volvo, I noticed how it seemed familiar. I looked through the back window and saw that the driver was a female and was also glaring at me from the rear view mirror. It started to creep me out a bit. Then I saw the twins get into the vehicle. They didn't look so happy to be getting in though. Made me suspicious. But I had to put that to rest because Jackson had gotten in the car. I looked away from them to greet him. But when I looked back, they were speeding away. The look in the case managers eyes just didn't sit right with me.
