Groaning Lilith slowly stretched her arms and legs out and felt a soft blanket on top of her. Stiffening she remembered what had happened. She slowly opening her eyes to see she was in what looked to be a hospital room.
“You are safe,” a husky voice spoke out causing her to jump she snapped her head to the side to see a man sitting in a chair next to her bed.
Looking him up and down he wasn’t the man who had bit her, but Lilith could smell he was a wolf. “It’s okay,” he said raising his hands up as if to say he wouldn’t hurt her. She looked him in the eyes to see he was being genuine. Lilith could feel her body start to relax as she kept watching him.
“Where am I?” her voice croaked from lack of water.
“Water,” she then whispered pushing through her aching throat. He lifted a paper cup full of water to her lips.
She didn’t waste any time and gulped it all down gasping as she caught her breath.
“You are safe,” he said crushing the now empty cup and tossing it in the garbage can.
“That doesn’t answer my question,” she sighed. “How long have I been here?” She then asked trying to get some sort of information out of this stranger.
“Three days,” he said as he tilted his head to the side staring at her like he was trying to figure something out. Staring back at him she saw something black in the corner of her eye. Turning her head to see her black wig. Eyes widening, she looked back at him before trying to shoot out of the bed.
“Hey, wait you need to rest, you had some serious injuries you don’t want them to open back up and start bleeding,” he pleaded trying to pin her back down on the bed.
Lilith slid her hands down to his wrists and with a flick she had his hands off her shoulders, and she pushed him into the wall, using the momentum to stand up. Rushing to a mirror on the wall, she looked horrified when she saw her blonde hair and natural eyes.
“I need to get out of here,” she began to panic spinning around, looking for her clothes only to stumble back. Tensing up Lilith felt his chest pressed against her back as he helped her steady herself.
“I won’t hurt you,” he whispered as he helped her to the bed. “You are safe now,” trying to sooth her panic. Huffing she gave in letting him bring her back to the bed she slowly sat down allowing the room to still.
Before she could speak the door opened and a woman shuffled in wearing a white doctor's coat. Her hair was completely grey and pinned back in a bun at the nape of her neck. Glancing up Lilith could see lines on her face revealing her age. The woman's big brown eyes studied her momentarily before pushing her glassing back up the bridge of her nose.
Holding a clip board, she broke their stare to look down at the floor before looking over at the man. "Alpha," she said slightly bowing her head. Looking back over to Lilith a smile curved her lips as she moved closer to her.
"It is good to see you awake," she said walking over to Lilith looking her over while jotting down in her clip board. "You are lucky Alexander found you when he did," the woman smiled at her before putting the clipboard on the bed and reaching over to the bandage on Lilith's neck. "Just hold still my dear I just need to change your bandage." Panic filled Lilith as she tried to move from the woman's grasp, failing as the woman removed the bandage.
The woman's hand was now covering her mouth as she stared at Lilith's neck then over to the man she called 'alpha'.
"How is that possible, she is human?" She questioned. "I think we should take some blood and do some tests and see-" The woman began only to be cut off by Lilith.
"NO!" Lilith yelled backing herself up to the wall by her bed. Curling her knees up, she tried to get as far away from them as she possible could while she held her hand up in warning. "Let me go I need to leave," she pleaded looking from the woman to the man.
"You are safe now you don't have to go," Alex spoke holding his hands up as he approached her slowly. "Dr. Spears please leave us for a moment."
The doctor bowed her head before she exited out of the room closing the door behind her.
He looked back at her raising his hands again as he slowly sat down by her bed. "How about we start over," he suggested. "My name is Alexander Knight, and you are?" Alexander said with a friendly smile.
Watching him she didn't know why but his voice started to calm her down. Lowering her knees slightly she looked into his eyes feeling like she had seen them before. "Lilith," she finally whispered out as she watched a small smile spread across his face.
"Nice to meet you Lilith." Alex smiled and reached his hand out. She took it. He knew it would take time to figure out what had happened to her, but this was a start.
A week had passed since Lilith was brought to the Blue Moon pack. Alex had put her in a one of the cabins near the Alpha House. He had tried to make her stay in his home, but after several long arguments they finally agreed on her staying in the cabin.
He still couldn’t get her to open about herself or why she was running. All he knew about her is that her name was Lilith, and she had no family. Keeping a close eye on her he had picked up on her habits.
Every morning at around five a.m. she would get dressed in workout gear and go for a run. She even joined in some of the training the pack warriors did at six a.m. before heading back to her cabin to shower and get ready for the rest of the day.
Once she was ready, she would head to the cafeteria area to have breakfast. She never sat with anyone even though the twins Odessa and Dante bothered her daily to sit with them. She was polite to those around her but always keeping them at a distance as if her life depended on it. Once she ate, she would head back to her cabin avoiding contact with anyone until it was time to eat again.
Walking into the cafeteria for lunch Alexander rubbed his neck trying to release the tension of the morning meetings he had to sit through. Grabbing a cup of coffee and a wrap he turned and almost gasped in shock to see Odessa and Dante sitting with Lilith. He couldn’t believe his eyes. A small smile pulled at his lips seeing the small step she had taken, though he was sure the twins had probably just worn her down.
Walking toward them he couldn’t help but smile as their eyes met and he saw her give him a small smile back. “Lilith,” he said with a nod as he sat down across from her beside Dante.
“Alexander,” Lilith smiled back while simultaneously scolding herself in her head, she needed to keep her distance. She couldn’t afford any attachments to anyone because she knew she would be leaving and would never see them again.
“What no hello Odessa or Dante,” Odessa scoffed as she stuck her tongue playfully out at Alexander.
“Yes. Yes, hello you two,” Alexander rolled his eyes at the twins before looking back over to Lilith.
“Lilith, I wanted to know if you would like to go for a walk with me?” Sipping his coffee, he watched her as she looked down at her food her fingers moving her fries around as she bit her lower lip in thought.
“Umm, Sure,” she finally answered looking up at him through her lashes. He didn’t know what it was about her. It felt as if they were two magnets being drawn to each other by some invisible force.
The wind blew her hair behind her back as she lifted her head up instinctively closing her eyes taking in a deep breath. Holding it in for a few seconds she finally let it out with a smile. She could feel his eyes on her, watching her. They had been walking through the woods for several minutes in silence as he guided her to a little stream.
Tall trees stood around the stream with beautiful green, orange, and red leaves. The water was clear and refreshing on her bare feet. There were many big rocks going down the stream. She had sat down on one while dangling her bare feet into the water.
She loved nature, it calmed her. If she could stay here forever, she would, but she knew these moments are short lived because she was going to have to leave. She had almost forgotten Alexander was with her until she felt his gaze on her.
It was strange she didn’t know why, but his gaze sent shock waves through her body. She felt drawn to him. Looking in his direction he smiled at her as he walked over to sit beside her. “It is beautiful out here,” she said breaking the silence between them.
“I thought you would like it,” Alexander smiled again. Lilith could sense there was something he wanted to say but was holding back.
“Is that the only reason you brought me out here?” She questioned. He looked into her eyes before his fingers gently touched the top of her hand. Sparks shot up her arm making her gasp as she abruptly jumped of the rock and distanced herself from him.
“Well,” He began his face saddened by her reaction. “I think you should stay here,” Alexander looked at her only for a moment before looking in the distance “We... I can protect you,” he added standing up.
“I can’t.” Lilith could see the hurt in his eyes, but she knew this could never be. Before she could say anything else he strode over to her closing the gap between them. His fingers rested under her chin as he gently raised her head, so their eyes met once more.
“You can trust me Lilith,” he whispered to her, pleading for her to not go. Breaking their gaze, she turned away from him. Why was this so hard, she knew what she had to do. She was grateful for his help, but she had no reason to stay.
“Lilith I...” he paused as if struggling to find the right words to say. His hands slid up her arms gently making her close her eyes as the sparks again shot up her arms. Her body turned around and before her brain could register what was happening her arms wrapped around his neck pulling him down as her lips met his.
Shocked, Alexander stood stiff for only a moment before his hands wrapped around her waist lifting her up as he deepened their kiss. Electricity and sparks shot through them as their kissing became more primal. Their bodies moved on their own, her fingers began unbuttoning his shirt. His hands tightened around her waist as he moved pinning her again a tree pressing his chest against hers. Passion was overflowing she gasped out as he left her lips trailing kissing down her neck before a sudden pain shot through her body.
Lilith let out an involuntary scream. Alexander let go of her jumping back.
“Lilith?” He called her with concern. She landed in a crouching position on the ground as she let out another scream. Her legs buckled as she fell to her knees clutching her stomach.
“What’s happening?” She looked up at him tears spilling down her face. The pain began overtaking her body in waves. Just when she thought it couldn’t get any worse, she felt her bones begin breaking.
“Alex!” She screamed out as she felt her bones breaking and rearranging. Fur began to cover her body and claws began to grow. Her screams disappeared into howls, Lilith was no longer on the ground, but a big white wolf.
Alexander didn’t know what to do, he watched in horror as Lilith screamed out. Then he heard her bones cracking and he knew she was shifting. He didn’t know how this was happening she was human, but when the shift finally took hold, a new scent wafted in his nose.
Stumbling back, he had never smelt anything like it. It smelt sort of like a wolf, but also something else. The power that radiated off her as he stared in awe at the wolf. Lilith was no longer there, but a big white wolf. The wolf shook its fur as it let out a huff before turning its head and looking at him.
His heart stopped as their eyes met. The wolf had one blue eye and one green. It was her. She was breathtaking. He was no longer terrified, but somehow at ease as he stared at her. Reaching his hand out he brushed her fur, watching as her eyes closed and her head pressed against his hand. She opened her eyes looking at him one more time before she c****d her head back letting out a howl and then took off into the forest.
He watched as she disappeared deeper into the forest. Crossing his arms, his eyes looked at the ground scanning the shredded clothing just as something shined out at him. c*****g his head to the side, he knelt moving what was left of her clothing to find a broken silver chain with a moon pendant.
Standing back up he couldn't help but feel like he had seen this pendant before. Another howl broke his gaze as he pushed the broken necklace into his pocket. Looking in the direction he last saw her he removed his shirt, and then his pants and shoes letting the waves consume him as he shifted into his wolf. Shaking his fur out he let out a loud howl before taking off in the same direction.
