When did life get so complicated? He thought rushing from the house and deep into the woods. He needed to get away from it all. He needed to go for a run. Stripping his clothes off as he walked further into the bush, he could feel it coming. Waves of heat radiated through him as he hunched over. Bones began breaking and twisting. He grunted out in pain, he had been shifting all his life and yet, he still was not used to it.
In a blink of an eye the man was gone, and a big black wolf stood in his place. He was massive for a wolf, with beautiful forest green eyes. Shaking his head, he began to pant in excitement as he took off. It felt good to let the wolf loose and run free. Running deeper and deeper into the forest until he came across a small wooden cottage.
Walking up slowly, he lifted his snout up taking in a few deep breaths before sneaking around the cottage to see her floating in the water. Her eyes were closed as if she was lost in thought. It was his guilty pleasure, a secret only for him.
He had spotted her a week ago, something about her intrigued him. She smelled like an ordinary human but looked like a goddess that fell from the heavens. Each time he visited her she was in the same place. She was always lying still, floating in the water. Her eyes were shut as she breathed calmly, letting the water take control.
Every time she would eventually shoot up looking around as if she could sense his eyes on her, but she never found him. Eventually she would run into her cottage as if she was running from some invisible threat. He chalked it up to her being a human as they frightened so easily.
Laying down in the grass he rested his head on his paws, watching her floating serenely around as his mind drifted back to the first day, he had found her. He had just finished fighting with his father about the future of the pack and the fact that he still hadn't chosen a mate to become the Luna of his pack.
He rushed from the house in a rage needing to get away from it all. He loved his pack and loved being the alpha, but sometimes he just needed to escape into the forest and just run. Running in the woods in his wolf form not thinking of the pressures of being the alpha or what others expected of him, but instead just letting the wind blow through his fur.
He felt at peace. It is in these moments he almost felt free. Panting he walked up sniffing the air. That’s strange he thought as he slowed himself down.
Looking around he spotted a little wooden cottage. Slowly he walked to the little cottage and then around it to a lake. Confusion setting in as he had never once smelled humans this far into the forest before, let alone staying in the cottage. Looking around he saw her. Frozen in shock he watched her floating in the water.
She looked at peace with her eyes closed and arms stretched above her head. He had never seen a human or any creature so beautiful. She had a fair complexion with pink plump lips. She had long thick black lashes that flicked out hiding her eyes that remained closed. Her hair was fanned out above her floating the water as if it had a mind of its own almost looking white.
Lost in thought he watched her float around until suddenly, she shot up in surprise. Her eyes frantically looking around until they looked in his direction. She began swimming as fast as she could to the shore. He stayed there frozen, watching her. He didn’t know what to do and was surprised by how fast she was moving for a human.
She began rushing out of the water, he let out a gasp as she looked up and he finally saw her eyes. His breath hitched and heartbeat picked up as their eyes locked. He had never seen eyes so beautifully unique. Her left eye was a beautiful ocean blue, and her right a bright emerald green. He couldn’t stop staring into them, they were like two magnets pulling him to go to her.
“Stay back!” she yelled at him breaking him from the spell as he realized that he was slowly walking towards her.
When did he start moving? He didn’t even feel himself moving. Sitting down he tilted his head at her. She stared at him slightly crouched as if she was readying herself for a fight. Bowing his head, he slowly dropped to the ground before lowering his head on his paws to hopefully show her he really wasn’t going to harm her.
It seemed to work because she slowly stood up. Her eyes still locked onto him with fear and caution. He laid there waiting for her to move as he took the time to get a good look at her.
She was gorgeous. She had long wavy pale blond hair that was almost white. Her eyes so striking that only seemed to brighten with the contrast of her thick black lashes. High cheek bones that complemented the rest of her face. She had a cute nose he wanted to press his snout to. Her lips where distracting as they pouted out so plump with a tint of pink. He couldn’t help but look down her body. She wasn’t very tall she looked maybe 5’5, her body curvy yet very fit with a pair of long legs.
She looked like a goddess, like she didn’t belong on earth that she needed to have her own beautiful palace in the heavens. Lost in thought he completely missed her running to the cottage. Snapping his head up he saw her sprint inside slamming the door behind her.
He whined a little as he kept watching the cottage wanting her to come back out. Waiting a few more minutes he finally stood back up and decided to head back to the pack. Taking one last sniff of her scent he huffed then took off in the direction he came from.
Letting a little huff out as the memory of the first day slowly faded away bringing him back to the present. He learned to find a good hiding spot when he visited her, so she didn't see him like she had that first day. It looked like she was living alone, he couldn't smell anyone else in the area, just her.
Almost on cue she stiffened as her eyes shot open in a panic. Looking around she somehow locked eyes with him despite him being hidden. Watching her as she swam to the edge of the water and started walking towards him.
He lowered himself as low as he could trying to hide. He didn't know what to do as she stopped only a foot away from him. Her eyes cautiously looking him over as she crouched slightly lifting her head sniffing the air. Frozen in place he looked at her confused, what is she doing? He questioned tilting his head to the side. Slowly she moved closer reaching her hand out until her fingers gently brushed through his fur.
Her fingers gently brushing his fur he closed, his eyes enjoying the moment only to snap his eyes open to watch her running back to the cottage before rushing inside slamming the door behind her. Letting out a big huff he dropped his head back into his paws. Laying there for what felt like hours he finally stood up shaking his fur out as he began his walk back to the pack.
She was so different from most humans he had crossed paths with. He had never seen one with eyes like her. She almost seemed inhuman, but he had smelled her scent and the fact that she was human only piquing his interest even more. He wondered why she had gotten so scared of him but put it up to her uneasiness at seeing a wolf. Most humans would freak out if they saw a wolf especially one his size.
Stopping momentarily, he turned back taking in a deep sniff of her scent as an involuntary whine escaped his chest. Looking at the cottage he then noticed a curtain move and he knew she was there. His heart skipped a beat as something stirred in him. Letting out a friendly howl he then turned back around and took off heading to the pack.
His excitement was palpable as he ran through the forest. He could still feel her touch on his fur, she had never gotten that close to him before. Usually, she would look around before running back to her cottage, but this time she came to him.
Did she always know where he was when he watched her or was, he just not hiding very well this time? He thought as he slowed down at the edge of the woods. Slowing down to a walk he stopped at the edge looking ahead at the pack house. Back to the real world he grumbled to himself as he felt the change upon him.
Bones cracking and rearrange until he stood up back in his human form. Pulling on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt he couldn't help but feel a smirk twitch at the corner of his mouth as he gave her one more thought.
He would find a way to gain her trust. Grabbing his discarded shoes before heading back to the pack house with determination.
Walking into the pack house he headed straight into the living room flopping down on the couch with a sigh. Laying down on his back he looked up at the ceiling and found himself thinking of the human. Her striking eyes and the feel of her fingertips in his fur. Closing his eyes, he relished in the memory.
“I’m headed to town,” a man announced walking into the living room of the pack house. He stood at 6 feet, he had more of a slender build compared to Alexander. His blonde hair pulled into a bun he looked to only be 20 years old.
“Does anyone need anything?” He asked as he grabbed a pair of keys off the one end table.
“Watermelon!” Yelled a woman as she came barreling into the room with a big grin.
“Is that all?” He huffed while rolling his eyes. Crossing her arms as she glared at him, she leaned on the back of the couch. She was the same height with a slender build, her blond hair hung just at her shoulder.
“Why ask if you’re going to then complain,” she spat at him holding her death glare. Throwing his hands up in the air at her he glared back before sticking his tongue at her.
Before she could say or do anything he turned on his heels and sprinted out of the house. Sitting up from the couch he slouched his hands over the edge resting his head to the side “Give Dante a break,” he said smiling at the woman as she scoffed. “Aren’t twins supposed to get along,” he remarked with amusement as he poked her side making her jump.
“Not us,” she said with a smirk. She then turned climbing over the couch. Dante’s been training to take over as beta from his father who was ready to retire and begin traveling the world with his mate. Once ready Dante would become Alexanders second in command of the pack.
His twin Odessa was mated already to the gamma of the pack. They had been mated for only a few months and seem to be getting along. In a way pack life mirrored the human world. Alexander was the alpha making him the leader of the pack. Then there was his beta the second in command, and his gamma third in command.
Alexander had yet to find his mate, but he was in no rush, he knew he would find her when the time was right. He had thought he had found his mate when he had turned 18, but it turned out to be wrong when she ended up being mated to an alpha of a Canadian pack.
He knew alphas needed to find their mate to be considered a strong pack, but so far no one had challenged him. He was only twenty-six after all. The thought of his mate brought his thoughts back to the mystery woman at the lake. Why couldn't he stop thinking about her?
