Chapter Five
Ruth’s POV
“Let go of me!” I struggled with him until he set my arms free. He pushed me into a corner.
“Didn’t I warn you to keep your mouth shut?!” He queried in anger.
“Then you would have let me go peacefully!” I yelled at his face. “Why will you send me to somewhere this miserable and unfit for my child?” I gritted my teeth in anger.
“I’m only doing you a favor, rabbit! Killing you won’t shred the hatred I have for you.” He spilled bluntly and I laughed at him.
“Go ahead and kill me then.” I urged him with my hands open in the air. “Do it and stop procrastinating. Since everyone wants to get rid of me for nonsensical reasons, do it quickly.” I yelled in anger.
He gave me a long dirty look before dashing out.
That same evening, some servants came and respectfully took me to a new chamber, the slaves were shocked and afraid, they had no chance to apologize for their behavior.
“What’s going on?” I asked the head of the servants, Hannah.
“Lord Lox asked us to treat you nice from now on,” Hannah informed me politely and I laughed.
“What plan does he have this time? Is he trying to play a foul game?” I raised a brow.
He had no reason to act nice to me after all his ruthless actions. I also didn’t expect all these from him.
“Here is your meal, from now on, we will nurture you to eat proper food from morning to evening so as not to hurt the baby,” Hanny commented and I smirked.
“And why are you caring about my baby?” I asked, looking at her seriously.
“We are only following orders.” Hannah lowered her face to the ground.
“I want to meet with Lox!” I said vividly, approaching the door, and to my surprise, none of them touched me. I was given easy access, I was a little bit surprised but didn’t let it get over me as I tried to find his office.
I was always locked up in a room or directly taken to another section, I have never seen Lox’s chamber or meeting room.
On the way, I asked a few servants until I got to his meeting room.
I was about to enter his office when a statement stopped me.
“You need this baby!” I heard a voice, seriously urging him and he threw tantrums.
“I don’t want any baby, Maximo! I don’t even want it with that crazy b***h!” Lox cried out in anger.
I swallowed hard on nothing, maintaining my stand behind the door.
“I know it sounds crazy but don’t you think luck is on our side?” The so-called Maximo asked him but he didn’t respond. “If you lose this child, your throne is at stake.” Maximo reminded him. “Remember, your cruel stepbrother has returned and if you can’t protect what’s rightfully yours, he might use it against you.” Maximo sighed heavily.
“So, that’s the reason he started treating me nicely.” I couldn’t meet with him again as I returned to my chamber.
Everyone crossing paths with me always has their own benefits. It’s impossible to receive kind treatment for free, there is always a reason behind it.
Lox strolled into my chamber without knocking, he stood aside as some servants came in with large golden trays containing different expensive materials. Was it quality Satins? Expensive marbles? Golden purse? Raw gold? Expensive pieces of jewelry?
They grabbed my attention because I loved beautiful things but I tried not to show it as he approached me.
For the first time, Lox flashed me a smile that didn’t last but it was heart thrilling and beautiful. I never knew even a demon had a smile.
“Do you like them?” He asked me after a long silence and I rolled my eyes away from them.
“What is the meaning of this?” I asked, raising a disgusting brow.
“What does it look like?” He smirked. “All these are for you and the baby, are they not enough?” He curled his lips.
“When did you start caring about the ‘thing’ in my stomach?” I asked bluntly, locking my gaze with his dirty eyes. They don’t appease me anymore.
“Do I have a choice? I’m the father after all.” He gasped.
“Do you think I’m stupid? What if I decide to get rid of the child?” I raised a scornful brow. “I don’t want you to act like the caring type because it’s not necessary. My child and I can cope without a father.” I informed him curtly.
He tried to reach for my hand but I stepped backward. He waved at the servants and they bowed, placing the trays before leaving my chamber.
“You don’t have to act stubborn, rabbit. I can still hurt you, you know that right?” He succeeded in grazing my cheek.
“I don’t need any of this and I’m not afraid of dying!” I spat at his face. “All these things,” leaving his side, I used my hands and pushed them away. “I don’t want any of them. Just let me go or leave me alone, I don’t want to see you!” I cried out in annoyance.
The fact that I got pregnant for him, was certain but I wasn’t comfortable with seeing him. He was a beast and not worth being called a father. Whatever action he professes only proves that there are benefits besides it.
“Stop acting like a crazy woman, Ruth!” He shunned me, grabbing my arm but I pushed him away.
“If this child isn't also linked to your throne, would you have cared about it one bit?” I shot him a dirty look and he fell silent. He looked surprised and anxious, having the eyes of tell-me, I-want-to-know-who-spilled-the-bean.
“Answer me, will you have considered letting us live?” I urged him angrily.
He wasn’t able to answer me as his right-hand man rushed into my room, looking impatient.
“What is it?” With the annoyance from our conversation, he fired at him.
“It’s Alpha Jason. He is intruding into our pack to get rid of his daughter.” His right-hand man announced bluntly.
“What?” I almost gasped as he questioned in unison.
