Yellow Tree

P.O.V. Aleena 8 Years Old They are so mean to me.“Go away you smelly.” Today as I was coming out of class, they started throwing rocks at me. “No one wants you here.” I started running to the place I feel most at peace, the far away for all and everyone, the meadow that I pick flowers for mommy. I got there and just collapsed near a tree crying, crying out all the pain. I heard a noise and got my head up, while I sniffed I caught the scent of Laburnum Tree and Grapefruit. I opened my eyes full of tears to see a big black wolf that was getting his head down to sniff me. I did not think, I just needed someone to hug and to hug me back, I got my small arms around his face, and continued crying until the feeling of his fur started calming me down, and I fell asleep. I woke up and was rubbing my eyes.  I see the wolf laying down in front of me, his head on my lap, I think I fell asleep still holding on to him. I never felt his scent before so I started talking to him, hoping he would understand me. After a while of talking I found out, he is friendly, likes to cuddle, is a good listener, I was babbling my stuff to him, and that he does not have a mate. I made a promise to him, to help him find his mate, he believed in me, that I will come back to the meadow and tell him once I find his mate. He was so happy, that I got a big lick before he ran away. I got back home, with some flowers to have an excuse about not coming straight home after class.  “ Where have you been, little girl?” Fathers big voice came to my ears the minute I was at the door.  “Picking up some flowers.” I showed the flowers to him.   “You need to let someone know where you are, even your brother could not tell me. Don’t ever go away to the forest, without telling someone.” He looks down at me.  “Yes, father.” “What is that wonderful smell?” Mother coming up to the door. “Are those Violets, I love them.” I gave a big smile putting my hands with the flowers in front of her.  “They are for you, Mommy.”  She just jumped, picked the flowers, “Got to put this in water.” Giving me a kiss o the head. “You got lucky that your mother is in a good mood. Go to your room.” I gave him my sad eyes. “Yes, father.”  And I ran up to my room, only to be stopped by my brother. “Sis where were you? I could not reach you in our link.” He was worried, checking if I had gotten hurt.  “I went to the meadow.” I smiled bravely at him.  “I heard what they did to you. From now on, I am waiting for you at the door, no one will ever pick with you.” Puffing his chest. I just giggle, I have the best twin brother ever. “Still you were out for a long time.” He changed again to why I was out.  “I meet a wolf.” Starting to walk next to him to my room.  “Rogue?” Looking with wide eyes.  “A lost wolf, I just helped him go the right direction. “  Alan, my twin brother could always tell when I was hiding something. “And?” He put his arm on my shoulder when we arrived at the door of my bedroom.   “And what?” I looked innocent while walking inside.   “Aleena.” He came after me inside the room and closed the door always looking at me. I sigh.  “I promised him I would find his Destined Mate.” I curled a little for waiting for my brother to start yelling at me.  “You what? Do you want Alpha Oscar to find out and send you to the cells? You can’t go around telling people.” I sat down on my bed.  “But…” He continued, “not without me. I am your brother, I will protect you.” putting his hand on his chest like he was doing a vow.  “You don’t believe in me either.” I love my brother, still, I know he does not believe in me.  “I don’t need to believe, I will always be by your side, you make more sense to me than what the pack does. I don’t understand why.” I smile while he sits on the bed with me.  “Then, will you help me find his True Mate?”  He gave a big smile. “Yes, but how? We are too young to leave the pack if the mate is not of this pack?” “I forgot about that. It just felt right to do so.”  --- Two years after --- “Dad, me, and Aleena are going training.” We came down the stairs.   “Are you going to the forest again?”  Putting the backpacks near the door.  “Best place to train, jumping trees, climbing rocks.”  Father came next to us making a severe look at Alan.  “You do understand you are bringing your sister along.” I went near him, gave him a hug looking up at him. “Dad, I need to train also, I am a gamma daughter I cannot be weak.” Kissing me on the forehead. “You are still my little girl. I will alert the guards and patrol. Since you can already mind link the pack, you know what to do when you enter the forest.”  “Open Mind Link our destination.” We both said at the same time, not that we ever go to the place we mind link.  “Good, and do not come back too late.” Getting out the door, all geared up, we sprint passing everyone in the pack until we reach the start of the forest. We stop there, this time we decide to mind link the destination on mark 5, but we decided to go near mark 3, which has a climbing rock, that on the top let us see almost all of the forest. We need to make a plan for the next few days and that place is the best. We started walking and running, it takes us about 30 minutes to get to the rock, and an hour to climb with the proper equipment, and being careful. Once we were on the top, we sat down, doing plans. “We already cover the West part of the forest, so where to next?” I look at the map in my hands. “We already know the places that are easier for rogues to wander about.” Alan points at the map. “That was an encounter to never forget.” I sigh. “I am afraid that once we are on one side, the mate may appear in another place.”  He looks at me seeing me down.  “I have faith in you, Sis. I think the Moon Goddess will put us on the right path.” Suddenly we hear howls. “The patrol.” Alan got up. “Rogues, they seem to be coming our way.”  I look at the map. “They must go around to get to the border from here.”  Alan starts picking up the backpack. “Ok let’s get down, we better go back home.” We started our descent, only to meet the patrol surrounding the rogues on the rock.  ‘You guys are supposed to be on the other side.’ We look at each other and then at the wolf in front of us.   “We got lost and ended up here.” A growl came from him. I look at the rogues, there are two in wolf form, protecting a woman and a small girl, that are embracing one another. I scent the air, Chenille, and Grapefruit.  ‘Sh*t’ Alan looking at them. ‘What, sis?’  Never taking my eyes off them to access the situation. ‘The woman is the mate.’ I could see him swallowing.   ‘We need to distract the guards.’ I grab his arm. ‘But if they escape, I may not be able to find them after.’  I could see him thinking. ‘We need to find a way to deliver them a message.’  I go to his backpack. ‘Ok, I will write on paper. You distract the guards.’ “Leon, don’t you think the Alpha might want them for interrogation?” The guard shifts, knowing they can’t run away.  “We have explicit orders. Any rogue should be killed.” I continued writing in Alan’s back.   “But they might know something about the rogues that were on the attack the other time.” Leon started thinking. I went behind the trees, to the other side of the guards, giving my brother a hint on the mind link. “Better to ask the others, if it is a good idea.” While Leon’s mind links the guards, I throw the paper on the girl’s feet.  I am good at dodgeball, she senses something and picks the paper, unravels reading it and passes it to the woman, that after reading looks everywhere, until she meets my eyes, I smile at her. ‘Showtime brother.’ “Look, they are innocent. I said coming out the trees that went until the tree on the left side of the rogues.”  Leon looks my way freaking out. “Aleena, get back here, they are dangerous.”  I got closer to them facing Leon but with my back to them, making me an easy target.  “How can they be?” I throw my arms up. Suddenly one of the wolves pounced on me, not hurting, but made me fall, I let out a scream, to be more realistic. The other one shifts.  “If you want the girl alive, let us go.”   Leon was furious. “You are harming a gamma, we can’t let you go.” Shifting to his wolf. Allan started running to me.  “No, let my sister go please, we will let you go, right Leon.” A Growl was the only response.  “Do you really want to tell my father that his precious daughter was harmed?” Another growl and he sat down, making the other from the pack sit down. “Please let my sister go.” “We will go first, once we are out of your way, my brother will let the girl go, if you come after us, we will kill her.” Leon got back up and growled at them.  “We will wait, but please let her go.” Alan pleaded.  One man, the woman, and the girl started running to the same place I was before. After a few minutes, the wolf that was on top of me jumped, and sprint to the same place. The patrol started going after him. “Let him go.” I used my gamma voice. They stopped. Leon shifted and got some shorts. “Are you crazy they are rogues! They will come back with more.”  I looked at him.  “We made a deal with them, and last time I checked, we still are truthful to the deal we do.” He got mad at me.  “I will report this to your father.” Turning around.   “Don’t forget to input the part where she was under a rogue, and we were the ones that arranged a way to get out, without anyone getting hurt,” Alan said to him in a calm voice.  He stopped and looked at us. “We need to report the rogues.” I grabbed the backpack that I left behind Alan. “Then report, when you got to the rock, they got away.” He looked at me like are you telling me that.  “Aleena you may be the gamma daughter but if your father uses his command, I cannot lie.” I continued, “Is not a lie. You did come to the rock, and you did lose the rogues. A report only needs the basics. My father thinks we are on the other side on mark 5, so you do not need to include us on the report.” He looked at both of us.  “If I do that, you too will never give us wrong locations ever again.”  I looked at Alan and we both said. “We promise.”  He got his hand to his hair.  “Let’s go back to do the report.”  They went to the woods, shifted, and went back to report. After we were sure that no one was with us.  “What did you write?”  We started walking.  “That we will give them time to run, a map to a place to rest, outside the patrols, that you and I will meet with them in two days from now there.”  He looks ahead while talking to me.  “Do you think they will be there?”  I also look ahead. “I am hoping for it and that the Moon Goddess helps also.” When we got back home, the patrol was just leaving our house, we crossed eyes giving them a good workday, it was still morning. My father was at the door and gave us both some suspicious looks.  “Everything went fine with your run.” Eyeing me up and down. I had dirt all over my back and front.  “Aleena fell on running up the hill,” Alan said while taking my backpack and placing it on the floor.  “That rock came out of nowhere.” I started saying to cover my brother's statement. “That was hardly a rock.” he eyed me teasing so that the act could go on.  “It was a rock I tell you.” I was facing him, defending me like it was real.  “No encounters with rogues?” We stop the bickering, we are good at that, thanks to the twin mind link.  “Rogues?” We look at my father making a face like, what you are talking about?  “It«s that why the patrol was in the house?”  He just sighs. “Go clean up for breakfast you two.” We just got inside and went to our rooms to get changed. We know dad never shares work with us, so he just deflects every time we ask something. After two days… I and my brother went for training and got to the place I wrote on the map. “Sis, no one is here.”  I sigh, “I was so hoping they would be.”  We heard a growl and one of the wolves from before came out of the forest. My brother stepped in front of me.  “We mean no harm.”  I got out from behind him. “I need to talk to the woman that was with you, please can you tell us where she is.” Another growl and he was coming to us. “Stop Lucas.” We heard a voice, the woman from the other day, came from his right side. “They helped us. I will listen to them.” She came up to me. “Thank you so much for helping our family.”  “Family?” We both said. “Are you mated then?” She looks at me sadly. “My mate died protecting us, my brother mate also died.” Sadness was all around them.  “I am so sorry. Who are they?” I pointed at the wolf.   “This stubborn wolf is my younger brother, that little girl you saw is my niece, the other wolf that talked last time is my older brother.” I sigh with relief. “You are all a family running?” I asked her.   “Yes, we can’t go back to the pack we left.” Looking at my brother and back at her. “Why not?” The sadness around her was unbearable. “Because they said that since they don’t have anyone for us to mate, we need to leave the pack before going crazy.”  My mouth was hanging open. “They expelled you all?”  She got closer to her brother that was still in wolf form but sitting down. “Yes. We came from a small pack, they did not have any allies with other packs, the ones without mates, must leave the pack to wander as rogues.” She patted his head.  “That is harsh. And the Alpha Council knows about this?” Alan's voice was also a little broken, I looked at him.  “No, they just say that the ones that left were their own will. Since we are already rogues running, the Alpha Council does not have a way to find us to get the truth.”  I took a step closer to her hearing a low growl from her brother. “I may have a way to help you.” She gave a small smile, looking at two kids in front of her.  “I need you to have an open mind to what I am about to say to you.” She looked at me funny but nodded yes. After a moment of silence with me fidgeting, playing with my hands, my brother put his hand on my shoulder giving me strength. “I know who your Destined Mate is?” Her jaw just dropped, but no word came from it. “That is a myth?” Another voice came from behind her. I look to see the other man and the little girl coming out of the forest.  “I understand that is hard to believe, but I can sense True Mates, and I already encounter hers.” I was now talking to him approaching us.  “We may be rogues, but we are not fools or stupid.”  I did not back down. “Is true and I can prove it. I just need you to trust me.”  He got on her side towering over me. “Trust you, just because you help us once we are not going to trust you.”  She turned to him “Bruce, they saved us.” I look back at her in the eyes. “If you want to meet your everything, the one that will make your world complete, the one that Moon Goddess made especially for you, that will bring light to your life. Meet me Saturday at the East Boundary, there is a meadow with all kinds of flowers there, a small still growing tree with yellow flowers that cascade. I promise you will find your other half.”  Her eyes were watering. But her brother picked up her arm.  “Ellena we have to go, they might have the patrol coming our way right now.” Taking her away from us. The younger brother was still in wolf form, but this time he was not menacing, his eyes were roaming from his brother to us.  “Let’s go Lucas.” He gave us one last look and went with them.  After they were all gone. “Sis, what do we do?”  I look at the sky.  “We do nothing. I will go to the meadow and put the mark. And next Saturday, I will come and talk to him.”  Alan picked my hand. “I will go with you.”  I look back down at him, tears running on my face,  “No Allan, I made the promise I will go.” We both came back home, my heart was sad, one couple I could not reunite. How many others will not be able to help? The next day, I went to the meadow, got next to the yellow tree, and tied a ribbon on it, and cried. ---Saturday--- I got up with fear invading my heart, what if she did not believe in me, almost no one, even my one pack believes in me, why should a stranger believe in me? I still had a little hope. I asked my brother to cover for me and went early in the morning to the meadow and waited for them.  ‘Will they come? Did any of them believe in me?’ My doubts continue growing by the passing hours with no sign of them. The morning passed, no wolf, no Ellena. Maybe they are right, maybe I am being foolish for trying to make others believe, maybe I just need to be quiet. Then I remember that there exists another promise that I made a long time ago to another person that still believes in me. ‘Maybe I took too long, he already mated to someone else?’ The afternoon started with me sitting in the same tree he found me once, eating some sandwiches made by my brother.  The clock continued ticking, and no one. I remember that I did not check the tree to see if he received the message. The fact that the Laburnum Tree is there, is a way for me to trust that he believed me. Every time that I came here, I would go to it and talk to the tree, strange, but I would always say for him to wait until I would find his other half. I was getting next to the tree when I saw the black wolf coming from the other side in its direction. I couldn’t stop, tears started coming down my face when he came up to me, like the first time, I hugged him and cried. This time I cried with happiness, and after a few seconds, I cleaned my snot in my sleeve. “You came!” He just put his big head on top of mine and sniffed. I took a few steps back so that I could see his eyes. “I know you may not want me to know who you are, but I need to talk to you. Since we don’t have a mind link, can you change?” We looked at me confused, then he must have noticed my sad eyes, he gave me a nod. “I will go to the meadow, meet you there.” I gave him a small smile turning back to the meadow, sitting right in the middle of it.  After a minute or two, a tall man with long black hair, probably around my father's age, came from the forest sitting beside me.  “Hello”  I took a deep breath. “Hello, I don’t need to know your name, so just hear me please.” He nodded. “I found her.” I could see that he tenses up at my words. “She is a rogue.” His low voice came to my ears. I had my head down while playing with a flower in front of me.  “Is she dead?”  I look up to him.  “No. But….” He stared at me expecting, hoping. “I don’t think she believed me when I told her. She was running from the pack that expelled her and her family.”  His eyes widened, the same way mine did when she talked about it. “Family?” Some wolves are very particular about their mates.  “Yes, when I found her, she was with her two brothers and her little niece. I told her about you, that I could help her come to you, but I think they have suffered a lot, so they did not believe in me.”  He patted my head and his eyes were full of emotions. “Thank you.”  Tears started falling again. “Why? I could not bring her to you.”  He smiled at me. “Now I already know she is out there. I can find her.”  I wiped my tears. “How will you find her without me?”  He looked to the sky. “The old way, sniffing her.” “You don’t know her smell.”  He got up, looked at me. “I will never stop looking for her.” We heard some shuffling on the trees, the smell of rogues came our way. He shifted on the spot and came in front of me, I grabbed his fur.  “Wait.”  There she was, crying. “S-Sorry, but I-I had to be sure.” I sensed the wolf tense, sniffing the air, then he shifted to human. I looked away, I think he ran up to her. “MATE” Growls  “MATE” Growls. They both recognize the mate bond. I was happy, but I was unsure if I could look their way because he might be naked. I could only hear what they were talking about.  “Do you accept me? I am a rogue.”  “Not anymore, my love, my life, my tree. I will give you everything, a house, a pack, a home.” She started crying again. “You can look now.” Lookin I see he had some shorts on and was embracing a very trembling Ellena that was crying with happiness. We saw two men coming from the forest. “Release our sister.” He just looked at them and started snarling. I saw they both give one step behind, he mostly has some power, as I have.  “MINE” He screams. They both look at one another, then Ellena looks up to them. “He is my Mate.” they try to take a step forward only to have a warning snarl.  “That is not possible Ellena your mate died.”  She gave them a big smile. “He is my destined mate.” They both look at me. “Can’t you both sense and feel the difference in them?” I tell them. A small girl came running, passing between both, jumping to Ellena’s arms.  “Aunty, is he the Moon Goddess destined for you?” Her smile was the most radiant of them all.  “Yes, Rebecca.”  Looking at the man beside her aunt. “Mister, are you going to take my aunty away from me?” I could see he was thinking, then lifting his head, looking at the two brothers. “You are all welcome in my pack as the family of my Luna.” Their jaws and my drops. He is an Alpha?  He looks at me. “Thank you for finding my reason to live, you saved a lot more than what you think.”
